Fhemmmy: Chief, what you saying is not what we are saying, forget about when the airbag was made to be standard feature, the point remains that, this is 2012 and Nigeria and her govt is still allowing people to sell brand new rides with no airbags or just 2 airbags, that is rubbish and besides, there are more that are missing in those "Brand New" rides sold in Nigeria . .. they are nothing but moving coffins on wheels[/b]@Fhemmmy, you are a Nigerian right? If in the affirmative, let's educate our people about it, starting from Nairaland. Let's discourage people selling/buying cars with just two or no airbag. I appreciate your usual indepth analysis of auto issue. |
Fhemmmy: That is not true at all, but this makes me to think of an analogy, A man that has never seen more than a one bedroom house, given millions of $$ told to build a house will only build a one bedroom house, cos that is all he ever knew, such is the case of people that have bought a brand new ride in Nigeria, all they ever known is 2 airbags at the front, but please note that a normal ride made by reliable people for humans comes with minimum 6 airbags, and if you ever seen an accident of a roll over vehicle, you will change your mind that side curtain airbags are just as important as the 2 that you thought are the most important, head injury is one of the most dangerous injury . . . .I said Side/Curtain Airbags are sometimes optional in American spec vehicles. Our 01 Sienna has 4 airbags whereas most (of course they are all US spec) I see around have only two, so also is the popular 2003-2008 Corolla. It became standard from 2009 model. http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/corolla/2008/ Nigerian brand new cars are improving too. Kia Rios now come with airbags unlike before when they had none. 2012 Hyundai Elantra is fixed with several airbags. But I must tell you, most Nigerians resident in Nigeria don't even appreciate airbags. They do no bother about how many airbags a car has before buying. You can imagine a corolla of 4 million Naira having only two and all the corporate people see it as the best vehicles around |
I think it's the two front airbags that are more important even in American vehicles. Others are most times optional except may be in the latest cars. I've not come across any 2007 Toyota Corolla American spec with more that two airbags. This is not in any way to water down the importance of sefety in cars. When I was shopping for a car I insisted on having side airbags in addition to the front ones and my highly educated friends were like: what kind of a christian are you putting his faith in airbags. Let me ask: to what extent can airbags save in the event of crash. I saw this Dagrin's story online. Please sorry if the pictures offend- it's for us to learn and safe lives.

Most of the ABS issues are as a result of unprofessional attitudes of our mechanics. It's possible they've tampered with the ABS cable while changing the wheal. Have it scanned and resolve the problem asap as it can cause more problems. I once experienced this. I spent so much at Automaize for fix because the "road side mechanics" cut off the cable for them to have space to work. This affected the whole ABS system and the 4 speed sensors. Speedometer stopped working and gear was not selecting properly again. That's why I'm always loathsome to ask those guys to change common break pads on my car. A quick one: Check the the ABS cable and ensure the sensor is properly fixed. All the best. |
ACM10: May leprosy amputate your already leprous fingers for daring to suggest that we should condemn one of our greats. Have you condemned Awo for for saying that "all is fair" in a war? That is a fallacy- argumentum ab dominem. Do not turn yourself to Achepe(the one who curses). Pray instead, that God will be merciful to your only great and heal him. |
For Prof Achebe, things have not only fallen apart but they are no longer at ease after the civil war. The years before the civil was his best as it was the period the classic novel was written. Hatred might have robbed him of honors of Nobel prize, more classic novels. This has culminated in his recent Memoir of the civil war which is brewing more hatred among the people who are supposed to unite and fight the common enemy. This particular work is unclassic and should be condemned by all Igbos who are interested in the advancement of the most industrious tribe in Nigeria. |
Awolowo was the foremost economist Nigeria has produced. Just one or two poliicies changed everything about the war. Indeed he was "the best president Nigeria never had" according to Ojukwu. Igbos please forgive and forget if truely the man hurt you. Let God judge and fight for you if indeed you are the African jews. Why the hatred of the whole tribe when the likes of Wole Soyinka fought the FG because of the war. |
Nigeria is finished with the likes of Achebe as intellectual icon. It is obvious from this revelation that he does not believe in Nigeria's oneness and that's why he has been rejecting National honors not because of bad governance. I counsel him to repent so that he will not start his own hell fire from earth. Igbos are blaming Yorubas and vice Versa, non seems to blame Hausa, that's why they have been having upper. Nairaland is a forum where igbos are always seeking opportunity to attack the Yorubas and an Igbo man is a commissioner in Lagos, they are all over Lagos prospering without hindrance- sure that can never happen in other regions. I think we are supposed to appreciate each others instead of this campaign of calumny led by now intellectually challenged Achebe. |
1. Fashola ( he's too loaded and rounded. SAN!) 2. Fayemi (he's erudite. Prof!) 3. Oshiomole (he's loaded and rounded. A former labour leader!) 4. Okorocha, Amaechi, Aliu (they are okay!) |

Quoting IBB: "Having invested so much in the unity and stability of the country, to the extent of fighting in the civil war to keep the country together" "..and had stated without equivocation that dialogue would serve as a better tool than this militant approach which is not yielding appropriate result." Mr smart IBB, I put it to you: Why did you fight in the civil war and not have embraced dialogue as you are now suggesting to GEJ, especially when all entreaties for peace have been rejected. |
What I do not understand is why people are fighting over another man's language. There is nothing noble in being able to speak good grammar when it's not your local language. Learn from the Chines, Koreans and even Indians. One Nigerian lady who studied language was interviewed. She did well all through. The last question was asked: "Your performance was excellent! Can we conclude now that you are a good english teacher?" She responded: "Yes". And, she failed the interview with that last question. Reason: An english teacher is a british teacher or a briton who teaches English langauge. She should have answered: "I am a good english language teacher. So, being able to speak good grammar is not a measure of intelligence. In fact most of the good guys I know, especially in the telecomms would equally fail the test. And these guys are gurus, better than most of the techy guys from Indians and Europe. It is high time we studied in our local language, viz: "pigeon", etc. Lets' stop demeaning ourselves by refering to our language as vernacular. |
Wa o! You guys are too much. Please educate me on how I can Prepare and write the exam. Your quick help is highly appreciated. |
There is nothing tribal, asserting that Igbo guys do anything to make money. That has its positive side and negative side. The same way you refer to some products made in China as "Chinko" and some others also made in same China as "original". And hardly would you find any other tribe trading in auto part- so it must be igbos. They take credit for making auto parts affordable and available. May be he could have been more politically correct by saying: Igbo guys are very industrious and can go extra miles in making money by selling cheap and/ or substandard products to those who need them like seal777. Thank God you are safe. |
@Nimshi , what is shameless about universities participating in quiz completions. Or you are waiting to hear that we used to go for quiz competitions, then in Ife across the Globe? Let's encourage these younger ones who are not intellectual lazy like many of our political office holders. |
Great Ife! |

Mrs Ngozi Okonjo Iwenla (big book) is eminently qualified, my reason as follows in their order of importance to present day Nigeria: She is not corrupt (at least for now) She is not afraid to step on toes. She believes in the Nigerian project. One of the very few technocrats in the west that stick to African fabrics. She is the round peg in the round hole (finance work experience, sound education). Madam has good looks. Good luck to her! Education is not too critical here. For you information Dimeji BankOle equally (if not "betterlly" attended the best schools in the world: Reading, Oxford, Harvard.Aganga too has the experience. UK MD of Goldman Sachs is not a joke! He is not however as credible and bold as madam Iwenla. Sanusi Lamido with Economics degrees from ABU and another in Sharia from Sudan is a better performer compared to our so called world class professor(s). I pray the Lord help her so that she does not lose (my) respect like the once adorable Dora. Personal message to Anti Ngozi: If you see Dr Reuben Abati, my (once) icon, say me well to him. Tell him I am praying for him and that I am not too angry he did not raise the subject of his political ambition when we met at the Airport two sundays back. Regards, Tunde Olaniyan |
