My GF thinks i'm too cheap and unsophisticated for buying my cheap banger, and i have been caressing the idea of buying the newer cheaper model...I somehow realised some websites offer to sell your car off, as fast as in 24hrs!...Are they any good? Almighty Allah has favoured with a good job relating to my profession (Quantity surveying) at the least time I expected it.

Personally I think the system favours women with children as the Home Office will never separate a child from its mother. A lot of people of different nationalities have had to remain in the UK illegally for various reasons. It is not advisable to do so but in your condition I do understand as you have young children. However, you will not be able work, open a bank account or rent a house and so many other things.

I do know of someone who came to the UK with a visiting visa, had children here and was able to legalise his stay when his kids turned 6 and 4. The application was initially refused by the Home Office but he won the appeal as the Home Office lawyer didn't turn up. Usually kids born in the UK qualify for citizenship after 10 years regardless of their parents status.

Personally, i think you shouldn't spend over half or a third of your savings on a car...What if you want to oppress, just buy a 2nd in a different colour!
Otherwise, I just strap the money i have on my Golf so everybody knows i could buy something more expensive

well, for example, Lexus IS200s have great bargains and they're very reliable and won't break the bank. However, if you have money to spend...of course, go all out. However, bear in mind you will still spend a lot on your insurance. So much to do when rebooting your life, and having to start again.... so money has many roles to play

I believe we are not entitled to govt funds. However, you have to foot 5% anyway and Halifax accepts 5% from tier 2s if you have good credit history

It's simple. You save a deposit, and you apply for the mortgage. If you are on a visa, the mortgage rate you will get might be higher than the norm. However, getting a good mortgage rate (i.e <3%) ultimately depends on your credit rating. The size of the deposit you need depends on the size of the mortgage you require, and this ultimately depends on what part of the UK you live. The cost of a small squashed box flat in London will buy a large 3 bedroom house with a garden up North.

People choose who to look up to, and i think the media portrays this wrongly, but there are many black role models in their own way. I like to collate Nigerians doing well in Hollywood and i am always surprised.

Many africans are doing well in their own little way, Africa was just subjugated and they didn't realize that during colonialism, so were Asians. However, there is enlightenment on the horizon. This thread has really changed a lot. Its good to dream but we must learn to walk before we can run.

In this western countries everything looks very flash, its so easy to get carried away coming from a country like Nigeria. We must be very cautious when making certain decisions. e.g Like the kind of friends we keep, we need people who will inspire us and who are realist not those who add no value to life and give you false hope or no hope at all.

It is very easy to get into debt because credit is thrown at you from left, right and centre and it takes one with a lot of self control to resist it. These sales people are professionals in their field. I had a friend who went to the shop with money in his pocket to buy a 42" screen outright and came back with a 55" on a finance with insurance and the lot. His excuse was the sales person was so nice and he felt bad saying no after all the talk.

Questions you have got to ask yourself not only for the newbies but for the oldies too. If the unfortunate happens and you loose your job or you fall ill? Will you be able to pay your bills for about six months without falling into Financial difficulty.

If a black man and an white man are given £10,000 each. The black will most likely go for a nice set of wheels (Black Mans Wheels) and designer gear, while the English man will get a mortgage and take his family on a nice holiday. We see it all the time with the American rap stars and after a while they go bankrupt and they don't understand why.

We hear stories of white people thinking black people have got small brains , why do you think that is? The black man does not know how to invest in their communities. look around the world in America and Britain where they are large concentrations of blacks the characteristic features are poverty and crime. Just look at our politicians they don't have the foresight to invest in their countries, instead they run abroad for treatment and send their kids to foreign schools etc African is trouble because of lack of investment by our rulers.

So now lets take a look at our individual selves. I know its not easy , but when we can afford it you should be able to have emergency fund cause no one knows what's around the corner. Even if you have insurance, it doesn't really start paying until about three months and some even six months.

The fact that you can afford something, if it doesn't add value to your life and you have to be living from one paycheck to another to pay it, then its a false economy.

We should learn from the Asians and the Jews, they enrich their communities not just themselves.

From my deductions so far, getting a mortgage is always the sure fire. It never goes out of style. Albeit, getting a car also is important. As long as you can afford to maintain it, then you should be in the clear.

If you have the bar , by all means, get you a car your spirit will be happy driving but I don't think people actually get bothered with what kinda car you're driving here (I may be wrong).

We are moving down south in a few months!! So scared and excited! I love this place but we have to go with the cheese.I hear things are more expensive especially in the KSS area but we will be fine..fingers crossed.

Still haven't bought the house because of this move.The houses i'm seeing around the area are from 5-6 huns for 4 bed I pity myself.

Have learnt from old mistakes,have very good credit history,using the credit card for payments and always pay back etc etc.

Since it's a new area we've never been to,we plan to rent first and then buy in 3-6 months.

how do you get by longterm leases? 12 months

I have known people buy cars for £650 and drive it for over 4 years......

Nothing mechanically went wrong with the vehicles, apart from regular maintenance.

And they end up selling the car for over £300.......... Talk about motoring on the cheap.......

And yes it only takes you from point A - B...........

Sometimes I feel like showing myself,sell my car and buy something new, you know...parking assist, lane maintaining and all the papas in these new cars,but my dream car is probably the new E class with the double iPad speedometer

it's like driving, because the car can do 150 miles/HR, doesn't mean we go all out. The extra money can be used to invest in a retirement plan like buying houses and when you remortgage your house, who knows buy a chacha 2020 range rover...all cash and they even deliver to your house on a flatbed . Now, that's balling!

Autotrader is cool too.... If you're going for an old car, some cars have better reliability... Eg Toyota or lexus vs buying a cheap Mercedes which can be a money pit

There’s nothing wrong in buying a brand new car as your first car as long as you can afford it. Do not let Lexusgs430 and co rain on your parade.

My MRS went straight to the dealership to pick up a brand new car barely days after she received her driving license in the post. The car was worth around £22,000 at the time. It was a finance deal and after 3years, she returned the car back to them and went to another dealership to pick another brand new car.

The insurance wasn’t bad as a first time driver. It was around £120 or so if I remember correctly. She didn’t pick a provider from a comparison site. She asked the dealership to recommend an insurance company and she went along with the quote she was given.

Brand new cars come with its “perks”, so I won’t fault anyone that decides to get one. You have to be very very careful with used cars as it is easy to get your fingers burnt.

Imagine paying £4,000 for a car only to change all four tyres, brake pads and shocks within a year. And then shortly after you get told by the mechanic that the car’s engine is almost gone and you should prepare to SCRAP the car. This happened to a guy I know.

Because you can afford it doesn't necessarily mean it's a wise or rather cost-effective investment
