Is she as good as Ajakaiye?
Sebastine is the better player all rounder. Especially teamplay. Ajakaye is more selfish than Flourish to a annoying level but can be refined to become a big plus for her. Sebastine in this squad after 3 games will end up being the most fouled, and I'm not mincing words. But she's not here so we move.

didn't banda play
Banda without a Grace Chanda to give those threatening passes? Japan used isolation to kill all attack by Zambia plus those Zambian no look interested in defending. I saw the extended highlights. They looked like the had a fufu party hours before the game.

that kanu gal is skilful. Look at the impact she made immediately she came on
For thes 1st games played so face, the impact of pace is the top determinant in all of them. The realization of this makes me don't want Onumonu to start again. I saw Desire training. High chase she starts. We need that hold up in the centre and more shots from centre. Kanu is a starter too. I know Oshoala is our star girl right now, but imagine Kanu starting and Oshoala coming on when kanu has wearied that RB already. Oh my!!

Christy Uchiebe Strength is that of two People, she's just too Strong and energetic. She looks like someone who isn't even fast and I keep wondering how she close down her opponents swiftly..
We already know the analysis for the defense.

Let's shift to middle

Abiodun and Ucheibe did well defensively. Now that leaves Payne..... Noticed nobody has really analyzed her game vs Canada. I'm not that impressed. But as far as setpieces are a big deal in this team, i dont mind.

When it comes to football, technique will always defeat physicality 99% of the time. It's a shame that African teams are still struggling with the basics of football. The world has gone past Gbas Gbos football.
So far, only the Flying Easgles has given a hint that they are playing the modern game so far in a long long while. We gave top teams a big run for their money. I hope the next set of u20 falconets do something like that. We've been relying on individual brilliance for way too long.

Damn...Is Zambia in a competition to see how bad they can play or what?

ZAM 0-3 JPN
I just feel that team is disheveled after all the backstage gbasgbos. Playmaker leaves with illness excuse which I don't believe ever. Just camouflage to me. Technical teams just outmark a key forward and that's all. And african teams keep making same mistake all over and over again.

One player I'm really hoping turns out is Sebastine. That girl is a proper winger with football brains. She is not there yet but she has shown potential.
Sebastine is that baller we need. But even Kanu is still getting raves so.. unless they switch her wing sha. But i really wished more of the u20 team were here. Our forward game lacks serious threat and cordination and depends more on individual brilliance than team work. Ucheibe should stick to her DM role going forward.

Sorry, but I really struggle to see why everyone things she is all that? Her last international against Ghana was a poor exhibit for her.
I doubt if she will be as successful as Echeghini. In the midfield, I think that lady named Kalu who played in the WAFU competition in Ghana would be the next one to bring aboard the SF. The likes of Ajakaiye and Aminat Bello are waiting in the wings. Also, Rinsola is coming aboard after the WWC.

I hope I am wrong, but I really don't see her being an impact on the SF.
Haba na. Don't sound komek-ish so fast na. Anyways, a good coach will bring the best out of her. She's talented and one for the future. That wafu team is full of gems regardless of that outing.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 12:39am On Jul 22, 2023
Whoever takes over from Randy has the sole task of either creating a more modern pattern of play that makes Oshoala unlocked full barca mode, or totally change the reliance of attack on her that eyes gets off her for a while. 2 World cups, same problem.

We need 3 players

Pace-1
Vision-1
Control-1

Kanu
Onyenezide
Ayinde
Till further notice, we don't look like dominating play unless things change. The personnel is almost on ground, yet...

Question we Nigerians and Africans should be asking is how Ohale was able to walk away from that vicious stomp from the Canadian white girl?
It was intentional, deliberate and callous. Yet she got away scotch free without a single caution or VAR review?
Seriously? That’s the kind of stomps that produce compound fractures that takes eons to heal and are career ending!
I taya o. Was the ball even in contention for the ohale own? Definitely not. Yet..... I hate when people try to make it look like we overreacting. When i saw some mad folks defend Matuidi stamp on Onazi that year, that's when i knew you will need a white man to convince these kinds that there is bias in this officiating. Na benefit of doubt dey shield them mostly.

My Analysis of the game. What do you guys think

1. The most important point for me is that the team had a game plan and they executed it almost perfectly. If you've followed the Super Falcons for sometime, you'll know we've always had issues with defensive discipline. Randy did a good job drilling the team to be disciplined defensively the entire game.

2. The criticisms of Oshoala are unwarranted. You don't build attacks in isolation. She rarely received supplies and that's due to the way we played.

3. Blessing Demehin was solid defensively. She made critical tackles and blocks that kept us in the game. She however was an eyesore anytime she received the ball. She almost always gave the ball away and put pressure on the team defensively. Of course being her first world cup, nerves may have kicked in, but if I were Randy, bill rather be safe than sorry. It's better they avoid passing the ball to her and leave her to her defensive responsibility.

4. Same can be said for Michelle Alozie. She was okay defensively (her first half play wasn't impressive), she however put the team in uncomfortable positions. All her runs forward amounted to nothing, cause she either had problems controlling the passes she received or she just takes too long deciding what to do with it. She needs to step up quickly.

5. Deborah Abiodun and Christy Ucheibe understood the assignment. Debbie was all over the place making critical interceptions, giving the Canadians a run for their money. Ucheibe gave a player of the match display in my opinion. If she keeps the tempo we'll surely have a great world cup campaign. Of importance is the fact that Debbie proved many here wrong who questioned her inclusion in the team.

6. Onomonu despite playing wide was great today. Despite her lack of pace, she was a torn in the flesh for the Canadian defence, and gave us our only shot on target. She was less effective in the second half cause Randy switched her position for Ordega to probably accommodate Ordega and of course it didn't work.

7. Osinachi Ohale put her entire body to work today. There was nothing else to give. She marshalled that defense like a general. Kudos to her.

8. Toni Payne is a fantastic player. A forward runs today eased pressure on our defence significantly. Something worth nothing also is that she's significantly improved our chances from scoring in set piece situations. She probably played all of our set pieces and not once did she fumble. I see is scoring from one of these situations in the next 2 games.

9. Ashleigh Plumtre had a good game, considering she was again played out of position. She obviously didn't fulfill a key full back role of helping launch attacks, but she was solid defensively. Canada rarely explored her wing as she was solid, Alozie's was were the deficiency was primarily.

10. Chiamaka Nnadozie. Nigeria's best goalkeeper both male and female. God bless whoever discovered her. Won't say much, being recognised as player of the match says it all.

11. Francisca Ordega should please sir out the next game. Yes she helped Alozie a couple of times defensively, but she failed in her primary role of launching the counter. She was moot offensively. When Asisat made that run, got past the goalkeeper and made the rash decision to attempt scoring, Ordega didn't help the situation as she was mostly watching and only started making a run after Asisat got past the goalkeeper. I've said here repeatedly that she isn't the same player anymore. The earlier we move on from.her the better.

12. Randy Waldrum. I'm not a fan, but he planned and executed today. That's what coaches do. You may not like the way the team played, but the fact that he got them to play how he wanted and they executed says a lot. Also big balls to have started Abiodun, the gamble worked. Kudos to him.
Totally agree with your point 11. Why do they always leave Oshoala alone in such circumstances? That's terrible judgement. See how they swarm our box and yet they were quick to recover their structure. I also noticed the overcrowding in the box for our CK was detrimental. They left only Abiodun as last woman and it also choked any movement of the ball that could have led to a goal. Ordega is fine as a late sub. But the plan of her coming on should be to be the lone winger that drifts to the centre. Her best highlight was that fake cross. Nothing more. A 5/10 performance for me.

Wait, are we really blaming the result on Racism? The leg breaker which deservedly so received a red on racism as well?

My god!! when will we ever grow tf up! We always gotta blame our profligacy and ineptness on someone else in this country...Smh
Not really, but we all know how such decisions affect the way the game turns out. Onazi was injured by Matuidi and was given a yellow. That ruined our structure cos Onazi was off and the criminal was still on pitch.

It's a big deal because similar happened at 2019 as well. If the challenges on Ohale were reviewed and red card given, i can bet you the trajectory of the game would totally change cos they were poor defensively. Till then. Deborah own was deserved anyway. More intentional than the one that got Ayinde suspended for this game.

Kanu would be good... Oshoala should just stay in the centre...

As for Alozie, she was kinda unsettled today..to be honest, she's usually unsettled in defence.... I hope Nicole Payne hits it's fast at PSG...so we will finally have a natural right back . Alozie, IMO is being wasted at right back....
Oshoala at centre vs Oshoala at wing.... I prefer the latter. She never ever gets shots or shots on target when in the middle. She was isolated in the game and Like i complained during wafcon, our buildup play when we approach the box 18 is too poor. Once we reach 25yrds, this mentality of going solo just pops up and it's bad. See Canadan using pace and space to string us apart of not that we held on hard.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 12:25pm On Jul 21, 2023

Michelle couldn't even bring down passes given to her....There was a play in the first half where we were 5v3 against Canada in their defensive 3rd, ball was played to her from Toni, she took like 6 touches before bringing the ball under control, by which then, the Canadian team had recovered their defensive positions to make it 5v7 and she had to make a back pass to Christy and it was intercepted...Lol. A simple control and cross or pass would have left Ordega, Onumonu, Oshoala, Deborah and Toni against Kadeisha, Gilles and Riviere.

Also Ahsley was cooking on that flank the whole first half, so she didn't have the opportunity to attack as often.
She puts herself under pressure and i don't like it. You don't do that to your team that deep. A team like Spain or Germany would capitalize and score asap. I still want her played as a forward anyway. This RB thing is obviously not her calling abeg.

Stats of the threat by our forwards, i hope Randy is going to use it. Kanu came on and was an instant threat. I wish South Africa's mothlalo was playing for us. Oshoala needs one player from the middle that understand her. All her threatening moves were started by the full backs. I don't like that one bit.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 12:19pm On Jul 21, 2023
M7even:
Yeah. You might be right. Deborah probably needs to quickly understand that going foward in the national team her role will not be much of an offensive player as she played with the junior team. She need to start prepping her mind in the direction of a defensive midfield. Because when we look at her performance defensive-wise, I noticed she excelled quite well. She got the ball and distributes it perfectly well. I was looking at her with the idea that she is an offensive player with some deadly long ball shot. Barring the red card she did perform satisfactorily. She is being moulded to a form of kante like manner.
Does this mean that Christy's about to get a new role as CM or she's still.... Well at least under Randy sha.

Onumonu tried today, but against Australia, Randy should go for more natural wingers... Esther and Ajibade on the flank should do..

Kudos to the ladies, they really tried..
I'll prefer Kanu and Oshoala. I dunno why Desire is not available. Injured? We really need natural wingers.

Ashleigh understands that supporting her winger is a keey requirement. Alozie didn't do that on the other side. Hopefully she does so next time. Those scrambles though.

That press style will determine how far we go. We can't continue to play 2nd fiddle all 90. But this is a good test of resilience and character.

Debbie will be frightened. The senior girls should encourage her. Should have been 10 v10 but racism dey officiating.

After the match, and after watching match video, the faults and kinks will be highlighted and worked on.

Now we move to the return of Ayinde and Rash. That midfield survived today. We didn't dominate at all. We need to dominate, especially that pressing. Looks like we didn't have man marking structure for the press sef.

Yeah but at least she tracked back to defend compared to Oshoala and the other attackers. She just needs to do her defending outside the penalty area.
Oshoala duty is to stay up field. Nothing concern her with defending. But they should let Ordega stay outside too. She caused a similar foul that got overlook at wafcon as well. Defence will be structures and her moves go just kpai momentum.

While Randy failed to sub Abiodun earlier on, let's not forget her ability to mark and pressure the Canadians was much needed.
A simple tweak, though easier said than done, was yo bring two players that can press and leave Christy as DM. The entire midfield were exhausted after 60th min sotey you'll think we still on 2subs mode. Randy should allow these ladies not get injuries abeg.

Deborah would have been taken out at 70minutes at least… I wonder when he brought in Echegini and moved her to the Flank, why not bring in Monday Gift
We didn't have the personnel to press their weak defenders and at least a midfielder that will be winning fouls in threatening areas. By 2nd half he should have brought in Esther and Kanu to win this game. Oshoala and Onumonu don't have the energy to press. We need to use that approach cos that's the modern style. Glad our defence stood up and our Gk with WOTM performance. Going forward, my eyes are on Alozie. She will win tackle but cause double trouble for herself and everyone deep in our half. Haba.
