It looks like all our opponents, except France (and possibly Spain) would have parked the bus in our matches. This is truly unprecedented. I can’t even the recall the last global tournament where most of our opponents started the game by parking the bus against us
They probably went to Google and watch our unbeaten, and are scared or something. But that France game tripled the fear.

It's time for the girls to switch this gear and double the efforts, as well as listen to their Coach.

Yea
He crosses were threatening all game! I like the fact that the team has improved its crossing ability and corner kick as the tourney has progressed.

Like you said, it’s a shame that those crosses were under-utilized; if not, the Falconets would have handily beaten Canada 6-1. No cap.
I've even realized that the goalkeeping section in this tournament is nothing much to right home about. As much as we dey complain about Oyono, she's still unrivalled when it comes to performance. If we just click with these crosses alone.....

The Right side is even yet to wake up.

That Olise goal is trademark EPL quality. From Imuran to Olise.

Nice reference to the Dutch #7. Lizzy Rijsbergen is indeed their Star girl. A fine finisher too.

But well said, we are expected to indeed dominate proceedings vs the Dutch even better than we did vs France.

Expect Nigeria to run the midfield show but we truly must avoid mistakes at the back and this is where my concern for Omini pops up again.

Also, we gotta be more clinical. We need to fashion out more shots at goal.

In all, I expect a win.
We currently have a reputation for leaving it late. Imagine the killing of hopes if we stun early?? grin

Couldn't have said it better

Nothing more to add.

Knock out stages however could be dicy. I believe we are favourites, but we just have to want it more. We should be fine
We truly need to want it more. As it stands, we are a force. Our level headedness and tact will be a big difference on days we can't understand.

To be honest, sometimes the girls need to calm down... There was a moment in the first half when Okpe got the ball in the Canadian boss and rather than calm down and bring the ball under control, she decided to shot immediately...
If we scale through, our first defensive test will be vs Spain(i tip Spain over Mexico). I hope he makes all of their hot blood to realize exactly who Spain is. grin

Who has watched Netherlands play before? Any chance against them?
Defensive errors got them a good portion of their goals, aside the pks they got. They are good at Cks. Their game against USA shows how bad the usa defence was. Their no 7 will struggle alot vs Imuran imo. She's their star girl.

Midfield battle? Non existent- We will come out tops.
Setpieces? I give it to them. We should be wary of in box tackles. That's if they give them a chance, which i doubt. Got some good headers too.

As for attack- i doubt they can handle our forwards, sincerely. The Ghana goal is proof of that. Even if Flourish starts from bench, they still won't be able to successfully soak in the threat. We really need to take our chances as we are going to see alot of those.

Coach Danjuma better allow Abiodun start that game. This is her kind of game.

We will be their first real test of their own strengths. I won't be surprised if they go the korean way.

Lol. I agree the barking of orders were much (not that I heard them anyway, but post match comment from fans confirmed it), but it appear to be his style.. He was famous for it even at the last edition of the tournament... But as long as it works, it should be fine.. He probably does that because the girls are young..it's easier to coach them...If it was the super falcons,I don't think it will work .. Imagine him barking at Rita to run faster cheesy
His constant Calm down cal. Down shouts didn't really work. He needs to find another style. The girls are definitely hot blooded grin
It makes his job easier anyway. They are hungry. As it stands, it's tactics and discipline that looks like his major contribution here.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 12:42pm On Aug 18, 2022
Looks like that 4141 formation really paid off.

I expected he removed Flourish. Maybe he wanted her to score. Only a goal and i hope she's not tracking Linda Caicedo o. She should just focus and play her thing.

Three favourites are out and that gives a booster. Japan though....

I won't be surprised if Netherland take up a cautious approach like Koreans did. They really need to. Our midfield pair are the most impactful to me asides the Spanish midfielders.

Oyono probably got carried away with her stats of a dozen saves in two games. The team physio needs to have a serious talk with her. She needs to be calm and think of doing her best to help the general course. The koreans noticed her fear and reacted fast. She was lucky against them. She's proved she can be up to the task, so why still silly and jittery?

Brazil vS Columbia is a must watch. Sad one of the two gats go home. Columbia are more revved up for the challenge and are also favourites. Linda is on fire. Unless it is quality of opponent. If we were in group A, we would have gotten a dozen goals.

Best of luck to the girls.

For now, most solid group performance are Rofiat Imuran and Onyenezide Esther.

JohnBullMySon:
Lol. grin Which ginger? Na you dey the field?

Maybe cos I've been watching the age grade teams for quite a long time maybe. I don't think we're as powerful as we used to be. I set high standards for them in my head,

As against the France game, we improved in our passing. By a huge margin. Very impressive. But we must improve in our attack seriously. Mostly individual play. It's good for now btw.

I've not seen some of the other games. No time. I won't estimate or predict again so I don't turn out wrong again. Whether positive or negative.
The intensity has dropped. If you followed the Oshoala set, you'll easily agree. Especially the fans. But that's not just us alone. It's all the teams. But at this level still, powerhouses still have their reputation.

Usa
France
South Korea
Japan
Germany

Now you can't first of all beat a team like France, with players from Lyon and PSG and not be pumped up. And on a night the showers were heavy again, we still showed up down to the last minute. Give them their accolades.

As for the last match. Despite their own reputation, they recognized the facts from our france game and made their own tactical adjustment to frustrate us. Normally, they go rate us, and that showed, even with their attitude when attacking. But they respected us enough to pack the bus and that's fear too. Vice versa, we all know we'd be wary of such teams.

They still bossed them all rounda, except for shots at goal. I, personally, was already happy it would end goalless. Then Esther came through.

As for that attack, you're absolutely right. Someone needs to step up whenever's Flourish isn't threatening.

In conclusion, these girls are on full confidence from these two wins due to the calibre of our opponents, asides their own achievement prior to this competition.

Seeing Usa and Germany being schooled should tell you why it will be a diff ball game this time. We are part of would be winners as it stands, provided that attack comes alive like the defence and the solid midfield.

I know we've been recommending many of these girls to the senior team due to their performance so far. But i won't lie, Three need automatic drafting to the Falcons.

The goal scorer-Onyenezide
Demehin
Rofiat Imuran.

This will reduce that rubbish makeshifting at least. Plus we will have a skillful midfielder will a trick or two. We currently lack that.

Rofiat Adenike Imuran, #14, is quite a very good, strong, fast and technical left back. She, I like. wink

She did give away the ball once though but I think aside that, she rarely put a foot wrong. Very good LB coming through at this level.

Too much long balls
Dunno why Demehin is even attempting that when we haven't successfully utilized one. Noticed our fullbacks aren't really assisting like that too. Imuran is on the cautious approach so far. The one time she burst forward, we threatened. This is the game our midfielders need to shoot as the attackers drag players with them.

These Koreans are confident of their own shooting prowess, unlike us.

Good thing we outplayed them. But end result is needed and one or two must change.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 11:15pm On Aug 14, 2022
Our 11 looks like she's struggling with a knock or so. Amoo. Counter will do the trick, but while our passes are even better, we aren't really on the nut cracking approach right now. These Koreans sabi positioning and they're playing 451 again. They seem pleased that we didn't trouble their keeper. We need to reduce the heavy touches and increase the 1-2s.

Onyenezide has done well so far. Looks like no point-girl.
