Edit: am blind, Kongo is there.
Culture / Re: What’s The Most Divergent Igbo “language”? by Daverytimes(m): 11:51pm On May 16, 2020
ChinenyeN:
The difference between a language and dialect is arbitrarily based on socio-politics. There is no universal criteria to distinguish between the two. As such, linguists have opt to say that all languages are in fact just dialects (or, to avoid all socio-political implications, lects). Everyone speaks a dialect. Whether your dialect is counted as a language is ultimately arbitrary and subjective.

Probz, to answer your question. The Igbo languages sit on a continuum. As such, there isn't one that is "most divergent". The only exception to this it seems is Ekpeye. Ekpeye also is part of the continuum. It just shows more consistent divergence than other lects. However, you seem to not want to include Ekpeye. So with that, we can say that divergence can definitely be arbitrary.

Determining which is "most divergent" would depend heavily on who you ask. It would depend on their (positive or negative) views with respect to other Igbo groups and depend on their primary lect, and even how exposed they may be to other lects.

But, if I am to answer the question personally, for myself, I might say Abakaliki. Granted, someone from Abakaliki equally said the same to me about Ngwa, even though I believe there should be other lects that rank higher than Ngwa as far as divergence.

I had a brief talk with someone under a YouTube video and the same points you made was what I made, languages are inherently political and what constitutes a stand alone language is not understood and based solely on politics.

I think in general if a dialect is unintelligible to those in the same group of languages then it is a different language under the same group, ekpeye is a different language under the igboid group of languages as it is simply unintelligible to most Igbo. Whether or not it can be considered too divergent depends on if you still consider it a dialect or a different language.

Check out the fan art I made using Akagu version of Nsibidi (found here http://blog.nsibiri.org/2017/09/akagu-igbo-alphabet.html )
I also ended up making it using Roman Characters and a font that resembles the font in the Black Panther movies.
What do you all think?

That's nice.
First heard about Nsibidi on Sribd back in 2013, there was a guy who was putting together a dictionary and in general worrking towards reviving it. Didn't pay attention to it till late last year, trying to learn it now and akagu is really a breeze to learn, nsibidi is a lot harder but when the two are used it flows nicely.

We need to start using this in Igbo communication, am hoping it becomes widespread over the next decade.

..you are funny man...try to be objective rather than allow your negative emotions about pastors rule you..I agree that many pastors are thieves and selfish...but dragging them into this is just lame...

Tailor fit provision was made by one man and his Airline, it was provision to airlift as much as he could on his own budget. The government was not supporting him.

There are 10s of people still stuck at the consulate with no way to get back, those people are not being flown back by anyone. Many of them have private jets with 10 plus seater capacity, so don't give me that.

Politics / Where Were Our Private Jet Pastors When They Were Needed? by Daverytimes(m): 1:33pm On Sep 15, 2019
Let's get this out of the way, it is the governments job to bring home its citizens if they are in danger. However when it became clear that our government (as always) was beyond incompetent, what was the action of the pastors that had the capacity to bring even if it is just a few Nigerians home.

Where were they when our citizens needed them.
Not one pastor thought it best to even offer to provide their private jet to airlift Nigerians.

I think there is mighty confusion between liquid cash, Assets, and currency.

Does Davido have 1 billion Naira in his accounts? No.
Is Davido worth far more than 1 billion Naira? (the sum of all his assests, like houses, cars, jewelry, e.t.c) Yes, most definitely he is.
Is Davido worth 1 billion DOLLARS? Hell no, nowhere near.

As some have said, we don't have a lot of Dollar millionaires in Nigeria, depending on who is doing the research we have anywhere from 15 to 71 thousand millionaires. For a country of 200 million that is abysmal.
Nigeria however has the fastest growing population of millionaires, meaning Nigeria is minting more dollar millionaires than any other country in the world, so even though it's really suspect when these musicians claim certain things I don't thin we should discount them entirely as not having anything in their account.

The F-35 Turkey would never see.

Turkish Air Force F-35A, now ex.

Was is it a good decision for Turkey to have gone for the S-400 over the F-35?

Turkey has the second largest army in NATO.

Turkey also spends above the mandatory 2% of GDP on defence. It actually spends over, while the likes of Germany spends under 2%.

Turkey had pledged to buy 110 F-35A's.

Turkey also makes parts for the F-35 program. This manufacturing would now be moved back to the US.

Russia is now offering Turkey the SU-35.

Would be a big loss to both the US and Turkey (the plane will definitely get more expensive), but frankly having proper A2/AD is more important today than having stealth fighters.

Turkey wanted to buy the patriots but the US refused, when they went to the Russians the US decided to offer the patriot but at a much higher price than the s400, and they refused tech transfer, how is that turkeys fault. The US was refusing to sell an inferior system, when they did, they were refusing to do tech transfer and the system was much more expensive than the s400.

Some random lunatic decides to launch a tirade against the Nigerian army Tactical Patrol Vehicle, as he puts it, it's a random piece of junk.

Yet, the coward couldn't stay on to defend his comment. He immediately deletes his profile after his comment.

Fools like @Stephandeswardt decide to shower him with support, at least he wasn't cowardly to delete his profile. Some other fools decided to hide behind likes to show support for the coward.

What is the Nigerian Army Tactical Patrol Vehicle. This vehicle is primarily a High Mobility Vehicle designed for Patrols. A number of countries around the world use High Mobility Vehicles, the most popular been the Humvee.

They are designed to overcome obstacles, rough terrains and are in many cases referred to as All Terrain Vehicles.

The Lunatic claimed our TPV is a badly done weld job. A junk. He circled a number of areas before fleeing like a buffoon.

So here are some examples from around the world with similar designs.

The Tactical Patrol Vehicle follows a similar design principle.

See the vehicle in motion in this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOFvNgCBrPE

The TPV might not be aesthetically pleasing at this point but if it does what it is designed to do, why bother about beauty? undecided

Go and lie down Henry, it seems you got drunk at some point.
You do not have to be an engineer to see that it is shoddy construction, you also don't have to insult people for pointing out the obvious. No one bolts a shock to the frame that way, it will snap with any rigorous driving. For a vehicle meant to travers rough terrain quickly, that is not a good design in anyway shape or form. As is all things it will improve, but do not pretend it's where it should be. Also, don't act so defensive when people point these things out.
