Change has indeed come - for Americans only.

If you want change you can start by removing Yar Adua.

not his fault, this is a byproduct of his actions. i have a feeling, africans who are usually conservatives have little clue what obama stands for.
What actions?

Speak on the economy?

He bleeped IT UP BIG TIME!!
If you spend $10bn a month on a useless war in Iraq your economy is bound to tank at some point.

bawomolo:
I disagree, it was bush's fault for not putting enough troops on the ground after saddam was toppled. disbanding the iraqi army(unemployed angry men with knowledge of weaponry??) and de-baathification has backfired on the US. we should have focused on afghanistan rather than been bogged down in iraq.
Lets not put the entire blame on bush alone, he didnt create the unstable geographical fraud called Iraq.
I agree to your points i highlighted.

Barack's step grandmother is busy holding a press conference - only in Africa!

Where were they when Barack was just a little kid?

not directly but indirectly. some people have just fallen in love with him for his speeches. gosh even nairaland is overloaded with tons of threads on the same topic. are we this enthusiastic about our homeland politics undecided undecided
I repeat . . . how is it his fault? Shld he suddenly drop dead or refuse the presidency so Africans (who are the majority noise makers) redirect their priorities?

JustGood:
@David, the fact that we have idiotic leaders does not mean that we have to become dumb or unable to voice our opinions about other leaders.
It however means we shld be careful the way we "voice our opinion" about other leaders. We cannot freely "voice our opinion" about our leaders without fear of being hounded by the SSS then why do we feel a God-given right to "voice our opinion" about others?

JustGood:
Bush was a moronic idiot who caused a lot of problems for the whole world. oops - did I just call a president an idiot? lipsrsealed

Bush destroyed too many lives in Iraq with his stupidity - lives of hundreds of women and children. He has increased hatred and division all around the world
I repeat . . . it wasnt Bush's fault. The initial push into Iraq took extremely few lives and had the sunnis and shias not turned on themselves, Iraq would be a success story today.

He did not increase hatred all around the world, the middle east has simply used the Iraq crisis as an excuse to explain away their irrational hate.

Talking about polls. I will enjoin everyone not to put too much hope in these polls going into the election. Why you may ask? Among other reasons, how do you account for up to 80% refuse-to-respond reply to the pollsters' questions? The polls we are do not account for this. Assuming these people who refuse to respond are Obama's, then the race will be a landslide victory for him. If on the other hand they are McCain's you can be sure Obama stands no chance.

Considering that Obama is the "hip" choice and these folks go against the grain to not respond at all, then I will tell you Obama is in very big trouble.

Early voting which is traditionally the strength of the Democrats hasn't showed any Obama edge so far. Florida, arguably the most liberal State in the Union that was supposed to be in the bag for Obama is now very competitive and Obama is still throwing money there like no man's business. Reason for this is not far-fetched. A ballot initiative banning gay marriage is in the offing. You can imagine how this is energizing the traditional conservative base to go out and vote. This does not bode well for Obama, considering the fact that polls indicate the ban will be upheld. If same people who uphold the ban vote traditionally, then bye-bye to Florida for Obama.

In short, I can not put my money on this election. It is way too complicated to predict.

- Sir, i agree with you that we shld not have put much hope in these polls . . . if anything they UNDER-ESTIMATED Obama's margin of victory.

This is more than ridiculous. How is he "breeding" this cult? Is it his fault that people want to be a part of US history?

He didnt. Clinton had the chance to take out Bin Laden, he failed . . . Bush inherited the problem.

SeanT21:
I think Bush will go down in history as one of the worst President. The only thing I admire about him was his connection with Liberia. President wise, He failed!!
How? To be honest Africans have absolutely no rights to call President Bush a failure . . . Bush at his worst is 100x better than our best presidents.

If the Iraq war had gone to plan (no insurgency) and had been concluded immediately after Saddam's capture he would have gone down as America's best president.

Iraq is not Bush's fault, it is simply an implosion of an unstable entity forcefully created by the British long before Bush was born.
Much as I hate him, substantially for his arrogance, I was impressed with his concession speech. This is the first time I see something positive about McCain. Already referring to Obama as my President etc, the guy tried. In our own climes, post-election speech by a defeated candidate, no matter how sportmanly he wants to appear, will still have expression of displeasure, if not outright rejection and condemnation of the election or attack on the winner.

I'm aware that sportmanly political behaviour is not something unusual up there, but still, McCain tried here.
He had no choice at all, at 72 it was his last chance of achieving his personal ambition (forget about "country first"wink to become President of the US.
The result wasnt even close, it was a big beating . . .

You obviously don't know what you are talking about regarding ACORN. Your earlier statement that they are only into regeistering voters clearly shows your ignorance. Rather than take time to research how they influenced and promoted the Subprime mortgage mess you are here making ridiculous analogies.

I leave you to continue in your delusions. I don't have the time to educate you now. The www has a lot of resources to help you. You might want to begin from there.

As to our other discussions, it is clear you will rather make completely irrelevant parallels than to defend your stance with good argument and facts. Again, I'll let you enjoy your world. I gat no time to reshape it.
Was it ACORN that gave out the subprime loans? grin
Uncle TayoD is feeling angry after this elections.

3 years is not the same as 0 years. You can't ignore his Asian stepfather just because you want to "polish" up Obama. His stepfather helped raise him and his experiences in Indonesia contributed to making him what he is today. That was the only father figure he knew in his formative years.
this is not a "polish" Obama campaign . . . neither are we ignoring his his stepfather . . . we are simply saying 3 yrs is not the same as over 10 yrs. If indeed his Asian stepfather was that important in his life Obama himself has never said so. I'm not sure you can speak on his behalf on who his real father-figure was.

tpia:
and going by your logic here, my Nigerian relatives who havent lived in Nigeria, arent Nigerian?
I dont consider my cousins - who have both Nigerian parents but have never been to Nigeria - as Nigerian. I see them purely as American . . . whatever they achieve has nothing to do with Nigeria.

If Obama were going to jail for murder today would Africans be running to this forum to support Obama?

if you see a Nigerian with a similar cv, would you consider the person non-Nigerian?
yes. There's no point trying to claim credit for what we did not help to create.

He was raised by his white grandparents AND his Asian stepfather in Indonesia. Why do people keep ignoring this? huh
For how long was this Asian stepfather in his life? Apparently not more than 3 yrs . . . i dont consider that "raising".

@Poster

Obama has his roots in Kenya, he has Kenyan blood in his vains and he just became president of the most powerful nation in the world, what's wrong with giving the people a day off on his behalf?
He has Kenyan roots but is not Kenyan at all. He's been to Kenya for less than 30 days in his entire 47 yrs, was raised by white American grandparents in America. We all seem to fall over ourselves with this "kenyan roots" idea, forgetting that the man is also half white.

If Americans can wake up and go right back to work this morning, it is sheer stupidity for Kenyans (who cant even conduct a decent election that sees the challenger beat the incumbent) to declare a national holiday . . . to celebrate what?

Sorry Africa, but Obama's loyalty is to America not you. Go back and build your own electoral system. the reason we are happier than everyone else is because we see systems working in other nations that we can only dream about.

When will Nigeria elect an igbo president?
