Asking her to take care of your mom as though she's beneath you is irresponsible of you. You should BOTH do this and don't put your own responsiblity on your wife alone. As someone already said: she's not your servant or your slave.

You as much as her, are both responsible for taking care of your mother --- so tell her you are both going. You are certainly NOT as exception to the rule.
