U are obviously losing your mind on this one. are u related to mode9? the 'phrase hard to survive' if you listened to ruggedman's rap you would find out u are wasting a lot of energy.

The phrase was a direct quote from ruggies's line on that track and what he means as do I is the survival in the entertainment world and yes that translates to life. The 42 million psquare made was a reference to the fact that it pays to make naija a base of naija songs. You are talking like someone who has not been in direct contact with the entertainment business in naija. and for that, it is easy for u to say!

If u are an artiste, try to release a naija song without naija in it and I will expect you to come back to this thread in a year. . . no, sorry in ten years.

I still repeat it. . . . name a naija musician who has made a hit and survived in the naija entertainment world without naija in his song. Quote value in naira also.

If you cant, please get it zipped up  grin
@
Cabali,
F'course i kno t'was a line from Ruggedy's line, and a shot at M9.
So lets do this with that in mind:
followin ur assertions, that line is pointless.
Y?, cos 1- M9 is Makin it, 2-he's surviving, 3- he adds 9ja.So wats d fuss?
That is ma stand.
Now u tell me if it's otherwise.Or u sayin the degree to which u add 9ja
is the same extent to which u make it/survive. What exactly does he or do u even mean by ADDIN 9JA?
It's funny u just went over urself over nothin.
All i said is "there r those addin 9ja that arent makin it as much as some not addin 9ja.
Simple enuff fact i tot, until u came wit ur gibberish fit.

That said, these tracks stood out of the artiste album/career and got them recognition>
dunno if they added 9ja or not, u tell me.

One love- Onyeka-(unarguable her biggest hit)
Angel of ma life- P.play -(was a huge hit)
Not the girl- Darey-(the tightest so far on d alb.)
African Queen -Tface-(u know how far it went and what it translated to in royalty)
i consider M.i's illegal Mixtape far better than the album, im still lookin for the 9ja added.
Shud i go on? grin

Infact if u'v not noticed that the Paradigm has Shifted and stil shiftin' from the "Must-Add-9j- syndrome"
u are on ur own, tho i got nothin against addin 9ja.

And i'd advice u read in english too! Interpretation of what I wrote is that not all that add naija could make that much. I just gave one example and u lost ur mind. But I say that if u remove naija, you cant make that much just yet. If u have examples, I ask again. . . . . . name and figure

I have told u who has made it with naija, tell me who did without naija.

All the artiste that can be paid over N2m a show like dbanj, 2face, 9ice. They all gat naija in their songs. Tell me a strictly non-naija artiste in the country that pulls that much weight and has frequent shows in the country.

either you tell me or just dont reply this posts cos that would tell it all

For the Lyricist on the roll: i wonder y "Nine" by M9 is the choice.
I was expectin' either "My skin is black" or "The game needs me"
dunno how Nine will do against "Talk about it", tho not that TAI is lyrically
superior to "Nine" but im just lookin at it topical wise.

Owkaiy, im listenin to "Nine" right now,, and im begginin to see Y,

meanwhile no hit records, no endorsements, no bucks. He needs practical help.

Hip Hop is constantly evolving. If you don't evolve with it, you get so left behind. Mode's choice of beats aren't what people are bubbling to in Naija at the moment. His lyrics don't connect with the masses. You do realize that in the real world, the guy has to pay rent, eat and feed himself. The Paradigm Shift might be an album with all the lyrical wordplay, but i can assure you, there is no heat on the album, so it won't sell and if it doesn't sell, he doesn't get paid.

Wait, ok, there is one, M9.
See tru M9 eyes and u'l get this point -9ja didnt event hiphop, thus we cant play it by our own rules
there are beats that r not hiphop, just as there are beats that are not akpala, highlife etc.
A beat can change the label of the genre u claimin u r at.  Yes there can be fusion but then we'll
know it's fusion.Afterall there is a resean we have these different genres.
That is where M9 stands and if u understand that u'l respect him for what he's doin.

Yes i wish pple can feel M9 more and all. I will wanna hear him on some ill beats too

You didnt answer the topic question.

Do you think it backfired! If it did, there is no point trying to pretend it didn't happen and everybody should just move on. As you can see Funky baby is still upset.

My main concern is that Mode aint  getting the props he should be getting and i'm trying to work out why.

You have to identify a problem before you can find a solution. Not trying to brew anything but wanted to provoke people into a response.
Ok, to answer i do not think it backfired.
I do not see the track as a problem, and if it is, it aint big to harm his carreer
cos M9 major market aint bugged by it. Any lady who doesnt see the track in
the lighter mood in which it was aint worth the trouble convincing that it was
a harmless, light mood, track. Seeing it as a diss track to ladies is just kinda petulant.

I know it was meant to be funny. I listened to it a million times but it seems that it is only guys who got the joke.

On the MI or Mode thread ( don't ask which, so many these days) the girls seemed to dislike Mode because of that song. If you want to sell commercial units ( not saying Mode does) you need to appeal to the ladies. Lets face it, we all know songs we are forced to listen to and end up liking ( reluctantly) because our ladies  like them.

If there is a massive disapproval of an artist by ladies because of a song he made then I don't think I need to explain what the problems will be.

What I meant by apologising is ( for e.g) releasing a ' Nigerian Girls Part 2' where he addresses the matter (in a funny way) asks for forgiveness and points out the positive things about Nigerian girls which they will be happy to identify with and 'rock' at clubs. We all know Mode9 has wit and i believe he's got the skill to pull it off.

Comprehende?
If you've liked M9 before, "Nigerian girls" wont make u hate him,
Nigerian Girls wont be labelled "the final nail in coffin".
So believe this none of 'em gurls hatin on him is doin it cos of "Nigerian girls"
And definately an Ondo girl wuddnt be mad cos wat was said bout her
was her intelligence? A gwari chic too shudnt cos t'was the culture of carryin stuff on shoulder
that was mentioned, havin a ttribal mark aint sth M9 promulgated either.
He wasnt the 1st to infer that Igbo chics like pepper, or that a Lagos chic like partyin.

BajaGold:
This is as flawed an argument as I've ever seen,  Mode 9 is a punchline rapper,  he's not a lyrical emcee.
Ever heard the phrase. . . "you made it a hot line, I made it a hot song"

Punchline rappers are revered in the hood but it rarely translates into commercial success. . . see Cassidy, Gillie the kid, E-ness, Big L, Talib kweli. . .

Lyrical emcees transcend the hood and do well commercially without loosing their lyrical ability. . . see Jigga, Biggie, Eminem. . .

Even though you rate mode highly (and i do too) fact remains there's more to an emcee than wordplay and lyrics. His swagger, punchlines, metaphors, breath control all come into effect,

So while mode9 may have numerous quotables, he still can't make a hot song!

And so by your own understanding it's a hit song that makes an emcee LYRICALhuh?
And did u just include Talib Kweli in the list of JUST PUNCHLINE rappershuh?
Do u guys so much confuse Hit track, with if an emcee is lyrical or not?
And now M.i is more lyrical than M9?/ Greatttt!!!!
Do i need to post more lines M9 spat way back that sort of showed up reworked in M.i verses
before y'all give this dude his respect,
How on earth will anyone after my earlier post say M.i is more lyrical.
Do y'll read or just skim tru info. The fact that M.i is more commercially apealin makes him auto-more lyricalhuh
I can imagine if t'was M.i that spat all those lines and they later showed up on M9's verses, t'ld be a diff. story.
And pls since when did "swagger, punchlines, metaphors, breath control all turned to indicators of a LYRICIST?
If M9 aint lyrical, if M9 is just a punchline emcee, then i guess we have no lyrical emcee in 9ja.

Listen to the last track, it's an interview.

Yea, no controversy intended, i only wanna  show the INFLUENCE,
See, M9 made pple pay attention to puttin in work into their lines.
it's not that M.i is bitin, dude got some nice lines too all by himself
It's just that when u hear a line that makes u scratch ur head,
it propells u to wanna do a variation of it, most times Unconsciously too.

Example:
U'r just beaten APPLE sufferin from PEAR(peer) presure-M9
U want APPLE so i bought a PEAR(pair)-M.i

U can see the variation in the above.
M.i is a good lyricist in his own right, but like i always say M9 still has the custody of that lyrical crown.
The two of 'em M9 and M.i are 'bout the only rappers who beyond just droppin metas, punchlines
paint poetic pictures and tell stories with their words.

my album hot so u whisk it off the shelf/-M9

flyer than the upper echelon/-M.i
U messin with the Upper echelon/-M9

i raised the bar for lyrics y'all can do the limbo under it
cos ur whole style is confetti-M9
see it's a pity but ur witty flow is confetti -M.i

These is just few i can whip up for now.
Worthy of note is that The M.i lines are form his recent ILLIGAL MIXTAPE and few from TALK BOUT IT
While none is from M9's latest effort PS but from his earlier works.
So when i say what M9 has spat in the past still drop jaw u now see wat i'm talkin bout.
So do i hear M9 king and M.i heir,  again?
