thegoodjoehunt: Forlan was joint highest goal scorer. Messi was not. He was two goals behind James Rodriguez and a goal behind Müller. I did not say Forlan did it almost single handedly. I am saying he was the difference. Messi was not the difference for Argentina.
sometimes the internet is a bad thing. why? cus you could post anything no matter how ridiculous without having to show your face, lol.

thegoodjoehunt: CHINEKENA. He did 90% of the whole teams work?

He was not even the best player in his team. Get that? Mascherano was.
in your dreams! you can even tell yourself that nigeria is in europe, or that men have vaginas while women have pen1ses nobody will spank you for that!

thegoodjoehunt: Messi did not do it almost single handedly. Argentina did not have a high goal scoring performance. What saved them was that their defence was rock solid and they went behind once in the whole world cup and that was for About seven minutes in the whole world cup.

It was not almost single handedly. It is not true.
so you really do think that a team with aguero, lavezzi, de maria, palacio, higuain , messi (top strikers in the whole of world football) should win games based on a good defence? you just put a nail in your own coffin. no team wins the world cup without A GOOD ATTACK, A GOOD MIDFIELD AND A GOOD DEFENCE. the solid defence you are talking about could never have taken them near the second round! messi covered up for a thrash midfield, and he covered up for disgraceful higuain, aguero, palacio and lavezzi. he did the job of 6 men. without messi argentina would not play in the world cup final after 24 years. respect!

thegoodjoehunt: The goal in the Uruguay vs Ghana game in 2010 scored by the Uruguayans was scored by Forlan. So how did he not take them there. Suarez was red carded, a penalty given and Gyan missed. They went into penalties, Forlan scored and Uruguay won by penalties. Tell me how Suarez took them there more than Forlan?
see how you contradict yourself so much. on one hand you are saying that messi had a good defence and there is nothing like single handedly and then on the other hand you are trying to convince me that forlan TOOK TOOK TOOK uruguay to the semi finals. if this is not hypocrisy then tell me what is.
Sports › Re: Did Messi Deserve The World Cup Golden Ball? by ddippset(m): 12:18am On Jul 15, 2014
thegoodjoehunt: Argentine strength came from their defence. Left to Messi, they would not have made it with a shaky defence. There is no almost single handedly. Mascherano, Garay and Zabaletta were amazing. Even Demeichelis put in an amazing performance. Rojo was clearly in the top 3 right backs of the competition with Howedes and Blind.
there is always single handedly. let me put it for you in proportion so you may understand better. messi did 90% of the work.

thegoodjoehunt: You see how you exposed yourself? No wonder you thought Messi did it single handedly. You did not know that:

Mascherano made 28 tackles at the 2014 World Cup, more than any other player.

Mascherano made a tournament-high 509 passes with a 90% completion rate.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28275448
no player can win the world cup all alone. but in this tournament, messi show how a single player can drag his team almost singlehandedly. you were one of those saying at the beginning of the world cup that this argentine team are not good, belgium will knock them out, holland will knock the out and so on. then they reached the final and all of a sudden you guys remember mascherano made 1 million tackles. against iran with 10 men behind the ball and 1 min to go messi struck! against bosnia with 25 mins to go and 1 men behind the ball, messi struck! against switzerland with seconds to go and 9 men behind the ball, messi struck, against belgium with all their stars messi drew 3 defenders and laid a through pass to de maria for the only goal, against holland with all of the holland stars running from the first penalty messi stepped forward and led his team by example. even with mascherano's 1 million tackles and passes, argentina would never have crossed the quarter final.

how is suarez not in the debate? you tried to mis inform that forlan took them to the semi final when it was suarez who punched out the goal that was to dump uruguay out of the world cup. you think we've forgotten?

Di Maria had an amazing World Cup. So how did Messi do it almost single handedly?
self denial again! you are one of those who started shouting mascherano just because he made a tackle on robben after 6 games, lol. garay great, rojo great, even demicheles great, but even a 5 month old foetus knows that without messi, argentina would make the quarter final. i will not school you on this one as well.

Forlan and Shudder had Five goals and one assists. But, Forlan scored two wonder goals. Long range amazing goals. That sets him apart. So why should the award be given to Sneijder instead of Forlan?

The claim should go to Müller, who had 5 goals and 3 assists. Forlan edged him with the amazing goal which brings the magic factor I talked about. So why should it be Sneijder?
see who is talking incoherency! what is forlan and shudder? what is shudder. surely you dont mean sneijder! so now you want to play god by judging what is a beautiful goals and what is not? i keep telling you, your opinion is entirely yours. stop thinking you and making a lot of sense to the world.

thegoodjoehunt: The Golden Ball award is an individual award. Simple question who was the best player at the World Cup. That individual that stood head and shoulders above every other player at the World Cup. It definitely was not Messi.
'head and shoulders', 'head and shoulders', 'head and shoulders'. these words only exist in your imagination. if there was anything like head and shoulders then one man will get 100% of the votes. there are 5 top contestant and each had a case, each had pros and cons. drop this your head and shoulders for one side abegi!

thegoodjoehunt: First final in 24 years. You guys are funny. Highest chances from many corner kicks. Highest dribbles. Okocha deserves the 1998 Golden Ball. 4 man of the match award ARPANET Iran, Bosnia, Nigeria and the fake one against Switzerland. As I said before no case.
never in my life have i seen or heard of a player still being criticised after getting to the world cup final. out of 32 teams (whether you play sweet or ugly), you make it to the top 2, and still being down rated. this is sad. messi took argentina almost singlehandedly to the world cup final, and they are still criticizing? man is indeed wicked!

thegoodjoehunt: Where did you get the advancement criteria from. How far will it be advancement enough? James Rodriguez was clearly the best player of the World Cup. He was head and shoulders over everyone including Muller, ROBben and Messi.

He did not need 7 matches. If how far you advanced is a criteria, then the winner should be the person that advanced the farthest. Which isn't Messi. Medal had no case.
the essence of the world cup is not for james or anybody to come and win the best player award. the essence of the world cup is for a country to come and win the world cup trophy. getting to the quarter final is not enough.
Sports › Re: Did Messi Deserve The World Cup Golden Ball? by ddippset(m): 11:35pm On Jul 14, 2014
thegoodjoehunt: You said players in 2010 had strong cases. That is the answer why a lot of people are disappointed. Messi has no case why he was given the award.

Players had better cases like Müller - 5 goals and 3 assists. His team won the World Cup.
James Rodriguez - 6 goals and 2 assists. All done in five games. He scored two amazing goals and the best goal of the tournament.
messi has no case? messi has no case? messi has no case? messi has no case? lwkmd. argentina's first final in 24 years! the only guy with 4 man of the match awards? 4 goals and 1 assist! highest dribbles! highest chances created! one of the best goals of the tournament! and he has no case? this is getting ridiculous.

lemme indulge you one more time- james did not win the golden ball because his team didnt advance enough; a quarter final spot is not good enough to win you a golden ball, no player in the history of the competition has ever won it from the quarter final position. robben, lots of runs, lots of dribbles, lots of dives! messi didnt score in the knock out, robben didnt either, robben scored only 3 times, messi 4 times, robben got to semi final, messi final, robben won 2 man of match awards messi 4, robben's team got eliminated by messi's team, so how in the name of zeus' bvtthole should robben be placed above messi? muller, yes that's the guy i expected to win it only ahead of messi, maybe he didnt win because he wasnt as indispensable to his team as messi was. maybe. so do you understand now? i know you will never understand.

This does not pain me. What pains me is when I see people supporting cheating and corruption. It is one thing for someone to get cheated. It is another thing when people lie to support cheating.

lie of the century! in 2010, any of sneider, iniesta, villa, muller, casillas could have beaten forlan to the golden ball, esp sneider. he was the reason uruguay reached the semi final? another majestic lie. what did he do against ghana? a suarez turned keeper was the reason uruguay reached the semi final. thegoodjoehunt: We can not deny that Zidane was actually the best player in the 2006 World Cup. Without doubt, he was head and shoulders above everyone in that tournament.

Note when I listed criteria, I said something magical to give your team a lift. Zidane gave one of the greatest world cup performance ever seen in the game against Brazil in 2006. His game also against the Spaniards was breathless.

Zidan in 2006 World Cup was nothing less than magic.

Zinedine Zidane vs Brazil - Magical Performance 2006 WC

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNxDze0Ggag
good you say zidane was the stand out player, others were below par, ronaldinho and co. but that was not the situation in 2010 and 2014. in SA 2010, there were a lot of stand out players and there was controversy as well, was it to be forlan, sneider, iniesta, xavi, villa, muller and casillas. each one of these 7 players had a very strong case for the golden ball. when forlan was awarded there was a bit of grumbling i promise you. this year we have messi, james, robben, neuer, muller and kroos. everyone of these 6 players has a strong case for the golden ball but only one has to win. but why is the crying so much this year? SIMPLE! because messi is involved! ever since 2009, everything has been messi or ronaldo. anything messi wins, ronaldo fans would come out in thousands crying, anything ronaldo wins, messi fans would come out in thousands crying. 90% of those crying about this golden ball to messi are ronaldo fan boys either openly or in disguise. but they will keep crying.

thegoodjoehunt: You are being incoherent. I was not talking about CR7 being better than Messi read again. You will see you are the sentimental one here.

I said you have to be the best in some criteria before being tagged the best. Just like when Messi broke the scoring record of Gerd Müller.

You just went ballistic because I used CR7 as an example. I was responding to someone saying CR7 went trophyless and was still crowned the best.

He was the best at being the season's top goal scorer. In the World Cup, Messi was not an assists king or top goal scorer.
o yeah, you love to use examples that are so convenient for you. so when forlan won the golden ball in 2010, he was the best in what? when zidane won it in 2006 he was the best in what? when ribery won the european player of the year he was the best in what? you dont have to be best in anything, you have to be the best player. being best player doesnt stop at scoring the highest goals. it's left for the constituted panel to sit and decide. your problem is that you feel you know what is right and what is to be done! you ve got only one head, other people have got only one head as well. because you think something is right does ot make it right.
Sports › Re: Did Messi Deserve The World Cup Golden Ball? by ddippset(m): 10:29pm On Jul 14, 2014
thegoodjoehunt: The World Cup is not Ballon D'or. This is a tournament. It takes a best at something to be crowned the best player of the World Cup.

Best goal scorer, best assists, highest in combination when you look at assists and goals of all players. Best defender, best keeper. Or, a magical performance that gives your team the World Cup.

Look at 1982 final look at Paolo Rossi of 1982 World Cup who won the golden boot and scored a hat trick in the finals. You can not argue with it. Forlan in 2010, his five goals and three assists.

Even the CR7 Ballon D'or of 2013 was declared the highest goal scorer in a season in 2013. An astonishing 69 goals.

So what was the best Messi won to be the Golden ball winner? Nothing.
all these ronaldo fan boys sef! they are like an abused housewife who keeps coming back! 69 goals astonishing? what about 91 goals? lol. okay messi did not deserve the award, messi is not the best ever, messi is not greater than maradona. has ronaldo ever played in a world cup final? has ronaldo ever won a world cup medal? has ronaldo ever won a world cup bronze ball? no he cant. forget maradona, a new assignment for your 30 yr old ronaldo. at least this can make me sleep well at night.

thegoodjoehunt: I have never heard of a Golden Ball given because a player was the most important. It is what the player brought to the table.

By the way, Argentina had better individual talents than the Germans. The Argentine chose to make Messi the point of their game. I feel that has been the downfall Of this Argentine Generation since after the 2005 WYC. Messi must be the best player, not Argentina must win.

The Germans chose to play as a team, the Argentines chose to make Messi shine in a World cup.

James Rodriguez did more than Messi in Five games compared to Messi's seven games. Messi did not deserve it.
you again! you never tire? iam sure you didnt sleep well last nite because messi now has a world cup silver medal and a golden ball. james rodriguez did more and yet he went home in the quarter final, comparing him with messi who played in the final? so sad.

A40: Man of the Match against Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria? Make una apply perspective abeg

Argentina would probably not have made the Finals if it were down to their attack which Messi is a big part of. FACT

Shebi its now that creativity and not goals scored matter to yall ba
and switzerland! without messi, argentina would have gotten 1 point from bosnia. without messi argentina would have gotten 1 point from iran. (why? in both games he won them with the last kick of the ball). against nigeria, i cant tell. meaning they just might have faced france instead of switzerland and you know what the means, a probable second round exit. against switzerland, without messi they were destined to have a shootout but mascherano or lavezzi or any other argentina could never have made that run to set up angel. against belgium, he danced around 3 midfielders to draw space and set up angel again. against holland he beat kyut and vlar on the right side to set up maxi who had an easier job than gotze had last night but he blew it. if maxi had scored from that assist, messi would have been man of the match definitely! nowadays people like to talk mascherano; against iran nobody mentioned mascherano, against bosnia nobody, against nigeria nobody, against switzerland nobody, against belgium nobody, and then against holland for the first 80 mins nobody. with the match almost ending masch made a tackle to deny robben and all of a sudden mascherano became argentina's best player. some even go to the extent of saying masch was argentina's best player by a wide margin; for real? seriously people are taking for granted how much a feat it is to play in a world cup final, win or lose simply because messi is involved. messi and argentina must be celebrated. messi almost single handedly dragged his country to a world cup final, 7 mins more the story could have been very different. surely messi will no longer be regarded as a national team flop. like i said b4 only thomas muller deserved the golden ball ahead of messi. nobody else. however you do it, sweet or ugly, to make it to a world cup final you must be celebrated and honoured. ive never seen a team play in a world cup final and still be maligned. i have never seen a player captain a team to a world cup final as their captain and best player and still be criticised. messi has set the bar too high, that's the albatross around his neck.

James Rodriguez (Colombia), 6 goals, 2 assists

Thomas Müller (Germany), 5 goals, 3 assists

Lionel Messi (Argentina). 4 goals, 1 assist

**********

How is Messi the Golden Ball winner?

guy leave this messi matter alone o! Or you will catch a heart attack! So because mascherano mde that tackle against robben he automatically became argentina's best man? How maany of you mentioned mascherano before that tackle. If you insist mascherno was argentina's best player then that blunt must be too strong for you. You can't win the golden ball from the quarter final. Two-u keep mentioning goals and assists so how is it you rate robben above messi? Robben 3 goals messi 4 goals, robben semi final, messi final. They both failed to score in the knock out. Only muller could be put above messi in brazil 2014. Since it wasn't muller then messi it is. But don't worry by tomorrow the dust haze will settle and it will still go down in history as the golden ball winner 2014. Relax.

dmcdad: We can't always have it all, can we? I wonder how it was possible to get to the World Cup final with such mediocre players. Argentina should be proud of themselves for making this outstanding feat. As disappointing as it may seem that they didn't end up with the trophy, which is the ultimate goal of the World Cup. Yet, it should be noted that the Argentines gave their all till the last. And Messi? He may mever win the World Cup most likely, but that doesn't undermine the fact that he is and will always be arguably the greatest player that has ever graced the football pitch.

Sorry Argentina, sorry Messi. You did lose the war after winning so many battles, yet I would say affirmatively that it was an honourable loss. You lost with your heads up high. So many people did predict a whitewash, but were disappointed.

We can't always have everything we crave for in life. It's a reality we all need to embrace. Alfredo de Stefano didn't win the World Cup, infact he didn't play in one. Yet, he is recognised today as one of the greatest. And for many, he is the greatest. How about someone who played the World Cup, helped his team get to the final, and won the Golden Ball albeit not winning the ultimate price. I don't think that made him less greater than his rivals when it comes to declaring who the greatest of all-time is. Besides, who cares if he is crowned the greatest? It's relative afterall. For many, it's Maradona, for FIFA, it's Pelé, and for some others, Alfredo, and at this juncture, for a vast majority also, it's Messi. So you see? It's highly relative. But they have something in common, they are great players with extra - ordinary talents.

Long-live football.
Forcá Messi.
couldn't have spoken better. WORLD CUP- 6 matches in 4 years. Club football- 240 matches in 4 years. It's madness to suggest that a footballer's greatness is solely based on a world cup. Even if it were, with a world cup silver medal, a world cup golden ball, to go with the biggest success ever in the history of club football, messi is up there with pele and diego. The argies should be proud- a silver medal after 24 years.
