dmcdad: You are right... But I believe he can do anything if really he wants to. He plays the same way with Robben right? How come Robben still dazzles so well that you would think he us just a 24-year old footballer. Robben doesn't possess more dribbling skills than Messi, does he?
The major thing is that, Messi don't wanna be running any longer. And his moves goes with him having the ball at the helm of his feet (in motion). robben hardly faces bus parking teams. look at the world cup, robben always had acres of space to run into while messi was always having 8 players in front of him. the difference between them is that robben runs, and runs and runs, and the makes a quick turn and leaves his marker (which is always one person)for dead but messi runs in the midst of many and either scores or lays an exquisite pass. robben cannot run in the midst of 3, 4 or 5 defenders.people dont park the bus against against robben but they do against messi. |

franchizy: I have said it over and over that the FG should appologise to Boko haram, grant them Amnesty, compensate them, release all boko haram detainees, only then the bombings will stop. The Igbos and yorubas must as well appologise to the Northern Elders forum and stop pointing fingers on northerners as boko haram sponsors. Islam is a religion of peace. They don't kill nor shed blood. Boko Haram are not muslims. The Evil boys are all christans claiming to be muslims. Allah will expose them. ebdib: You don't know this for sure You don't know if he'll adapt to our high line You don't know if he's pacy enough You don't know if he'll work well with pique He's ageing man. That's always a negative. Always. thats why every signing is a gamble. all the doubts you raised above you never know for sure until your new man plays with the team. besides i assure you that jeremy mathieus is very pacy. about his age i agree with you and that was why i said that you dont pay 20 mil for a player who cant give you at least 4 years but at 30+, jeremy will give us 2 years. the mistake has been made, let us manage 2 years. |

iam overjoyed with this mathiues deal. the only snag is that we spent 20 mil but he can only put in 2 years, we should have paid like 8 mil but trust me the guy is good. he will serve us very well for 2 years. by 2016 bartra can step in. |

philfearon: In my opinion,Mathieu is a better signing to Hummels.. 1)He wanted to come..That's the desire of someone who wants to give his all..He even went as far as pushing through the transfer..That is courage and dedication..But the reverse is the case with Hummels.. 2)Experience..Mathieu will bring experience to the back line..Pique is 27yrs whereas Hummels is 25yrs and Mathieu is 30yrs..Pique can't possibly be pleased to be receiving instructions from his junior both football-wise and otherwise..But he will listen to Mathieu... 3)Mathieu knows the league..no need for any adaptation and acclimatization again... 4) Hummels is over hyped..Subotic is actually Dortmunds defence Lynch pin!!!! My humble opinion your score! 4/4. very correct. |

very happy with the signing of jeremy mathieus. even though we shouldnt have paid more than 8 million! some say he's 31 but let's just wish him the best and hope he stays as strong as puyol, terry, abidal or jamie carragher who played very well at 33. he can put in 2 solid years and bartra replaces him, it's better than nothing. |

ElGuapo: Mate you're attaching a lot of importance to a secondary objective.
Only a club run by some brainless muppets would prioritise a single clash ahead of laurels.
I'd rather lose to my arch-rivals and go ahead to clinch the title than to pummel 'em just to finish with nothing - to hell with pride.
Madrid were busy basking in the euphoria of their UCL and Copa del rey titles while you lot were licking your wounds. Did the El Classico triumphs in any way fetch you millions? bro I think you are taking it too hard, lol. Barcelona fc were 1 wrongly disallowed messi goal (against athletico on the last day) away from winning the la liga. So on a perfect last day we should have won the title. Did you lot see Germany making gazillion of passes with nothing to show for it?
Make una save us this okpata and work on your season, Real Madrid are still out there to make life miserable for you lot - worry about 'em. gazillion passes with nothing to show for tiki taka? Lol. That is outrageous. 16 trophies in 5 seasons including 2 champions league titles, 5 la league titles, 1 fifa world cup, 1 european championship. Mcleo007: Don't mind the losers comparing his impact at the WC to Robben and Muller, while forgeting that Messi unlike the others played the AMF role. The closest contestant probably would have been Hames Rodriguez who lifted his country in the absence of the prolific Falcao. Robben played as a striker in a 2 man partnership with RVP while Muller had an interchanging role with Klose upfront as well. In which case, while Messi is the creator of goals/opportunities to score (which indeed he did), the other two are recipients of the balls and have an easier task to score.
Yesterday evening, i found myself in the company of some ignorant mofos who were still reeling on the golden ball ish. They brought up all sort of excuses to discredit Messi being worthy of the accolade. One even said, "Messi didn't sweat on the field like Robben... you no see as Robben de always ginger for ball", and i was like what the faackkk! Another claimed Thomas Muller scored 5 goals and was a handful for the Brazilians to cope with Imagine when a professional team is lined with a secondary school football team; what result would you expect? In theory, the German squad at the world cup is superior to every other team, and against a Brazilian team bereft of their two keyplayers were expected to progress- chances were put at 35-65. A team that lost Reus early on, lost Khedira at the last minute to the final game, and didnt finch! That tells the quality of the squad.
In defence of Messi: 1. Let it be clear to all, Messi did not play the role of striker, nor the false 9 he's accustomed to at club level. For the national team, he played as the only offensve midfielder (AMF)- No. 10 in a rigid formation of 4-2-3-1
2. Goals for Argentina was 8; Messi scored 4.
3. All of Messi's goals were scored in the group stage. Now, since when has it been a standard of measure to dissociate the importance of group stage activities in a tournament in another to ascertain the overall impact an individual put to the evolvement or otherwise of his team? After all, even the much praised Robben scored all three of his goals at the group stage as well; Muller scored just one more goal during the KO. Some teams peak/gel as a tournament progresses while others decline. Every game played in a tournament is as important as the next that is yet to be played. Every outcome influences the other game and results yet to come. It's a short tourney not a league cycle.
4. 3 of the goals scored by Messi were self-worked with exception of the first goal against Nigeria which was a rebound (a typical goal often scored by midfielders). The goals against Bosnia, Nigeria(the free kick) and Iran are class acts.
5. For a player in his position, an offensive midfileder, Messi made the most interception. The stats are there, and even the Big mouthed one, Moanrhino attested to that when he said, "Messi sacrificed himself for the team."
6. People compare Messi's impact at this world cup to Maradonna in 86. Now, that's laughable. Its like those secondary school debates on the topic, "our fore-fathers lived better lives than us". Comparing historic events that occurred over different timelines is erroneous. The proponents upon which the events can be verified are not empirical.
7. Mascherano and Romero may have been the most decisive players in the semi-final game, but had Messi not bailed them through the group stages, through the second round with his incisive pass that led to goal, would they have featured in the semis at all? No! This is not to discredit Masche or Romero, but to counter the poster claims that tend to rubbish Messi's overall impact on the account of both players' heroics on the night.
8. Messi created the most goal scoring chances in the entire tournament. Is it his fault that those chances weren't converted?
9. Had Argentina won the world cup, with Messi playing 'absolutely nothing of worth', and was given the award; would same people come out to castigate him?
10. Maradonna and Zidane scored in the KO stages of the 1986 and 2006 WCs respectively which were decisive for their teams to march on; is that fact a sufficient reason to discredit the goals scored by Messi at the group stages in 2014?
In all, I don't expect any one who doesn't agree with me to quote or make reference to what ive written here; i will not reply. This is the last i'll say on the issue. VERY WELL SAID. but to comment on point number 9- i tell you that even if messi and argentina had won the world cup thousands will still troop out to say that messi flopped in the world cup because he did not score in the knock out stages, if messi won the world cup scoring only in the second round thousands will troop out falling over themselves to say he flopped in the world cup because he did not score in the quarter final, then if messi won the world cup scoring only in the quarter final surely thousands will troop out saying messi flopped in the world cup because he did not score in the semi final, then if messi scored in the semi final only again thousands will troop out saying he was a world cup flop because he did not score in the final and then again if messi won the world cup and scored a goal in the final thousands will troop out saying that messi flopped because it was mascherano that had the highest number of tackles or that messi flopped because zidane scored 2 in his own final or they could tell you that messi was a world cup flop because tony kroos headed the ball backward for someone to score. afterall there would be no xavi and iniesta in an argentine shirt to 'carry' messi. |
