Ezemust:GEJ tried to right the wrong by; 1. refusing to organize the confab in the first instance until the duo of Okurounmu and Nwabueze mounted pressure on him to do so? 2. earlier on declaring repeatedly that he did not believe our problem was with the structure but with corruption which once conquered every other thing would just fall into place? 3. going to open the confab with a speech in which he advised the delegates to make 75% majority as their basis for consensus despite him being a PhD holder who therefore knew fully well that even the universal 66.67% for any democracy is difficult to attain? 4. succumbed to the classification of some very pivotal and front burner issues as no-go-areas? 5. declared that he would send the report of the confab to the National Assembly whose member would not want a change of status quo. Why not have sent the report to for a referendum among the very masses who demanded for the confab? 6. refused to allow each of the over 300 ethnic nationalities to freely choose their own delegate to the confab but insisted on having a presidency list by which he himself chose almost 50% of the delegates? 7. decided to choose delegates based on professional careers rather than based on ethnic nationalities whose disagreements and mutual suspicions over the years have led to the mess we are in? Is Nigeria's problem having anything to do with rivalry among professional groups or rather among ethnic nationalities? 8. made provision for party delegates despite knowing fully well that parties are not stake holders in any way as they represent no permanent interest owing to the fact that their membership compositions are always changing? If a party attended that confab and negotiates a position for its members who probably are more of one or two neighbouring regions at that moment and then the party later in future becomes more dominated by the tribes of another region owing to re-alignment, then what becomes of the earlier negotiations which just suited only the previous occupant tribes of that party? GEJ's confab was nothing but a time-buying mechanism. |
"What sort of silly questions are you asking now after over 45 years of the promised 3Rs by the FG? You think your silly propaganda can work? Never! Go worry about the misery of your people. And stop ranting about the Igbos. Igbos simply desire a separate existence from lazy ass-lickers, parasites, treasury looters, never-do-wells and imperialists. Let that fact sink fast." Several opportunities came for Igbos to free themselves and indeed the South from lazy ass lickers, parasites, treasury looters, never-do-wells and imperialists, but Igbos ignored all those opportunities because they too wanted a fraudulent one Nigeria which would offer them an opportunity to loot the treasury, parasitize on everyone else, lord it over others, etc. Was it not an Igbo man, Aguyi Ironsi, that centralized the treasury in pursuit of his intention to have every region's revenues in one single purse so as to make it easier for Igbos to loot every other region without necessarily going to contest elections in those other regions again, and also to afford them a bigger loot from a combined purse? If Aguyi Ironsi had successfully seen his unitary system through and established a perpetual Igbo control over the centre as he and Azikiwe planned in their fraudulent nationalist acclaim, would the Igbos have today been "desiring a separate existence from lazy ass-lickers, parasites, treasury looters, never-do-wells and imperialists"? Because you were beaten to your game and driven far away from the centre after you centralized the purse you suddenly realize you desire a separate existence from parasites, arse lickers, etc? Was there any separate existence better than the regional federalism which you dismantled in pursuit of your hidden and selfish agenda? Why would the FG implement the three Rs while you already claim that after the war you have recovered so fast that you have become the richest and have overtaken all other regions to their envy? You claim you've done the 3 Rs all by yourselves, so why ask the FG to do it for you again? |
omonnakoda:All the above referenced bible verses still have to do with the laws among Israelites themselves. They were not commands to Israelites to kill other peoples who did not worship their God. Where God promised such other nations would die, He (God) promised to kill them by Himself and did not mandate Israelites to do it for Him. And on such cases those other nations were slaughtered by God not because they did not believe in Israelites' God but because they offended the Israelites and God himself and refused to be remorseful. If God was killing them for the mere fact that they did not believe in Him, then He would have wiped all other nations off the earth leaving only the Israelites who believed in Him. The verses in which Jesus declared that he brought sword to the world to set people against one another is more figurative than literal just like many other Jesus' use of literary style in speaking. For example, the command to turn the other cheek as a response to a slap on one is not literal in application. It is only a hyperbole which Jesus employed to emphasize how slow to retaliation his followers should be. This is confirmed by the fact that when Jesus himself was later given a very dirty slap before the high priest Caiaphas he did not literally turn the other cheek for more but queried why he deserved such violent treatment and yet never retaliated. The Bible should be read between the lines by anyone who seeks the truth. |
abduljabbar4:Exodus 22:20 refers to only Israelites who worshipped another God and not non-Israelites. In fact just in the next verse the same God says, "Do not ill-treat foreigners (who definitely were worshipping other gods); remember that you were foreigners in Egypt". That tells you that it displeases God to see an Israelite worship another god while a He overlooks and even protects foreigner worshipping his god since he can't be blamed for his ignorance. But for the Israelite he has no excuse of being ignorant of the true God. Please read the verses before and after that portion so as to appreciate the context in which God was speaking to Moses there. |
Bryan37:Igbos started being killed in very large numbers in the North far before 1966/67 pogroms which Ojukwu claimed made him declare Biafra. A lot of Igbos were killed in 1945 and 1953 in the North. With these two ethnic cleansing against Igbos by Northerners one would not have expected Azikiwe to have later in 1960 forged an alliance with the same North at all no matter his earlier beef with Awolowo whose Yoruba people had never shed any single Igbo man's blood in the West prior to that time. Why did Zik cut his nose to spite his face? Was the need to avenge Awolowo's 'sin' against him more important and urgent than the need to have accepted Awolowo's offer thus prevent from rising to power the very people who had been slaughtering his own brothers and were definitely going to use such official power to further wreck carnage on his tribe which they already hated and did not pretend about it? How could a leader, in pursuit of personal vendetta, sacrifice the future and freedom of those he was leading and representing? Why could Ojukwu and Ironsi not declare Biafra as at when they were both still in power and had the ultimate wherewithal to do so knowing fully well that Igbo massacres had already started far before then? What sort of belief in one Nigeria was that? |
"There are other towns and cities with historical affiliation with the Yoruba people because they share one or more similarities together. Some of these cities and towns are Benin- City, Warri, Auchi, Okene, etc. The Yoruba is the main ethnic group in the States of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Kwara, Osun and Oyo as well as Edo and DELTA STATE, which UGBODU KINGDOM is one of them". This is the erroneous part of the write up. Yoruba is not an ethnic group in Edo State at all let alone it being a major one. The only Yoruba settlement that used to be in Edo State is a village called Imeri in Akoko-Edo, and it has since been carved into Ondo State to join its kit and kins during the 1991 states creation. No town or village has Yoruba as its mother tongue in Edo state. People only learn Yoruba in the parts that share boundary with Ondo for easy across-the-boundary-commercial-activities communication with the Ishua people of Ondo who as well learn the Languages of their neighbour Edo state villages for same commercial purpose. That does not make Ishua people to become Edos automatically. Likewise people who inhabit Edo State villages located close to Edo-Kogi boundary learn and speak Kogi Languages as fluently as their Kogi counterparts across the boundary learn and speak their own languages too all for trade communication. That does not mean one people have automatically become same as the other. Even in the extreme North East of Oshimili-North LGA of Delta State resides a village called Ebu whose people are purely Igala migrants across River Niger from the present Kogi state. They speak Igala and no other language, yet they are in the Igbo-speaking part of Delta. I don't think that automatically makes them Igbos. They are only Deltans but not Igbos. |
pazienza:Awolowo never sent Akintola to Ahmadu Bello. Please recall that Akintola had from 1957 already been a minister in a pseudo pre-independence government established by the colonial masters and headed by Balewa. Akintola therefore went to negotiate entirely on his own accord so as to remain in power as he knew that towing Awolowo's path of rejection of the North would have automatically relieved him of the ministerial position he was already used to and already enjoying. Moreover the mere fact that Awolowo still later on refused to bulge in the face of the proposal for Balewa to release him from prison in exchange for aligning his AG with NPC makes it clear that Akintola's visit to Ahmadu Bello did not receive Awolowo's approval. Thirdly, a honest Zik, on hearing that Awolowo had also sent Akintola to Ahmadu Bello, should have just placed a phone call to Awolowo to ask him if he was really behind Akintola on that. That is what the simplest courtesy and honesty demanded. Only a man already full of prejudice and hence seeking an excuse to nail a perceived foe would just believe such accusation from Ahmadu Bello without making a single attempt to find out the exact truth of the matter from the accused. Even God who knew and actually saw when Adam ate the fruit still asked Adam whether he had eaten the fruit. That is the principle of fair hearing which even the courts run by mortal men uphold. Why could Zik, a Christian, not just this honourable path before falling for Ahmadu Bello? Zik was not different from Portiphar who just bundled Joseph into prison on account of his licentious wife's accusation without hearing Joseph's side of the story. Only greed for power and a domination motive could have informed Zik's failure to let his Christian principles guide him in that delicate situation on which the entire future of Nigeria lay. Fourthly, if Awolowo actually played such double game for which Zik allegedly turned down his offer, then how come that just 4 years later the same Zik accepted to work with the same 'double-faced' Awolowo's AG in a coalition called UPGA aiming to oust Balewa? Why did Zik not again suspect that Awo might have once again sent another of his disciples to negotiate with Balewa while forging the UPGA coalition with him (Zik) at the same time? Why did Zik 'forget' that Awolowo was a green snake with two heads during the UPGA coalition proposal between the NCNC and Awolowo's AG? |
The mere fact that Igbos keep trying to force themselves on the SS even though the SS people themselves have consistently rejected the idea only means that Igbos are worse than colonialists. Why can't Igbos accept whatever the South-South peoples call themselves? Why trying to tell me whom I am? The mere fact that Ojukwu unilaterally and without consultation lumped the Southern-Eastern minorities with Igbos in his proposed Biafra does not make it eternally binding and can't hold the SS people if they claim they are no longer interested in having anything to do with Igbos. The mere fact that Edo/Delta formerly shared the Western Region with Yorubas did not make them Oduduwans. If Yorubas are not presently claiming that Edo/Delta people are Oduduwans, I keep wondering why Igbos keep claiming the people of Old Rivers and Old Cross River are Biafrans against their own will. I no dey again, na by force? Under circumstances that make the creation of the SS a commendable act the Igbos claim responsibility ...... I have seen such a post here....., but when the existence of the same SS becomes a minus for Igbo secessionist movement they claim it was created by Hausas and Yorubas to divide and rule Biafra. Anyone who disagrees with them over the SS/SE contraption is automatically a Yoruba person. Who is fooling who? Since Igbos now say that it was both Hausas and Yorubas that created SS for the purpose of divide and rule between Igbos and their "brothers" one would have logically expected Igbos to tag as Hausa/Yoruba anyone who disagrees with them, but they quickly tag such only Yorubas and forget the Hausa component. It shows Igbos really have nothing against Hausas whom they frequently claim are Islamic Jihadists but have everything against Yorubas. I also observed that Igbos believe Itsekiris, Urhobos and all other Delta State's tribes are not related to Edos but are related to Biafra and claim Edo is not part of the SS but part of Yorubas. This is the grandest self-delusion I have ever seen in any people. Even the Urhobos, Itsekiris, Isokos, etc all claim with their own mouths that they migrated from the ancient Benin Kingdom. In fact they have very similar cultures with Benin people and language elements similarity with Binis. Most tribes in Delta State don't regard the coronation ceremonies of their new Kings completed if representatives from Oba of Benin's Palace have not arrived to perform some rites for the occasion. In fact the Itsekiri's Olu of Warri refer to the Oba of Bini his father. I wonder why Igbos who claim Itsekiris are Biafrans are blind to the "Olu" (a Yoruba word) in the title of the Itsekiri leader? Even the traditional ruler of Urhobo towns all regard the Oba of Benin as their ancestor. It is even in most other parts of Edo State like Akoko-Edo, Owan and Etsako that not much allegiance or homage is paid to the Oba of Benin. I don't know why Igbos keep looking for alternate realities in their quest for self determination. |
I have come to the conclusion that Nigeria missed it when Azikiwe decided to team up with the North against the all-South alliance proposal by Awolowo. Had Azikiwe accepted that all-South alliance Nigeria would have developed rapidly and known so much peace that the January 1966 coup would not have been necessary and we would have been spared of all its ripple effects of mutual suspicion, political and military gangsterism, etc that have since then held us down till today. I have heard the excuse that it was Awolowo's "treachery" that pushed Zik into such a counterproductive decision of teaming up with the North. The proponents of this Awolowo's treachery theory have given two different accounts, namely; the simultaneous sending of Akintola to negotiate with Sarduana for alliance while he himself was reaching out to Zik for same; and the alleged 1954 cross-carpeting saga in the Western Region. However, that excuse, with these two instances given to substantiate it, does not make sense to me for the following reasons given under each heading: THE WESTERN REGION CROSS-CARPETING AS A BASIS FOR ZIK TO SEEK VENGEANCE LATER ON IN 1959 IN THE FORM OF TEAMING WITH THE NORTH. 1. The details of the Western Region Cross-carpeting saga show clearly that what happened was then in Ibadan was not really cross-carpeting (i.e. Inter-party defection) but a reallignment of parties. 2. The fact that Arthur Prest, an Urhobo man was the first to pitch tents with Awolowo's AG on the floor that day punctures the claim that Awolowo used tribalistic innuendoes to convince those who moved over to his side. An Urhobo person would be the last to be moved in support of a clearly and openly Yoruba-interest-based clarion call. 3. Azikiwe really had no business in seeking premiership of the Western Region as his own people back at home in the Eastern Region needed more whatever he thought he had in stall to offer the Western Region. Charity still begins from home. I wonder how tolerable the Easterners would have found it if any of Awolowo, Akintola, Ahmadu Bello, Okotie-Eboh, etc had suddenly moved over to the Eastern Region to scramble for premiership with the indegenes likes of Okpara, Ita Eyo, etc who had more stake and claim to premiership of that region than themselves. Even if Zik so believed in his own "one-Nigeria" slogan he should have rather gone back to the North where he was born and brought up to seek premiership against Ahmadu Bello. 4. Even if we concede, but without totally agreeing that Awolowo wronged Zik and therefore deserved Zik's vengeance, it is on record that even before Zik decided to give power over to the North in 1959 through the NPC-NCNC alliance, Ahmadu Bello had as far back as 1952 already claiming that the North was born to rule over and subdue the South totally. Why then did Zik ignore Ahmadu Bello's threat against the whole South and avenged Awo's personal "sin" against him by taking an action which he clearly knew and saw would subject and enslave every future Southerner to the leadership of Ahmadu Bello and his co-Northerners domination as we have till today? Innocent southerners who were not even born back then and were therefore never part of the Zik vs Awo rivalry have come to suffer the consequences of Zik's decision. Awolowo alone "offended" Zik, but rather than patiently look for an opportunity of vengeance that would affect Awolowo and Awolowo alone, Zik chose to sacrifice the future and freedom of innocent southerners.. Yorubas, Igbos, southern minorities.... and their unborn children just to get back at Awolowo. How wise was it for a man who called himself a leader to sacrifice the future and liberty of a whole people under his supposed care all in his pursuit of a personal vendetta? Was it the fault of all Southerners and innocent future Southern generations that Awolowo prevented him from clinching a premiership which he really did not deserve in principle? That was poor sense of judgment which definitely is not a quality of a good leader. 5. In the Western Region back then there were other non-Yoruba tribes like Akoko-Edos, Etsakos, Owans, Esans, Binis, Igbankes, Aniomas, Urhobos, Itsekiris, Isokos, Ijaws, etc. In a situation whereby the premiership would have to shift from Yorubas, common sense dictated that it should have fallen on one of these other non-Yoruba tribes in the Western Region who had more stake to their own Region's premiership than an Igbo man from an entirely different region however popular he might have been. So why did Zik believe these other tribes would not "cross-carpet" to get him, an intruder, out of their legitimate way. Who told Zik that they too were not interested and already battling with Yorubas for premiership for the purpose of using the position to develop their own localities like the Yorubas were doing? THE ACCUSATION THAT AWOLOWO DID A DISHONEST DOUBLE BARGAIN WITH BOTH NPC AND NCNC. 1. Awolowo could not have been the one who sent Akintola to Ahmadu Bello because even before 1959 Akintola was already a minister in the quasi- independence government set up by the colonial masters and headed by Balewa. Akintola was therefore already used to being in power and the enjoyment of the goodies and ego therein, and so he most likely went on his own to negotiate for himself so as to forestall a sudden change of his fortunes and status....... a doom which Awolowo's revulsion for the North would spell for him (Akintola) as the North, with its 132 MP seats seemed, to him, most likely to be in power eventually whether as North-East alliance or North-West alliance. 2. If Ahmadu Bello had suspected Awolowo's hand behind Akintola's visit for such a bargain, he was bold and blunt enough to have dialled Awolowo straight to confirm from him since it would have been strange to him to have Awolowo his arch rival behind such an offer. The fact that the blunt and no nonsense Ahmadu Bello did not contact Awolowo and never later publicly criticized Awolowo for making a surreptitious move to him can only mean that Akintola made it clear to him that he came on that visit entirely on his own accord. 3. If it was for the fear of Awo's treachery that Zik decided to dump him and go with Ahmadu Bello, then why did Zik allow his NCNC later in 1963/64 to merge with the same Awolowo's AG giving rise to the UPGA now aimed at dislodging the same Ahmadu Bello? Was it not still the same "treacherous" Awolowo that was still controlling the AG with which Zik sought the UPGA merger? Well, the fact that Awolowo instructed his disciples to join Zik in UPGA meant he forgave Zik right from inside prison while still serving the jail term Zik put him into in collusion with the North. Could such a forgiveness be in the character of a treacherous person? With all these I believe that Zik was just an individual who was blinded by his quest for some fabulous "one Nigeria" which led him into several mistakes that ruined the entire South today. The Awolowo treachery theory is not as important as Zik's incurable obsession with "one Nigeria" in explaining why he sold the South into perpetual Northern domination. |
Ribadu is not an asset to any political party. While still gladly acting out the script of OBJ/PDP by chasing only OBJ's enemies for unsubstantiated corruption allegations he once stood before a cross-section of Nigerians in the USA and declared that the newly formed AC back then was an Alliance for Corruption composed chiefly of corrupt politicians sent out of PDP by OBJ. But after PDP finished using him and dumped him, used Okiro to humiliate him at his supposed graduation from NIPPS, and finally hounded him into exile after an assassination attempt on his life, Ribadu began to shift sides from PDP. But just four years later Ribadu was granted pardon and had his court cases of corruption quashed all by GEJ. But before anyone knew it Ribadu accepted the ticket as presidential candidate for the same party he claimed was an Alliance for Corruption and implicitly denied ever accusing Tinubu of corruption. Ribadu went on to campaign with insults against the same GEJ who set him free from exile in the first instance. But after losing in the 2011 election he stayed behind in ACN until PDP tantalizingly dangled bforee him the Adamawa governorship ticket which he fell for without any restraint or internal debate. However his miscalculation soon became evident as his hopes were dashed by the tsunami that rejected PDP in Adamawa. Only he knows why he is on his way back to APC now. |
