Every project no matter how small requires the contribution of a geologist. What does a geotechnical know about the subsurface
A geotechnical engineer is not concerned with mineral resources or forms of earth formation. Its main concern is compression strength of soil about the targeted area to situate structure whether subterranean or not.

There you are! I bet you. Geologist don't design structures, but geologists know the strenght/bearing capacities on which most engineering loads are placed. Without adequate subsoil investigation, i bet yuo the building will collapse. most people see what is happening at the surface but they never bothered to to know wat is happening within. Differential settlement due to weak laters causes shrinking hence collpase.

besides must of the material use especially granite are rech in weak minerals which easily weathers hence having very low shear strenght. indepth analysis of this and many more are the major cause of nigeria's under development. we seems to seen things at the outside not bothering about what is actually happening inside.

Until subsurface is taken to be important. we will continue to get it all wrong in the built industry cry cry cry
I can go on and on. I bet you are wrong on this one. grin grin grin
If you are dealing with mining of gold, cool, silver, crude oil or the study of earth formation, you can seek the help of geologist. As for strength and quality of soil to situate a structure, all you need is geotechnical (Civil Engineer) who has to conduct the study of soil sample including the compression strength of compacted quantity.
Politics › Re: Why Is There A Lack In Philosophical Thoughts In Nigeria And Africa? by Dede1(m): 2:23pm On Jul 11, 2011
@OP

The same demented Africans who sold their thinking souls to the philosophies of Europeans, Asians and Americans will be the first to point accusing fingers of lack of philosophical thought processes on Africans.

This “Mr—Why Not” had previously indicted Africans on “lack of critical thinking” in another post and now he or she has hooked up on philosophy or lack thereof.

Mr—Why Not, you are a miserable goon.

It is a ranting of overfed rats. Until Port Harcourt is made federal capital city of Nigeria and turned into statehood, it is idiotic attempt to compare Lagos State and Rivers State or any other state in the federation for that matter. Even with time and fund federal government has spent on Lagos State, scenes of flooded streets and neighborhoods are damnable indictment of Fashiola.

the edo people call dreads agbiyagha and not that im an expert on benin art but i think the edo man on the left is wearing short dreads, and dreads were not worn for fashion statements but for spiritual and religious purposes.
You were short on your response for what I should term as being politically correct. I guess we shall maintain that the so-called dreadlocks were worn for spiritual reasons.

About 4 professions are involved in the construction of civil engineering structures such as buildings, bridges, roads and platforms. these include but not limited to

1. Geologists (for not making themselves relevant enough in the built industry)

2. Civil engineers (for believing that they''too'' know about the subsurface as well and tendencies to pocket the whole money

3. Builders who think they cant be controlled and not ready to take advice from civil engineers

4. Geotechnical engineers who, like geologist, are not well known and are always in the background

5. Government policies and ignorance

Please try as much as possible to make a meaningful contribution and no name calling please!!! cool cool
You got it all wrong. You started on the left field with geologist. I doubt if geologist designs or builds anything. Civil (structural, geotechnical, transport and water), Mechanical and Electrical engineers design according to universal or individual specifications. Most of the structural flaws or failures are due to contractors and field technicians who are bent on maximizing profit by using counterfeited materials.

The so-called Oloza and his fellow moro.ns in Ugbodu or Ugbodumila should not be unhappy with the seemingly Igbo language interference in their lives, they should simply park their luggage and relocate to Owo/Akure axis in Ondo State. If they do not leave in peace, time shall come when they had to leave in pieces.
Abagworo want go grab another man land for Delta. He's using Yoruba story as "bojuboju" (camouflage) to hide the true intent of why his attention is on these people land.

Igbo is an endangered tribe on the verge of dying off, culturally and geographically. They need population boost, quick and fast.

More importantly, they are re awakening Biafra and need land and reinforcement in population. So they have been on this aggressive campaign harassing people and forcing them to admit igboid ancestry.

Land grab madness!!
You are unimaginatively daft.

what a senseless post from dede1 bravo

crude oil is found in lagos and as i can remember onado gets this so the SW does not only have cocoa
or u think the SS would allow Onado to drill there oil
I had expected an observant farm-hand such as you to understand the sources of certain minerals from the acreage called Nigeria. You could not understand simple social studies on Nigeria and still had the effrontery to “moonshine” with GMO or GME issues. What else could be said about a loafer whose moniker is alj_harem and a renowned shepherd of almajiri. By the way, I know comprehension has never being your strong forte

I can not fault the SE politicians when longing for the chairmanship of PDP. It is all about democracy and its prevailing principles. However, it will amount to emptiness if such craved positions failed to negotiate tangible political patronages toward the masses of the geopolitical region. I careless about the Nigerian presidency but could not say same to positions that would bring needed social amenities to the region.

The SE geopolitical region has produced political stalwarts and yet the eastern region can not boost of international gateway to the world such international airport in the same class with MMA and NAA. It is shame the defunct northern and western regions could point at Abuja and Lagos as renowned cities in the world and no such city is found in the defunct eastern region which has produced most of the golden geese. This damned indictment goes also to the professed ignorant minorities in the defunct easterner region.

I detest flying into Lagos or Abuja and would not want to ship through the seaports in Lagos or Warri. I do not care where the real international airport and functional seaport are situated in the former eastern region as long as travel time to my final destination is hassle-free
Golden geese? Example please,
Take a very good look at yourself, particularly at the waist region of your twisted anatomy and ask how could a region with cocoa and kola nut as cash crops sustain the supply of petroleum jelly needed to keep you alive.
