Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Mr. Isaiah Balat, has dismissed claims by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, that Southern Kaduna had gained nothing for supporting the PDP since 1999. Balat made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in a telephone interview in Jos on Sunday. He said, “That claim is simply laughable because the area has witnessed lots of infrastructural growth as well as the appointment and election of its people into key positions. “In fact, our people have never had it so good; the dividends are glaring no matter which indices you use. The resolve to support PDP is even stronger now than ever.’’ Buhari had, at meeting of the yet-to-be-registered All progressive Congress in Kagoro, near Kafanchan, dismissed the PDP as “a colony of deceivers’’, and advised the people to join the APC. Former FCT minister Nasir el-Rufai; Kaduna military governor, Brig. Lawal Isa (retd.); and ex-Chief of Naval Staff, Ibrahim Iko, also criticised the PDP, and advised the people to join the APC. Balat, a former Minister of State for Works and Housing, in a reaction, said the criticisms by Buhari and others were “figment of their imaginations’’. He added, “Our people know the state of their roads from Kaduna-Gimi, Saminaka-Kafanchan, Kagoro-Jos, and many others before 1999. “They also know how large rivers separated communities, especially Bondong and Chawai, because there are no bridges. They can compare then and now. “Aside the infrastructure, it is in the PDP governments that we have had our people rising to the pinnacle of their chosen fields. “Our sons and daughters have risen to become Chiefs of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Naval Staff. The incumbent Group Managing Director of the NNPC is also our son. “And don’t forget that we also produced an elected governor. “The PDP-led Federal Government has also provided the multi-billion dollar Gurara Dam that has ensured thousands of hectares of land for irrigation aside electricity and drinking water for the immediate environment and the FCT. “The average Southern Kaduna has never asked for unmerited favour.” He described the allegations that PDP had taken the area for granted as false and untenable, pointing out that every community had gained from the PDP government in one way or the other. Balat said that Buhari was the “least qualified’’ to allege any neglect of the area. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2013/06/jonathans-aide-faults-buhari-on.html?utm_source=NigerianEye&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Nigerianeye+%28NigerianEye%29 |

According to PremierLeague.com, Jose Mourinho is back at Chelsea after an almost six-year absence Jose Mourinho has returned to Stamford Bridge after agreeing to take over as Chelsea manager for the second time. Mourinho, who has twice won the UEFA Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, has won three league titles since leaving Chelsea in September 2007, guiding Inter to two Serie A triumphs and winning La Liga at Real Madrid, where he has been in charge for the last three seasons. Mourinho first took over at Chelsea on 2 June 2004 and in his inaugural campaign the Blues romped to their first domestic title in 50 years with a record Premier League points haul of 95 and an as yet unsurpassed defensive record of only 15 goals conceded. The Blues also won the League Cup that season and reached the last four of the Champions League for the second year in a row. The following campaign Chelsea successfully defended their title Barclays Premier League title. In his last full season at the club Mourinho helped Chelsea achieve a cup double as the Blues lifted both the FA Cup and the League Cup. He left Stamford Bridge in September 2007. InvertedHammer: /Corruption is crime to humanity, so I wil not indulge in it... |
ABUJA—FORMER Senate President, Ken Nnamani, yesterday, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to declare a state of emergency on corruption, if that will address the problem. He also said if corruption, which is one of Nigeria’s major problems must be nipped in the bud, especially as it affected award of contracts, attention must be paid to Public Private Partnership, PPP. Speaking when he appeared before the Senator Ayogu Eze-led Senate Committee on Works, Senator Nnamani noted that $8 trillion was currently what the private sector in the world was controlling, adding that it was only the private sector that ccould control corruption. According to him, it is not business as usual in the private sector, as private investors monitor their businesses. He added that First Bank Plc, a private sector driven organisation, had a balance sheet that was more than the nation’s budget. Nnamani was at the Senate with other designated members of the governing board of the Infrastructure Concession and Regulatory Commission, ICRC. The former Senate President is the chairman of the board of ICRC. The former Senate President, who told the senators that he was coming to the National Assembly for the first time since 2007, was, however, not asked any question by the senators, in line with the National Assembly’s procedures of asking former lawmakers to simply take a bow and go. Earlier, Chairman of the Committee, Senator Ayogu Eze, PDP, Enugu, said it was not the intention of the Senate to allow Nnamani stay for more than two minutes, adding that the Senate was contemplating whether to invite him and take a bow. He added that Nnamani was not summoned, but expected to have a handshake with the senators and take a bow. Other members of the Board are Barrister Aminu Dikko; Mrs Comfort Ken Saro Wiwa; Engr. Janet Febisola Adeyemi; Mrs Yabawa Wabi; Musa Elayo and Barrister A.U. Kanu http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/05/nnamani-to-jonathan-declare-state-of-emergency-on-corruption/ |

Okojie warned that no certificate received from any of these institutions would be recognised for either employment or otherwise. ‘We do not call them degree awarding institutions, we call them degree mills and we have been warning the public against patronising them because whoever does that does it at his or her own risk’, he said. Okojie disclosed that the list was not exhaustive, adding that the proprietors of these illegal universities, had continued to operate underground, deceiving the ignorant citizens and collecting their hard earned money |
