Thanks for all the wonderful comments on this thread. Im really enjoying myself. I've been watching from the sidelines; it's now time for me to comment, hence this.

I used to be a dedicated tither. Became born again in the mid 90s, tutored in the Deeper Life way ( not necessarily Christ's way)....Tithe is a cardinal doctrine of the DLBC.

Oh course, after 13 years, I left. I currently worship with the RCCG.

A few months ago, I had become angry with the undue emphasis given by our pastors on tithe, hence I dispassionately delved into the study.

After careful study, I was both shocked and angry. We have NO business tithing, especially from a legalistic point of view. I have no business with a believer willingly giving a percentage or all of his income to God.

Today, instead of buying more jets for our MOGs ,I give more to the widows and poor ones in my local assembly. My joy knows no bounds.

This personal study, plus the awesome expositions done here by people like PastorKun, Frosbel and others, I know the Tithe arrangement na full time scam!

The firstfruits doctrine is even a bigger scam.....

As usual, I expect Nigerians to insult the messenger instead of pondering the message.

However, like most people above me have said, awareness is the key. The poor see kids as their consolation for poverty.

I don't think Nigerians hate the US. A quick visit to the US embassies across the Nigeria will confirm my stance. Besides, it makes no sense why Nigerians should hate the US. There are thousands of Nigerians in the US as we speak.

As per the US refusing to sell arms to us, please google LEAHY LAW. It's a US human rights law that prohibits the US sales of weapons to the armed forces of nations billed as notorious human right abusers. Our military hasn't scored well in that regard. At least, this is one reason for their refusal. I'm not privy to other reasons for their refusal.

Also, it's worth knowing that the US has stopped buying our sweet crude. The night is gradually arriving on us. We're going to pay for our decades of corruption and lack of vision.

I love the US. And I'm planning to take my family for a holiday there in the coming years.

As usual, blaming others for our woes.

there's nobody here who can categorily state wen d dispensation of d law began.
Neither can you guys prove scripturally, tht tithing was handed down thru the law so the response is just reflexive defenses to keep tht money in.
Its a psychological mechanism to justify a behaviour.

If a large pool of members pay tithe, you know the church coffers will run into huge amounts.
How do most churches use this monies? Usually embezzle em,like judas, but how the money is used or misused doesnt justify disobedience.
If the pastor wants to buy 10 jets ,thts his own, you're own is to obey God to whom you'll give account at d end of the day.
This is d cold hard truth.
An alternative is to change churches.
Adam tried to justify his disobedience by blaming his wife, tht didnt cut it with God.

I don't even tithe. ......I'm a Christian, and I won't stand the Great White Throne judgment.

I simply give cheerfully.

U just strengthened my stance that tithing belongs to the Old Testament.

I thank God for the Bible.
