Good morning, my people. It's my pleasure to meet with you here this morning. There's this senior colleague of mine in the office. She most times doesn't come to work that early. And then after arriving late, she will spend minutes praying and studying the Bible instead of doing the job she's paid to do.
Oftentimes, she almost spend the better part of the day doing religious activities.
I'm deeply saddened by this attitude of hers. But how do make her see this is wrong, knowing she's my superior in the office?
Please advise me. Thanks. |

babyosisi: That is foolish argument How my contributions to my church are managed is my business I didn't place in Christ's hands,my pastor has it Some churches here in the USA have business meetings and the account is laid bare for every member to see and that is wise They have a board and carry out audits of the account It is my money and I have a right to stop putting my funds in there and channel it elsewhere if it is not being used appropriately No intelligent person would fall for that nonsensical argument anymore, people are no fools You don't tell me my reward is in heaven when you are here collecting yours and also waiting on heaven If I don't see the practical things you are doing with my money,I would be foolish to keep giving it when there are others that could use it well. I won't wait to get to heaven to find out when my pastor is here on earth with me demanding tithes
People need to begin to hold their pastors accountable If it doesn't look right, you must demand transparency in the use of the funds or you go elsewhere or keep your money for other uses That is the only way they will stop taking advantage of folks That was indeed a very foolish comment. How on earth can someone in his right senses say it'snot my bbusiness what's done with my money? Our version of Christianity is indeed very strange and disturbing. Exactly the same way we have shown indifference to the political thieves, hence the backwardness and corruption we are mired in; we are also bearing the sad consequences of that political indifference. I have every right to know what happens to my money. I don't swallow that nonsense anymore; that was done. Long then. So much of the cash we gave foolishly weren't used for the purpose they were meant. I no longer serve God in foolishness. The Bible is clear. |

waldigit: My take on tithe things is this. There is nothing bad about Tithing even if we all agree to it being scriptural or not, since it is part of giving. The law of seed and harvest is universal. The bible promised that believers will lend to nation but today we see pple who are giving to nations. Bill Ghates, Mark of facebook etc. The real issue is the way we develop rich christian empire in a poor and retrogressing country. If the church want to earn enough respect we need to go back to the vision of missionary that brought faith to us. Men of God need to show modesty in fragrance display of their wealth in the public by being conscious that there is so much poverty around them. Apostle Paul stressed this point 1Corinth.10:23-24 Church need to focus on societal wealth instead individual wealth. Infact church should take over the social work from this disaster we call government. This is the way our righteousness can be more than that of pharisees. We should be conscious that unbelivers are building better country than ours, this should be our challenge in Nigeria if we as church want to remain relevant. Thanks for the above post. Infact I need to see you in person and give you a warm handshake. You've said it all. The Church needs to do more. Enough of all these public show of stupendous wealth and pomp; none is following us to the grave. We need to create something close to the Heaven we all are heading in the hereafter. |

frosbel: Pastors are planning a major robbery in the churches this January.
There are certain months of the year referred to as the “ember” months. These comprise those months which, in the English language, end with “ember.” They are September, October, November and December. You will notice already that, strictly-speaking, October does not fit the bill; otherwise it would have been called “Octoember.” But never mind, it is still included in the “ember” months.
One thing however is without controversy about these last four months of the year. In those months, there is a definite change of emphasis in the messages preached by many pastors.
Thieves and robbers
In the “ember” months, pastors start to preach about “first-fruits,” laying down the foundation for a major robbery routinely planned for the month of January. In our selective use of Old Testament scriptures, we start to remind church-members that the first-fruits of every harvest must be given to us.
Never mind that in the New Testament, the harvest is now the harvest of souls and believers themselves are the first-fruits. Never mind that even in the Old Testament, God was only interested in agricultural products. Today, all that pastors are interested in now is money, money, money; for “money answers all things.”
If we teach this “godliness” as effectively as we should, we can make all the money we need for the year between February and March. The first-fruits scam requires all church-goers to hand over to us, their pastors, not just a tenth, but their entire January salaries. It used to be the case that the first-fruits were defined as a Christian’s first salary after leaving school and securing gainful employment. But some of us soon realised that this only gives us the right to a man’s entire salary once in a lifetime. So we have become more ingenious in coming up with new, more financially lucrative, biblical revelations. Many pastors now insist that since the January salary is the first salary in the year, legally it falls under the definition of first-fruits.
Just do the math. Imagine a situation where the pastor gets the January salary not only from twelve members of his congregation, but from all of them. Depending on the size of his church, he can get in one bonanza enough money to last him a lifetime. Is it any wonder, therefore, that pastors are very zealous in preaching about first-fruits in the “ember” months?
Many even refuse to be limited to their churches. Turn onto Christian television such as the Trinity Broadcasting Network in the “ember” months, and you are likely to find Paula White and Steve Munsey extolling the blessings of giving first-fruits. Of course, the first-fruits must be sent to them and to no one else.
Sour grapes
Kingsley Akenzua told me a story pregnant with meaning. In one of Nigeria’s big churches with a large branch-network, the pastors were making a killing collecting first-fruits. But one of them used the money to put up a church building. This went a long way to endear him to his congregants. Members of the other parishes started comparing him favourably to the other pastors who had nothing to show for the first-fruits they collected. Those pastors became concerned that the pastor who put up the building would soon bring the entire first-fruits scam into disrepute. So they decided to take “appropriate” action.
They reported the “erring” pastor to the General Overseer of the church. His transgression was that he put up an entire church building single-handedly. So doing, they claimed, he was being greedy. He was determined to monopolise the spiritual blessings that come from putting up the building. He prevented others from getting blessed by not taking contributions from them. The General Overseer wondered where he got the money to erect the entire building by himself. So they told him the money came from the first-fruits he collected from his church-members.
Comeuppance
The General Overseer became even more curious. Just how much first-fruits were the pastors under him collecting? He decided to investigate. When he did, he was astonished at the sums involved. It was unthinkable that such lucrative business was taking place in his church without due consideration for his position. The General Overseer fired a memo to all the parishes under him: henceforth, all first-fruits collected must be forwarded intact to headquarters.
However, his memo did not exactly have the desired effect. Thereafter, the pastors in that particular church noticeably lost interest in preaching about first-fruits in the “ember” months.

babyosisi: I challenge anyone reading to do this,I wrote it earlier Seek out some very poor families you know in your church and divide that your tithe money into 4 ,give 3 parts to each of that family and the 4th part to your church. The fulfillment of helping those families is unequaled That your money may be what they have been praying for to enable them eat that whole week You don't have to pray to know the poor people in your midst, you can see them with your eyes. The Church is not giving them a dime from what they collect It is you and I that are supposed to support them
Pure religion undefiled the Bible says,is to visit the widows and orphans in their affliction and to keep our garments spotless It is not enriching an already rich pastor Thanks, my dear. You're not alone. A tiny group of us have already started towing that part. God doesn't need my money; the poor do. Remember what Jesus said? As long as ye have done it to one of these, ye have done it to Me. |

StarBoard: You and I know that is VERY WRONG. That is one of the plethora of reasons I left.
What about the needs of the local parish? Isnt it selfish to collect and send to km 46? Is it not immoral to claim that you are establishing parishes when it is obvious that the structures are being built by the congregstion?
What is being done with the several millions thay come in every sunday through tithes and offerings? How come they are not even used to sort the immediate needs of the parish, let alone the needy in the parish?
I think there is some serious deception going on in the area of finances. If the original poster thinks that I won't ask questions about my money all because some charlatan is involved, then this thread is dead on arrival. This madly flawed administrative method is also going to be one of the reasons I'm considering leaving the RCCG. It's all hurtful and backward. Come and see the financial struggle we're experiencing in my parish! We almost singlehandedly bought the land we are on, we're still building after more than 4 years, bought all the musical instruments, etc. The most painful part is, even when we got almost nothing from the Province, we still remit about 85 % of our monthly income to the Province. This is callous. The men in my parish are already asking the right questions. We keep building KM 46 while our local members and pastors are hungry, poor and sad. They barely live decent lives. I wish to talk more....It's really depressing. But for the personal revelations given to me by Christ, I would have stopped attending any Church. I'm becoming increasingly disillusioned with the whole arrangements. ... |

StarBoard: hahaha. it gets even better with this lady.
Just one point of note:the pastors do not even have the right to levy the congregation. Firstly it is the duty of the pastor to look after the flock as Jesus commanded Peter to after his resurrection. Paul wrote that let everyone give according to what he has determined as God loves a cheerful giver. So giving any kind of portion is plain wrong by me. I think that these so called Pastors have filled themselves with all other things except the Holy Spirit hence they resort to man-made methods such as this tithe scam through coercion and intimidation to provide for the ministry. I look at the parallels between Christ's ministry where they seemed to have just about enough to the point where he didnt have a place to lay his head and today's pentecostal movement where pastors own several properties and jets and the like. It only goes to show that today, the main thing is mammon and more mammon. As you have highlighted these people haave been dishonest to the point where theyfeel it is pertinent to demand from their congregation and good portion of the proceeds is used on other things not related to running the church or parish as it were. Case in point: I used to worship in a parish in RCCG. if you know they church they have this zonal arrangement. the zone in which my parish belongs deemed it fit to get a plot of land near the zonal hq. Guess where funding was going to come from?Your guess is as good as mine. The congregation in that zone was going to raise the cash. Now they came with the usual strategy sharing slips for those interested. In my mind I was asking what the tithes and offering that have been collected sunday after sunday (in the case of my parish two services) have been used for. This should have been a decent opportunity to put it to use assuming that the project was necessary. Thanks for the inputs so far. The RCCG administration is really flawed. I do worship there ATM. Almost everything gathered from the local parishes are forwarded to KM 46. Hence there's little or nothing left to handle local projects like land, building or equipment. Almost everything is forwarded to KM 46. |
