Thomas Cook is dead and 150,000 UK holidaymakers are stranded Lianna Brinded,Yahoo Finance UK It has immediately ceased to trade, leading to 150,000 UK holidaymakers stranded abroad and the biggest ever peacetime repatriation of British people. “Thomas Cook’s collapse is very sad news for staff and holidaymakers. The government and UK CAA is working round the clock to help people. Our contingency planning has helped acquire planes from across the world – some from as far away as Malaysia – and we have put hundreds of people in call centres and at airports,” said transport secretary, Grant Shapps. “But the task is enormous, the biggest peacetime repatriation in UK history. So, there are bound to be problems and delays. Please try to be understanding with the staff who are trying to assist in what is likely to be a very difficult time for them as well.” Thomas Cook said in a statement on Monday that the group failed to secure more cash it needed to stay alive and now the firm has entered compulsory liquidation. The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) confirmed Thomas Cook has "ceased trading with immediate effect. Fankhauser also apologised to “our millions of customers, and thousands of employees, suppliers and partners who have supported us for many years.” “Despite huge uncertainty over recent weeks, our teams continued to put customers first, showing why Thomas Cook is one of the best-loved brands in travel,” he added. The collapse of the tour operator has put 22,000 jobs from around the world at risk, of which 9,000 are in the UK. Where it went wrong Thomas Cook has encountered a range of issues over the last year, leading to job cuts and store closures. The travel group also put its airline business up for sale after a heat-wave in northern Europe last summer put holidaymakers off last-minute deals. This led to a number of profit warnings. Thomas Cook warned earlier this year that the European travel market has become "progressively more challenging," which has led to a dent in its finances and has made it difficult to sell its tour business. This is when it entered talks with banks and Fosun – its largest shareholder. Meanwhile, it ran up debts of £1.2bn ($1.48m) and made a first half loss of £1.5bn as it battled a weak bookings market and asset https://ca.yahoo.com/finance/news/thomas-cook-is-dead-and-150000-uk-holidaymakers-are-stranded-055724041.html

9jatriot:Thanks. I'm hoping CBN should review the entire policy in its entirety. Banks should be more focused on getting out Loans to borrowers and make their profit on the interest. This policy has the potential of making people to start hoarding cash in their house and refusal to take it to the bank and other effects too. |
9jatriot:For example a lace seller at Balogun market or a medium supermarket will make sales in excess of N500K a day. |
Engage her in open affection. Commend her, shower her with love and affection openly, especially among friends and family members. Renew your wedding vows and celebrate your marriage anniversary every year. Make a big deal out of the wedding anniversary. Never take her or her oppinion for granted. This would do the magic Thank me later. |
Imagine if the CBN Gov had been from Kano state and the recipients of this gesture are from Katsina state. Children of hate and anger would have been crying Nepotism, Northern Agenda etc. Is this a Southern Agenda? |

Breaking: FG installs machines for pencil production in Enugu ON AUGUST 31, 2019 BY NWAFOR The Federal Government has commenced the installation of equipment and machines for the proposed pencil factory at the Projects Development Institute (PRODA), Enugu. A Pencil production plant as Nigeria’s government set to commence local production The Chairman, Governing Board of PRODA, Mr Daniel Onjeh, disclosed this on Friday in Enugu while briefing newsmen on the activities of the institute. Onjeh said that the PRODA school pencil project was a flagship and the first of such production facility in West Africa. He said that the factory would be producing a minimum of 15 million pencils per annum, when completed. He said that the institute was working towards using local content, adding it had also diversified into the use of waste paper for its production. Onjeh said: “The project is aimed at 100 per cent local content, including graphite, clay, wood and waste paper. “We are expecting experts from China in October to install the machines that will produce pencils with waste paper. “Pencils are in high demand, which is why we are emphasising pencil production. “The pencil factory will create employment and also support the economic polices of the federal government.” Onjeh further said that pencil production was not an easy venture, pointing out that getting a modern standard pencil involved about 125 steps. He said that the test run of the machines would be done before the end of the year. He expressed joy that PRODA had been fully revived, saying that the board was committed to moving the agency forward. “One of the projects, which we are keenly seeing to completion is the Round House Project, which is the main edifice of the institute. The board chairman commended the federal government for the increase in the budgetary allocations to the institute which, he said, had made their work easier. “We noticed a remarkable increase in the funds allocated to the agency in the 2018 and 2019 budgets and we look forward to progressive increment in the coming years,” he said. Onjeh said that the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, and the National Assembly were instrumental to the progress so far made by the institute. Italian oil major makes huge gas discovery in Nigeria Published August 27, 2019 ‘Femi Asu An Italian oil major, Eni, has said that it has made a huge gas and condensate discovery onshore Niger Delta. Eni said on Tuesday that through its affiliate, Nigerian Agip Oil Company, it made a significant gas and condensate find in the deeper sequences of the Obiafu-Obrikom fields, in Oil Mining Lease 61. It said the Obiafu-41 deep well had reached a total depth of 4.374 m, encountering an important gas and condensate accumulation within the deltaic sequence of Oligocene age comprising more than 130m of high-quality hydrocarbon-bearing sands. “The find amounts to about one trillion cubic feet of gas and 60 million barrels of associated condensate in the deep drilled sequences,” Eni said in a statement. It said, “The well can deliver in excess of 100 million standard cubic feet/day of gas and 3,000 barrels/day of associated condensates, and will be immediately put on-stream to increase NAOC’s gas production. “The discovery is part of a drilling campaign planned by NAOC JV and aimed at exploring near-field and deep pool opportunities as immediate time to market opportunities.” According to the statement, Eni has been present in Nigeria since 1962, with operated and non-operated production, development and exploration activities on a total of 30,049 square kilometres in the onshore and offshore areas of the Niger Delta. In 2018, Eni’s equity hydrocarbon production amounted to 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, it added. https://punchng.com/just-in-italian-oil-major-makes-huge-gas-discovery-in-nigeria/
