Timothy Ngwu who is the general overseer of the Vineyard Ministry of the Holy Trinity was arrested by officers of the Enugu state Police Command. Daily Independent reports that Ngwu claimed that the Holy Spirit had commanded him to impregnate as many female members of the church as possible. Speaking on the incident, the Enugu state Police spokesperson, Ebere Amaraizu said the pastor had been charged for sexual abuse. Sources privy to the incident said Ngwu said the Holy spirit had given him the mandate to impregnate women in his ministry irrespective of their marital status. The source also said that the child delivered by every woman impregnated by the pastor is expected to remain in the ministry with the mother for life. However, trouble started for Ngwu after his wife reported his randy behaviour to the police after the pastor was alleged to have impregnated her (his wife's) young niece all in the name of obeying a ‘divine instruction’. Speaking on his arrested, Ngwu who is said to have five wives with 13 children along with other concubines said he never had canal knowledge of the young girl. Ngwu (in yellow shirt) said the Holy spirit had given him the mandate to impregnate women in his ministry irrespective of their marital status. Osinbajo is right Nigerians living in poverty rise to nearly 61% 13 February 2012 Absolute poverty is measured by those who can afford only the bare essentials Nigeria - Troubled Giant Poverty has risen in Nigeria, with almost 100 million people living on less than a $1 (£0.63) a day, despite economic growth, statistics have shown. The National Bureau of Statistics said 60.9% of Nigerians in 2010 were living in "absolute poverty" - this figure had risen from 54.7% in 2004. The bureau predicted this rising trend was likely to continue. Nigeria is Africa's biggest oil producer but the sector has been tainted by accusations of corruption. According to the report, absolute poverty is measured by the number of people who can afford only the bare essentials of shelter, food and clothing. North-south divide The NBS, a government agency, said there was a paradox at the heart of Nigeria as the economy was going from strength to strength, mainly because of oil production - yet Nigerians were getting poorer. "Despite the fact that the Nigerian economy is growing, the proportion of Nigerians living in poverty is increasing every year, although it declined between 1985 and 1992, and between 1996 and 2004," head of the NBS bureau Yemi Kale said. Nigeria's population in poverty 1980: 17.1 million 1985: 34.7 million 1992: 39.2 million 1996: 67.1 million 2004: 68.7 million 2010: 112.47 million Source: Nigeria's National Bureau of Statistics Oil accounts for some 80% of Nigeria's state revenues but it has hardly any capacity to refine crude oil into fuel, which has to be imported. Last month, there was a nationwide strike when the government tried to remove the subsidy on fuel, angering many Nigerians who see it as the only benefit they received from the country's vast oil wealth. The NBS said that relative poverty was most apparent in the north of the country, with Sokoto state's poverty rate the highest at 86.4%. In the north-west and north-east of the country poverty rates were recorded at 77.7% and 76.3% respectively, compared to the south-west at 59.1%. BBC Africa analyst Richard Hamilton says it is perhaps no surprise that extremist groups, such as Boko Haram, continue to have an appeal in northern parts of the country, where poverty and underdevelopment are at their most severe. The report also revealed that Nigerians consider themselves to be getting poorer. In 2010, 93.9% of respondents felt themselves to be poor compared to 75.5% six years earlier. Mr Kale says releasing such statistics from time to time is crucial for effective government planning. "This kind of data helps them to know what is really happening so they can track their policies and programmes," he told the BBC's Focus on Africa programme. "It gives them the opportunity to look at what they are doing... and if there are areas they need to change, it makes it easier to modify strategies," he added. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-17015873 |

Rossikk:OBJ is playing politics as usual. He is not sincere. Hear him few month ago: Nigeria: Obasanjo Makes U-Turn, Says Buhari Has Succeeded Where Others Failed By Osa Okhomina and Tunde Oguntola In what appears to be a volte-face, former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the weekend turned around and praised President Muhammad Buhari for achieving huge success in an area where previous administrations, including his, could not make headway. Obasanjo had last month passed a damning verdict of the Buhari administration, saying he felt disappointed by Buhari, whom he supported during the 2015 presidential poll. In a 13-page statement he issued on January 23, the former president categorically asked Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019, adding that instead, he should honourably "dismount from the horse" to join the league of the country's former leaders whose "experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the side line for the good of the country." But speaking at the weekend while performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Azikel Refinery, the first private modular refinery in the oil and gas-rich Niger Delta region, Obasanjo described as "commendable" the Buhari administration's decision to award operational licences to 22 firms for the construction of modular refineries in the country. He noted that 18 of such licences were approved under his administration but that none of them was able to actualise it, unlike the present administration. Obasanjo praised President Buhari for awarding modular refinery operational licences to 22 firms, including Azikel Petroleum. He noted that, out of the 22 licensed operators, Azikel Petroleum is the only company that had actualised its dream of establishing a modular refinery. The former president stated that he was delighted at the commitment of Azikel Petroleum, adding that none of the 18 licenses earlier awarded by his administration came to fruition. Obasanjo said, "I have been told that President Buhari and his government gave 22 licences and that Azikel Petroleum is the only license out of the 22 that is really actualised. "Before then, we gave 18 and not one was actialised. They gave all manner of excuses, including insecurity and oil prices. But those excuses they gave are still there. But they were not genuine entrepreneurs. They were after collecting licences to get crude oil. And that is why in an occasion like this, we should pay special tribute to people like Eruani. "I join you all in thanking President Buhari for giving four licences more than we gave. And he (Buhari) is lucky that he has a man like Eruani to be the only one to actualise." https://allafrica.com/stories/201802190061.html |

Jonathan govt stole so much money’ – Apostle Johnson Suleman Published on June 8, 2019 By Chijioke Jannah Popular cleric and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has accused the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan of looting ‘so much money’ from government treasury. The controversial pastor made the allegation in a post published via his official Twitter handle on Saturday. Suleiman, who has been a fierce critic of the current administration under President Muhammadu Buhari, wrote: “Someone asked me why I’m against the present government and I screamed God forbid. “I asked him why he didn’t say same when I was seriously speaking out against the activities of the previous government that stole so much money. “I am not political; I speak truth to power,” Suleman tweeted. DAILY POST recalls that Apostle Suleman told his congregants shortly before the last general elections to vote for a politician who would rather loot the public treasury than one who would kill them in cold blood. https://dailypost.ng/2019/06/08/jonathan-govt-stole-much-money-apostle-johnson-suleman/

The trial of former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, was stalled at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday. ]EFCC vs Fani-Kayode: What happened in court on Friday Published on May 31, 2019 By John Owen Nwachukwu The trial of former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, was stalled at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday. This was due to the absence of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain. Fani-Kayode’s lawyer, B. F. Ajudua, said he was “indisposed”, but did not state openly what was ailing the former minister. “We apologise for the absence of the second defendant. A letter to that effect was filed,” he told the court. Fani-Kayode, Director of Publicity of the Goodluck Jonathan Presidential Campaign Organisation in 2015, is on trial with former Minister of State for Finance, Mrs. Nenadi Usman, for alleged money laundering. They were charged with former Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Chairman and ex-Chairman of Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Mr. Yusuf Danjuma, and a company, Jointrust Dimensions Nigeria Limited. The quartet were accused of violating the Money Laundering Act by indirectly retaining N300million, N400million and N800million, all proceeds of corruption, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The prosecution said they allegedly committed the offence, to which they pleaded not guilty, between January 8 and March 25, 2015 ahead of the 2015 general elections. At the trial on May 14, Fani-Kayode’s counsel had opposed the prosecution’s bid to tender an extra-judicial statement he made. Usman and Yusuf had also disowned their statements, contending that they made them under duress. The defence counsel, Messrs Ferdinand Orbih (SAN), Norrison Quakers (SAN) and Clement Onwuenwuenor, urged the judge to order a trial-within-trial to test the voluntariness of the statements. But the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, maintained that the defendants made the statements voluntarily, adding that there was no need for a trial-within-trial. Justice Rilwan Aikawa had adjourned till yesterday for ruling on the statements’ admissibility, but Fani-Kayode’s absence stalled it. The judge adjourned until June 24 for ruling and possible trial-within-trial. https://dailypost.ng/2019/05/31/efcc-vs-fani-kayode-happened-court-friday/

Nigerian couple loses $15,860 undeclared money to US Customs at Baltimore Wednesday, June 5, 2019 Nigerian couple loses over $15,000 to US Customs and Border Protection officers at Baltimore Airport. Above a woman being quizzed by a CBP officer U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) seized nearly $21,000 of unreported currency from a Nigerian couple at the weekend. The Nigerians who arrived on a flight from London, reported to CBP officers that they possessed $15,000. However, officers discovered an additional $5,850 in the woman’s purse. The officers seized the $20,850 and then released $4,990 to the couple as humanitarian relief. The officers also released the couple to continue their visit, saving them from criminal prosecution. The Nigerians were not identified in a press statement issued on Tuesday. US Customs said it is perfectly legal to carry large sums of currency in or out of the United States. However, federal law requires that travellers who possess $10,000 or more in currency or other monetary instruments must report it all to a CBP officer at the airport, seaport, or land border crossing when entering or leaving the country. Customs and Border Protection officers are highly trained to uncover illicit activity and they are committed to enforcing the laws of the United States. “Customs and Border Protection officers are highly trained to uncover illicit activity and they are committed to enforcing the laws of the United States,” said Casey Durst, CBP’s Field Operations Director in Baltimore. “Unreported currency often can be proceeds from alleged illicit activity, or used to fund transnational criminal organisations and I commend our officers on this interception”. CBP recently issued travel tips for international travel through BWI. Chiefly among those tips is for travellers to truthfully report all currency they possess to a CBP officer during inspection. Consequences for violating U.S. currency reporting laws are severe; penalties may include seizure of most or all of the traveler’s currency, and potential criminal charges. CBP uses a variety of techniques to intercept narcotics, unreported currency, weapons, counterfeit consumer goods, prohibited agriculture, and other illicit products, and to assure that global tourism remains safe and strong. On a typical day, CBP seizes an average of about $290,000 in unreported or illicit currency along our nation’s borders. https://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2019/06/05/nigerian-couple-loses-15860-undeclared-money-to-us-customs-at-baltimore/
