Ajimobi, Amaechi, Ganduje, Abubakar in private meeting in Ibadan Posted By: Yinka Adeniran, Ibadan On: February 7, 2018 The governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi is presently playing host to his counterparts from Jigawa and Kano State, Governor Badaru Abubakar and Governor Umar Ganduje respectively as well as the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi and the APC national secretary, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni. Ajimobi and his visitors, as at the time of filling this report are still in the Oyo State Government House, Ibadan where they were having a private meeting. Although the issues being discussed were not made known to the journalist, feelers have it that the private meeting had to do with the sundry issues within the party and the recent incursion of herdsmen across the country. Ajimobi was overheard while welcoming the visitor commending the Governor Ganduje on his initiative of addressing the cattle ranching issue that has been causing serious misunderstanding between farmers and herdsmen across the country. None of the visitors addressed the press nor answered any question when approached by journalists. The visitors who stormed the Agodi Governor’s Office at about 6: 40 pm, was initially received by the governor himself in his private office before leaving for the government house House in their convoy of vehicles, where the private meeting is holding. Journalists who had stormed the governors private office where visitors were usually hosted, expecting to be briefed and address on the mission of the visitors were jolted and disappointed when on the entry of the governor to the private office, were told to excuse the group, with Governor Ajimobi emphasizing that the visit is a private visit. As at the time of filing the report, no report, no news has been released on the visit by the visitor who was also gathered that would be on their way to Lagos immediately after the private meeting. http://thenationonlineng.net/ajimobi-amaechi-ganduje-abubakar-private-meeting-ibadan/

FEC okays $2.5 billion external borrowing for refinancing Posted By: Augustine Ehikioya, Abuja On: February 7, 2018 The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved USD2.5 billion Eurobond external borrowing for refinancing. The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of FEC meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. On the potential savings on the proposed USD2.5 billion refinancing, she said that the estimated proceeds of N762.5 billion will be used to redeem Nigerian Treasury Bills (NTB). She said “At estimated current NTB rates of 15% (following mop-up operations by the CBN), the savings from the refinancing of N762.5 billion of Domestic Debt using external capital raising is about N64 billion per annum.” On the impact of the use of the proceeds of the USD500 million issued in November 2017, she said “The proceeds about N162.50 billion were used to redeem NTBs which matured in December 2017. “The immediate impact was a significant drop in the Bid Rates at the Auctions of both NTBs and FGN Bonds. In December 2017 and January 2018: “NTBs dropped from about 16% to 13%. FGN Bonds dropped from about 16-16.50% to 13.50% “This translates to savings for Government on new borrowing while also making the cost of borrowing for the real sector cheaper since the sovereign rate serves as a benchmark for other borrowers,” she added. http://thenationonlineng.net/fec-okays-2-5-billion-external-borrowing-refinancing-2/

Buhari signs executive order to prevent foreigners from getting jobs Nigerians can do February 5, 2018 President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Abuja signed Executive Order 5, to improve local content in public procurement with science, engineering and technology components. The Executive Order is expected to promote the application of science, technology and innovation towards achieving the nation’s development goals across all sectors of the economy. The president, pursuant to the authority vested in him by the constitution, ordered that all ‘‘procuring authorities shall give preference to Nigerian companies and firms in the award of contracts, in line with the Public Procurement Act 2007.’’ The Executive Order also prohibits the Ministry of Interior from giving visas to foreign workers whose skills are readily available in Nigeria. With the fall in Nigeria revenue since 2014, Nigeria Govt has two option, either borrow to pay salary like PDP was doing or lay off workers. They did not take any of these route, because recovered loot is helping Govt to meet its obligation. Capital projects are ongoing etc..

Mr Ibrahim Magu, who appeared before the House Committee on Financial Crimes on Monday to defend the performance of the anti-graft agency’s budget for 2017 and its budget for 2018, told the committee that the funds were recovered in naira, pounds, dollars, euro, South African rand and dirham. During the period, the agency recovered 473.065 billion naira, $89,258,124.97 (N35,415,846,317.29), £294,851.82 (N148,727,302.71), €7,247,363.75 (N3,246,336,430.27), 443,400 dirhams (N43,550,800.21), and 70,500.00 South African rand (N2,111,974.41). Magu listed the achievements of the EFCC during the year to include the recovery of N329 billion from petroleum marketers by the commission’s Kano Office, securing the final forfeiture of N32billion and $5million to the Federal Government from the former minister of petroleum resources, as well as final forfeiture to the FG of N449 million discovered at Legico Plaza on Victoria Island, Lagos. Court Orders Final Forfeiture Of £578,080 Stolen From NIMASA Channels Television Updated February 5, 2018 A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of the sum of £578,080.00 to the Federal Government of Nigeria. Justice Saliu Saidu who made the order of final forfeiture held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had shown that the funds were proceeds of unlawful activity. The EFCC had in December 2017 approached the court through an exparte application argued by it’s counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo. The court had granted an interim forfeiture of the funds after Mr Oyedepo testified that the money sought to be forfeited is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities of a maritime firm, ZAL Marine Limited. The EFCC counsel also alleged that the sum was stolen by the maritime firm through some employees of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). The EFCC specifically mentioned a Macfoy Irene who was said to have used her position as an Assistant Director and Head of Nigerian Seafarers Development Program to facilitate the fraudulent transfer of the sum of £1,074,600.00 from NIMASA’s Zenith Bank (UK) Account to an offshore account belonging to Swiss Bulk carriers S.A under the false Pretenses of training 54 Nautical Science and Marine Engineering Students on Sea Training on 16th March, 2013. The money was said to have been transferred from NIMASA’s Accounts without any parastatal or Ministerial Tender Board Approval or Contract. ZAL Marine Limited then allegedly received and retained the sum of £578,080.00 out of the transfer made to Swiss Bulk Carriers, S.A. https://www.channelstv.com/2018/02/05/court-orders-final-forfeiture-of-578080-stolen-from-nimasa/? |

Na lie. The Chief of Naval staff is from the South. There are at least 2 Southerners on the Buhari security head, excluding the NIA that was until recently a Southerner . So with all the noise, the South has only 4 Southerners under the Innefectual Buffoon. |
Babangida Distances Self From Statement Issued By Spokesperson Channels Television Updated February 4, 2018 Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida has distanced himself from a statement credited to him and signed by his media aide, Mr Kassim Afegbua. Babaginda in his rebuttal said the views expressed in the statement are not his views but that of the writer. In the statement personally signed General Babangida, he said as former President and statesman, he has an unfettered channel of communication with the highest authorities without sensational public correspondence. He, however, expressed worries over the current political events and civil unrest in many parts of the country, which he said have raised many questions on the governance and unity of Nigeria. Read Full Statement personally signed by General Babangida below: It has been drawn to my attention a press statement on the State of the nation, particularly 2019 general elections and beyond. Let me categorically state that as former President and Statesman, I have an unfettered channel of communication with the highest authorities without sensational public correspondence, therefore those views expressed over there are personal views of the writer. However, with due respect to individual opinion and constitutional rights, it is worrisome that Political events and civil unrest in many part of the country, has raised many questions on the governance and unity. Indeed 2018 is inundated with seasons of literatures on the corporate existence of this country. Many of such literatures have shown concerns of the corporate existence of Nigeria beyond 2019 general elections. It will be recalled, that in my message to this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, I specifically expressed the dire need for proactive measures to stop farmers/herders clashes in the middle belt, Cattle rustling, armed robbery, Kidnapping, gangsterism and Cultism. Our security agencies have to step up surveillance with more efforts on intelligence gathering for maximum success. Recent happenings and utterances by political gladiators is alarming and not in the interest of common man that is already overstretched and apparently living from hand to mouth due to precarious economic conditions. Despite all these challenges, I am optimistic that the political actors will play within the ambits of political norms and decorum to ameliorate the problems facing our society now. I am a realist that believes in all issues in a democratic atmosphere are sincerely discussed and resolved in the spirit of give and take. Since after my military years that metamorphosed to the only Military President in the history of Nigeria and my civilian life, I always have one clear objective that freedom can only be achieved through democracy. Some people find this freedom as an avenue for eroding democracy by antics of hate speeches under the guise of religion, tribal or self imposed mentorship. This trend of pitching political class and the people is unhealthy and skewed. The clamour for re-alignment of governance in the country as we are approaching 2019 election year is a welcome development only if the agitations are genuinely channelled through legislation and total supremacy of the constitution. Any attempt outside this circle of democratic tenants is deceptive and divisive idea capable of plunging our political journey into disarray. Our present political parties and their structures need parameter pillars that will make them more strong with unique ideologies. However, our present political parties need a surgical operation that will fusion them into a reasonable number. I have been an advocate of two-party systems but in our present reality in Nigeria, our political parties can fusion into strong political association/party that can form a formidable opposition to a ruling party. As students of history, we are aware that many advanced democracies have two distinct ideological political parties, with a handful of smaller political parties that serve as buffer whenever any of the known political parties derailed or became unpopular. I still believe in two-party systems as the best option for Nigeria. It is high time that we dialogue more on any issue in order to have a political solution on any problem affecting us. It is sad that Nigeria had its fair share of conflicts, and we cannot continue to fall back to those dark years of bloodshed. As a people, now is the time to come together to address all Communal conflicts and criminality under any guise to further unite the country in line with the vision of our founding fathers so that as a nation, we can forge ahead in the task of building a more prosperous nation. SIGNED: GENERAL IBRAHIM BADAMASI BABANGIDA GCFR, FORMER MILITARY PRESIDENT & COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF NIGERIAN ARMED FORCES. 1 UPHILL DRIVE, MINNA. SUNDAY, 04TH FEBRUARY, 2018. |
