Nigeria moves up 24 places on global ‘doing business’ rankings OCTOBER 31ST, 2017 anthonynlebem@gmail.com EDITOR EXCLUSIVES Nigeria has moved up 24 places to 145th in the World Bank’s ‘Doing Business’ report published today, and for the first time the country is recognized as one of the top 10 most improved economies in the world. The World Bank Doing Business project provides objective measures of business regulations and their enforcement across 190 countries http://www.businessdayonline.com/nigeria-moves-24-places-global-business-rankings/ World Bank top 10 ranking: Nigeria has exceeded target – Osinbajo — 31st October 2017 From: Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that Nigeria has exceeded its targets on ease of doing business with World Bank’s recent ranking of the country as one of the top 10 most-improved economies in the world. Osinbajo said exceeding what he called “an ambitious targets” set up President Muhammadu Buhari was made possible by all stakeholders who worked together to achieve this significant result, particularly the National Assembly, Lagos and Kano states, and the private sector. Nigeria has moved up 24 places to 145th in the World Bank’s ‘Doing Business’ report published Tuesday, the first time is making the top 10 ranking. The World Bank Doing Business project provides objective measures of business regulations and their enforcement across 190 economies worldwide. Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande, in a statement, quoted as saying “I welcome Nigeria’s improved performance. We are one of the top 10 reforming economies in the world in 2017. After a decade-long decline in Nigeria’s rankings, last year the Government recorded a modest increase. This year, Mr. President set us an ambitious target of moving up 20 places in the rankings – I am delighted that we have exceeded his goal. “Improving the business environment is at the heart of the Buhari Administration’s reform agenda. We are reinforcing our economic turnaround by a vigorous and active implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) so businesses operating in Nigeria can thrive and be competitive globally. “For the first time, coordinated efforts across various levels of governments have been undertaken to make it easier to do business in Nigeria. I commend all stakeholders who worked with us to achieve this significant result, particularly the National Assembly, Lagos and Kano State Governments, and the private sector.” Osinbajo said SMEs remains the focus with which Nigeria is to drive the ease of doing business, adding that the latest ranking just endorsed the work of the last 12 to 18 months. “Our focus remains firmly on ensuring that SMEs operating in Nigeria find it easier to do business. Our ultimate success will be the testimonials received from businesses all across the country. However, this report endorses the direction that we have been taking to improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria over the last 12-18 months. Although we are beginning to get some positive feedback, we still have a lot of work to do before the full impact of our reforms are felt by all Nigerians. “Some of our critical ongoing reforms include a new sub-national ‘ease of doing business’ project being implemented in conjunction with all the States and the FCT to replicate similar reforms across the country. We are again collaborating with the National Assembly to deliver an Omnibus Bill to jointly furnish a more business friendly legal framework for Nigerian businesses in the future. Furthermore, the Federal Executive Council has approved the concessioning of our major international airports, which will be fast tracked to enable easier movement of persons. “We are also nearing the implementation stage of our National Trading Platform to ensure our cross-border trading is more efficient, while collaborating with other countries to safeguard our security. This policy will also be supported by ongoing reform efforts to simplify trading within Nigeria, whether that be the ease of trade in goods, regulatory approvals or the protection of intellectual property.” http://sunnewsonline.com/world-bank-top-10-ranking-nigeria-has-exceeded-target-osinbajo/

There was no paper trail showing her displeasure. 4. Maina: Buhari’s critics ‘extremely unreasonable’- Sagay Mr. Sagay has denied resigning from his role as the chairman of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Advisory Committee, PACAC. “It is absolutely untrue,” he said. “I dey kampe!” October 28, 2017 Hassan Adebayo President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption adviser, Itse Sagay, has said the anti-graft war of the administration is “pure”, regardless of growing criticisms over the government’s handling of corruption allegations against top officials. Mr. Sagay said this in the wake of the the controversial re-integration of Abdurasheed Maina, futigitive former pension chief, into the civil service. Mr. Sagay said critics were being “extremely unreasonable” and desperate to find fault. PREMIUM TIMES had last week broken news of the shocking recall and promotion of Mr. Maina, which had been shrouded in secrecy by the authorities, including the Ministries of Justice and Interior, and the Office of Head of Service of the Federation. Mr. Maina was in 2013 dismissed by the Federal Civil Service Commission following allegations of leading massive corruption to the tune of N2 billion in his capacity as chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team. Afterwards he turned fugitive, as the Police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission sought his arrest. Since the the news of his secret recall was broken by PREMIUM TIMES, the Buhari administration has faced harsh criticisms of its major boast – anti-corruption fight – with many accusing Mr. Buhari of lacking the will to act against officials of the government under serious allegations of corruption and abuses. But Mr. Sagay, a senior lawyer and professor of Law, disagreed, saying critics were being unreasonable and only desperate to find fault in Mr. Buhari’s anti-corruption commitment. “People who are determined to find wrong will find it no matter how pure the situation is,” said Mr. Sagay in interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday. He continued: “Maina escaped out of this country under Jonathan. When he was sneaked back into the country, did Buhari know about it? The first time he knew he ordered that the man be dismissed and arrested. What more do you want him to say? I think people are extremely unreasonable.” Although Mr. Buhari was assessed as acting quickly enough to “order immediate disengagement” of Mr. Maina, a lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, told PREMIUM TIMES the president lacks such powers. “That was a populist extrication from a hot scandal,” said Mr. Ogunye. Speaking further, Mr. Sagay faulted the demand that the Interior Minister, Abdulrahman Dambazzau and the Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami, be fired for their role in the recall. “These are early days. Inquiries are going on to find out the role of everybody. He is not going to fire anybody without getting all the sides. Do you know he even wrote the Head of Service? It is when investigation is concluded, that you start hearing action being taken,” said Mr. Sagay. Mr. Buhari has since Monday received report on the process of the recall from Head of Service, Wilfred Oyo. But he is yet to act. Meanwhile, Mr. Sagay has denied resigning from his role as the chairman of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Advisory Committee, PACAC. “It is absolutely untrue,” he said. “I dey kampe!” https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/247584-maina-buharis-critics-extremely-unreasonable-sagay.html

What is the Joshua vs Takam prize money and how much of the fight purse will the winner get? Match will be about 10 pm UK time.. This will be Joshua's fight bout since defeating Wladimir Klitschko Telegraph Sport 28 OCTOBER 2017 Anthony Joshua is such an overwhelming favourite to beat Carlos Takam on Saturday night that attention has already turned to who the Englishman might fight next. And earlier this week, Joshua refused to rule out the prospect of an all-British world heavyweight title clash with Tyson Fury despite the former champion's battle to return to the ring. Fury has not fought since beating Wladimir Klitschko to win the IBF, WBA and WBO crowns in December 2015 after being handed a drugs ban and stripped of his licence by the British Boxing Board of Control. And the prospect of a Fury return receded further last month when the 29-year-old declared he would not re-apply to the BBBoC for the right to fight again. But Joshua, who defends his IBF and WBA titles against late replacement Takam in Cardiff on Saturday night, has left the door open to a fight with Fury - provided he proves he can get back in shape. Joshua said: "What was his (Fury's) fighting weight - 18 stone? Even if he comes back at 22 stone, (George) Foreman came back bigger when he was in his prime. "If he wants to fight and gets his licence at 30 or 40 stone - if he wants to get in the ring and he shows he can move about and control that weight, people will watch him. "But if he comes back at that weight and he's getting into trouble against journeymen, then people won't be interested. So it's how he performs at his new weight." First, though, is his fight with Takam. While next year's fights will provide bigger pay days, here is what we expect from this bout: What is the estimated fight purse? The two fighters will be fighting for a combined total of around £11million. Total fight revenues will be bigger than this figure. What will the split be? Joshua is going to take the bulk, as you would expect as he defends his belts. It will be around 90/10 in Joshua's favour, meaning Joshua can be expected to earn £10million and Carlos Takam £750,000. How does that compare to other fights? This fight will not be in the same league as Joshua's last fight, nor others from the year so far. Joshua's last fight, the epic victory over Wladimir Klitschko, saw both fighters take home at least £15million each. Mayweather and McGregor won earned a minimum of £100million and £30million from their August bout.

‘I BELONG TO EVERYBODY AND I BELONG TO NOBODY’: MBUHARI -May 29, 2015 Buhari’s government is 50 percent PDP controlled, says Ali Customs boss Posted By: Tony Akowe On: October 27, 2017 Comptroller General of Nigeria Custom Service, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali has said that the Buhari government has not been able to move forward and fulfill its campaign promises because most of those calling the shots in the government are those who never believed in the President’s vision. Ali’s assertion was supported by Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong who said state governors are not happy that they are left out of appointments being made by the government. Speaking at the commissioning of the office complex of the Buhari Support Organisation in (BSO) in Abuja, Col Ali who is also the National Coordinator of the Organisation said that more than fifty percent of positions in the Buhari government were handled over to members of the PDP who fought against the actualisation of a Buhari Presidency. While lamenting the fate of members of the organizations who he said made serious sacrifices to ensure that Buhari become President, the Customs boss said when the chips are down, those who were not part of the Buhari vision and are currently in government will abandon the ship, while members of the Organisation who sought the votes of Nigerians will be called to account for the failure of the government. “We must agree that we cannot finish our four years without delivering and leaving something to be remembered for in this country for a long time to come. We have no problem with our President because he is on course. “But I must confess here that we have been infused by people who were not part of this journey and these people are the ones that calls the shots today. That is why we are derailing. If we had the right people who had the vision and have been there in and out, I believe that we will not be going the way we are going today. “It is my belief that those of us who have been in the trenches all these years to get good governance will surely be sleeping with belly ache everyday, especially in the recent past. Everyday, when you wake up, there is a story that makes you shiver. “We cannot, as a people who have fought and committed everything we had to bring this government to being sit back and allow things to happen the way they are happening. At the end of the day, the fingers will point at us because we were the ones who went to people and asked them to give us their votes. “These people that are calling the shots today were not there and when the chips are down, they will disappear and melt within the system. We are the ones that will be asked to account for what happened. “Are we willing to face Nigerians and tell them that we have failed? I think this is the time for us to come together, create a system that is very robust enough to fight back and take back government in our hands and ensure that we deliver. “We believe that if you want to change the system, it will happen. Let me say that in the course of the jihad of the Prophet Mohammad, anytime they go out for a battle, they come back with loot, but these loot, as far as my own research told me is not distribute to everybody, but to those who took the sword and faced the enemies. “Today, with all sense of responsibility, I want to say that we have 50 percent of PDP in our government. How can we move forward with this load? How can we achieve our target with this load? It is a spoilt system and so. When you come in, you shake off everybody and bring in your own. That is what democracy is all about. “Today, we have members of PDP calling the shots. That is what we will begin to fight for, we will fight for our right position, our vision and our mission for this government. I am sorry to deviate into politics, but it is very essential because we are a political Organisation. It is time for us to wake up from slumber and chat a course for this great nation and I believe that we can do it. May God help u and see us through.” “I will therefore ask my colleagues of the BSO to go back to the study room. This is a Commission, but it is also the beginning of the fight for good governance. We must get back to the trenches, draw our own battle plan and battle line. I enjoined you that the same commitment we had in 2015, I employ you to bear with us and commit yourself to a better future for Nigeria. “We will be calling on you from now on and we will be working day and night. We must do so because we want to save our name at the end of the day and the name of the President for what he is doing. Our President is on course and all we need is to ensure that we support him. What do we do? For those of us who believe in God, we must know that God is the first point of call.” While commending members of the Organisation for keeping hope alive, he said “this is a gathering to rekindle what we started in 2015 and what we used as a vehicle to fight in the trenches, out of the torches, along the routes and in so many difficult terrains to see to the success of our vision and mission. Our vision then was t install a government that will bring about change in this country. Our motto and expression then was that we want change. “I want to commend Nigerians for sharing that same vision with us. They decided to vote the government out and voted us in because of that vision of change. We are riding on that mantle of change today. “It is good to take us back on the memory lane. Some of us started this journey in 2011. There are those who started as far back as 2003 and are still in the trenches. I am sure that the 2007 veterans are still here, while some of us joined the train in 2011, while many others joined in 2015. “Why did we then sacrifice everything that we need and want? A lot of us have lost their jobs, others have lost their businesses. A lot of us sitting here today have nothing to do because they committed their time and resource working for the success of a change for a better Nigeria. “We did this not because of ourselves or any individual but because of our love for this great nation. Many of you can remember that we went through this because we are committed to a course and that whatever we eventually install will be something that we are committed to. “But let me say here without fear of being contradicted that I think half way through the journey, we are losing our core values. We are losing our vision and mission and I think that the idea of our being here today is to look critically at what we need to do to get back on track. “There is no doubt that we have derailed because we are not doing what we say we want to do. Why is it so? We need to find an answer to that. If we do find an answer, then what should we do to get us all back on track. We owe this great nation and the 180 million Nigerians the duty to give good governance. Good governance is what they voted for and good governance is what they expect to get and they serve that. “We therefore, as BSO, have a great task ahead of us. My dear comrades, the battle and the job starts now. We have won one battle by taking over power. But what we make of this power is very essential to us and to humanity. “Therefore, I want to take this opportunity to tell my colleagues here that we have to change the narratives. When we were our there working and jumping on the street and reaching every corner, we were shouting change, change for a better Nigeria. Now, the key word is good governance for Nigerians”. Also speaking, Plateau state governor also lamented that appointments into government positions are made without recourse to the governors, adding that those who do not have the capacity to defend the actions of the President have been the ones benefiting from federal government t appointments. The governor said the government must be made aware that things are not working the way they should, saying “If things are wrong they are wrong, if they are right they are right. But it requires very courageous people to come out and say these thongs are wrong or they are right. “Let Mr. President be aware that this is the time to do it because even as governors we are also complaining in our various state, we are saying it. We complained in our states that we sit down and we hear appointment made and then people start asking you as the governor where is this man coming from? “But when we turn right and turn left, we don’t know where such a person is coming from. Many people have complained. I’m sure governors have complained that we should be able to know who and who will protect Mr. President and his administration. “When I heard that BSO is coming back again, I said is it not too late because if you allow people to grumble too much, you will see fight in several states and some of them are for a just course. Somebody suffered for the party, the person is not rewarded and you wake up to see another man who even fought you, the man who made you to lose your job is now being appointed and the one who suffered is sitting down. Sometimes he will be looking for tears to cry and the tears will not be there because they are dry. “Like our chairman said to me, it is not too late. This is the time to start because this is the time you will hear a lot of things coming. People who have not serve will come back and say I had serve this way, I had serve that way but the records are there. The records can not tell lie. If it is true that they served this way, they served that way let the record”. http://thenationonlineng.net/buharis-government-50-percent-pdp-controlled/

Why we delivered cars to Aisha Buhari — Nigeria Police October 26, 2017 Evelyn Okakwu The force in a statement on Thursday said the vehicles, which it insisted were not SUVs, were given to police officers serving as aides to the wife of the President. The senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Isa Misau, on Wednesday opened another can of worms when he accused Mr. Idris of donating two SUVs to the First Lady under yet unclear but alleged illegal circumstances. The senator, who has been in the news lately after he accused the police boss of nepotism, tribalism, favouritism, cash for promotion and diversion of funds including involvement in amorous affairs with female junior officers, was recently charged to court for defamation of character and peddling of falsehood by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF. Mr. Misau, a former cop, who was also accused of deserting the police by the spokesperson of the force, has however maintained that he was being victimised by the authorities for saying the truth. Mr. Misau made the latest round of allegations when he appeared before the Senate ad-hoc committee set up to investigate the allegations levelled by the lawmaker against the IGP. Mr. Misau explained how the IGP gave Mrs. Buhari the two cars, saying the details of the donation were contained in the documents the police boss submitted to the court in the suit instituted against him by the AGF, Abubakar Malami, on behalf of the Federal Government. While Mrs. Buhari’s spokesperson, Suleiman Haruna, said he had no knowledge about the allegation, the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, said in a statement that the allegation was “baseless and outright falsehood”. “It is pertinent to state that at no time did the Wife of the President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mrs Aishat Buhari requested (sic) directly or indirectly for vehicles for her use from the Inspector General of Police and no vehicle whether Jeep or SUV has ever been given for her personal use,” the statement said. The statement said the police boss gave out two buses to the police aides of Mrs. Buhari for their official use and not as a donation to the first lady. ”It is within the powers of the Inspector General of Police that when on the 17th January, 2017, SP Sani M Baba –Inna, the ADC, “Wife of the President” Federal Republic of Nigeria requested for Two (2) vehicles for Police Personnel in the convoy of Wife of the President for convoy movement and security purposes. Two (2) Police Vehicles (i) A Toyota Sienna Bus with Reg. No. NPF 2406D (ii) A Toyota Hiace Bus with Reg. No. NPF 3363D were approved by the Inspector General of Police to the ADC “Wife of the President” SP Sani M Baba –Inna for the purposes requested and not to the person of the Wife of the President or for her personal use as alleged by Misau”, the statement noted. “Police IG manipulated retirement age” The statement also countered another allegation made by Mr. Misau that Mr. Idris had manipulated his retirement age. It said it was a bureacratic error and not deliberate as insinuatd by Mr. Misau. misau “IGP’s retirement age, Misau’s allegations were ill-motive, for avoidance of doubt, the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Force Secretary Office wrote the Chairman, Police Service Commission on the 18th of January, 2017 drawing the attention of the Commission to the observation on the current Staff List of Senior Police Officers whereby the date of birth of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, NPM, mni was incorrectly stated as 3/01/1959 instead of the actual date 15/01/1959. All documents and records of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, NPM, mni has 15/01/1959 as his date of birth except the staff list Senior Police Officers and this is the reason why the approval of the Honourable Chairman, Police Service Commission for correction of the error was sought in this regard,” the statement said. The statement had an attachment of a letter written to the Force Secretary of the Police Service Commission to ensure the stated correction in dates. “The difference of dates between 3/01/1959 and 15/01/1959 is just Twelve (12) days which is very insignificant in Thirty Five (35) years that a public servant can be in service. Attached is letter Ref No. CH.7080/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.3/30 dated 18th January, 2017 written by the Force Secretary to the Honourable Chairman Police Service Commission on the subject matter for media ease of reference.” https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/247397-delivered-cars-aisha-buhari-nigeria-police.html

sarrki:I support you on this one. The Igbos should vote for Obiano in Anambra state in the next month election. They should try and salvage whatever is left of their ethnic pride by supporting their own, which is APGA in this case. If Obiano loses, it means that is the end of APGA. The APC guy appears like a thug and by the way, he was the PDP candidate in 2013. So it really does not make sense that APC will continue in their buffoonery of fielding former PDP member as their candidate. |

hinohsend:Jonathan actually got about 4 Million votes out of his 12 Million votes in 2015 from the North, largely due to the power of incumbency. We have a lot of political neophytes here trying to punch above their weight . They are still struggling to come to terms that their IB hero lost the election, that they assume he could never lose. They look into their future politically and they see that it is bleak and they have tried all sort of tricks including LiePOB, yet they fail. I hope after 2019, all doubts in their mind will be clear and they will begin to come to terms with their new reality. |
