How can we check the demurage cost on a truck that's a month old in the port.
The agent in charge is conspiring with the person that sent the truck due to some fraudulent reasons.

Pls input needed from on the way to check or on the amount charged on Truck(lorry) for a month old.

Demurrage charge varies depending on some factors: terminal - commonly 5 Star Logistics and Grimaldi; type of vehicle - sedan or SUV or truck; state of vehicle.

The agent is supposed to print out the terminal invoice and avail the client actually.

The only known truth is First Three days free storage; all the rest are subject to some many inconsistencies.

I would advise you quickly pay whatever you are asked to pay to avoid further skyrocketing.

To hazard a guess of your question, 30 days could amount to close to more #150k.

It's actually neither here or there. Some scenarios might warrant customs duty to be requested by any security agency not only the customs.

Meanwhile you can buy so far vehicle is okay and ensure you bargain it down reducing the customs duty to be paid to a reasonable amount i.e if the vehicle is worth, say #800k after inspection, you can offer #600k-#650k as discounted price.

Do not believe their usual story of ''its missing", #50k thereabout will get the vehicle owner another print-out from any customs command.

Peradventure you are accosted by any security agency including customs, they won't treat this vehicle like they will treat a recent vehicle with much value, reason I said you can buy it. #5k - #10k would get you out after some delays.

The customer you lied to, sold a lemon vehicle/product/service, won't come back when next he/she needs another; and/or refer you to potential customers with their cycle of influence.

Customers are getting more enlightened day-by-day, if a particular BCD doesn't provide full disclosure, some other will.

Market margins are shrinking due to some factors as well.

Unfortunately, it's a catch 22 situation here as it is still Nigerians that will lose somehow, by looting & destroying SA-linked properties & biz.

How? All their businesses - Novare Mall, Circle Mall, PEP, ShopRite, MTN etc - are not only franchises but as well insured by mostly Nigerian-owned insurance companies in accordance to the law. Nigerians are not only shareholders but staff earning salaries in these insurance companies; they share profit or loss, whatever the case.

MTN for instance, own no single mast in Nigeria; all masts are owned by IHS Nigeria.

Sadly, Nigerians can't point to any major establishment in SA, most are corner-shop (without insurance as Nigerians shy away from insurance).

Question is what is the way out:
First we missed the opportunity, our govt should have implanted some Nigerians in SA after we helped them to fight apartheid just like America does whenever they help any country out, i.e. Afghanistan, Kuwait, Iraq, even Saudi.

Now, we should focus on making our politicians/leaders do the right thing, fight the good fight from home not Abroad, u can't ever win Abroad if u never win @ home!

I won't want to talk about some bad behaviors of some of our brothers Abroad as nothing can ever justify xenophobia (coupled with the revelation that it has State and police support).

One of the major reason I am reluctant to stock almighty pure-water Corolla 03-07, you will see high auction participation for the vehicle thus sold at ridiculous price, and conversely selling lower than cost price in Naija: scammers only care about quick gratification (launder the stolen funds) not profit.

It is not yet uhuru; vehicle-financed scam, nay fraud won't stop with The 80 arrest. A lot more still needs to be done, most especially by our society.

Meanwhile, you can use 75ah if you so desire.

The reason why most battery retailers prescribe '75ah' for your vehicle is because the battery they selling is either substandard and/or illegally labeled what it is not i.e. 75ah whereas it is originally 60/62/66ah.

The difference isn't that much though. It's more or less the same as the price you'll do a quality paint job if the vehicle ends up with scratches all over. That's not to mention the cost of replacing stolen items.

I will understand why dealers will be reluctant to use it though, profit has to be maximized. I sincerely hope this petition/tweet by Chukel sees the light of the day.

Profit maximization as you mentioned.

A large % of containerized vehicles come with scratches while loading and offloading.

Hard to believe but some vehicle profit sometimes don't get up to #50k atimes especially the popular Corolla.
