This is not nice

What's the average price difference between shipping via container and RORO?

Just wondering if it's worth it since the money saved using RORO may not be enough to replace stolen items.
RoRo & container difference for a vehicle is around $400. Not adding storage fees payable.

Furthermore, container often leads to delay.

A vehicle or vehicles could be badly damaged in case of mishap as well.

These grimaldi idiots just hit me again. I'm going legal. I have dropped my petition with federal competition and consumer protection council. I implore all to log into their site, sign up and drop petitions too. This nonsense must stop. Brought in a clear title 2000 model Lexus RX300. The key was broken and sensor stolen. This rendered the car immobile. They also stole the driver's side power window control right inside grimaldi terminal, cos I was at the gate to recieve the vehicle. To make it worse, car has dents allover. I mean allover. What sort of country do we live in. Is this the politician's doing too. Why are we as a people grossly wicked. Please we all should storm the site I mentioned. If grimaldi will not secure property paid for and entrusted in their care, they should wind up from Nigeria. They won't try this nonsense in another country. Any link as to how this can be moved to the floor of house of representatives.
Addendum: also drop complaints and petitions with the parent grimaldi customer email. Seems we have bunch of inefficient idiots here in Nigeria
I have just done that, let's get every vehicle importer to do same.

Hello friend. Pls I need a little info from u. When selling a foreign tokunboh like d one u have on display, what are d documents that a seller is expected to give d customer? Should a legal agreement also b part of d documents?
Basically for any vehicle purchase, you will need a receipt of purchase (and change of ownership optional) from the seller. It's also advisable to visit and know the seller's office/showroom.

Furthermore, ensure customs clearance paper is not only genuine but also no short-payment (visit any customs command to verify the customs papers before making payment for the vehicle). If you find the Customs papers to be either fake or short-paid; you could use it to bargain a reduction of price if you elect to go on with the transaction (so you could complete the papers yourself or be settling Customs intermittently whenever accosted or use only in your local community).

I almost forgot: first is to do a VIN check to ascertain the durability, safety of the vehicle (over 98% of vehicles in Naija are deathtraps, flooded and/or mileage tampered) and doesn't worth the prices advertised by dealers.

Hello Nairalanders,

I just got a job with Orange Insurance Brokers. The post is Customer Relations. They proposed pay is fair to me but I would love your advice.

1. Does the post above translate to marketing?
2. Does anybody know how they treat employees?

Please if you have any info that could help me, kindly advice before I commit myself. Thank you

Lalasticlala mynd44 CrazyMan
That's one of the most ethical companies in Nigeria. You should count yourself lucky especially as you already confirmed pay is fair to you. You will be working with wonderful crop of professionals.

However, I don't know if it's marketing related (your JD should speak to that when you get your letter), but the company is not known for the cut-throat marketing popular in Nigeria.

Congratulations (do have an open mind to learn whichever branch you find yourself, perhaps ikeja or Benin) and prepare to start writing your professional exams.

Good luck.

I asked him to buy a stock that is already trading BELOW its volume adjusted price. There is only one direction for this stock - UPWARD!!!

If by any chance the stock is not in decent profit by December (a very unlikely event or possibility), the stocks can still be sold and converted to cash as N200,000 would only buy a few quantities of the stock currently priced around sub-six Naira.

I am extremely confident of my volume - adjusted - pricing model, let me allow the results speak. Those that saw the Q2 earnings report are already saying the fundamentals look very good.

Let's allow time tell us the whole story.
I admire your courage and viewpoint.

However, it's misdirected: if by any chance the stock is flat, how will he get his #200k back after deducting statutory buying charges when buying and corresponding deduction of statutory selling charges when selling undecided.

Stock Market is either gain or loss.

Bond, Money Market, even Fixed deposit is guaranteed income (no matter how small).

I repeat only Surplus Funds should be invested in stock market.

With all due respect, I want to believe you weren't around during the last capital market crash and meltdown and you are not licensed to offer investment advise. I would advise you get certified first. Then you can pitch this to Pension, insurance, investment, mutual funds organizations. Thumbs up.

meshpips:
My honest advice, open an account with any of the stock broking firms, fund your trading account with the 200,000 NGN and then buy UACN shares. By December, the shares will very likely be worth much more than 50% of their current value.

There is a time value of money. Refuse to keep 200,000 NGN somewhere in July 2019 and still let it remain at 200,000 NGN by December 2019.

I also like to commend you on being able to plan ahead. This is one thing many other people do not do.

I pray for you that the Almighty one keeps you in health and in strength. May He cause you to have much more than you ever imagined.
Your advice thought noble shouldn't be for someone looking at short-term. This is one of the attitude that killed the Capital Market. Capital Market is futuristic and best for long-term investment hence only Surplus Funds should only be invested in stock market.

Furthermore, I would advise you keep your stock buying decision confidential (I don't think you are a stockbroker or financial advisor duly licensed for such or you have insider info which is a crime - insider trading).

Op expressly said he needs this funds to get an apartment in December. Therefore he is first looking at the safety of the fund before yield. Stock Market is volatile.

Invest your money in guaranteed investment like Bond, Money Market. (yes low interest but sure).

Do make sure you patronize only CBN/SEC licensed firms/companies in your dealings.

Thanks for your feedback. Felt i should ask because i was introduced into buying 2 new batteries made in Turkey. 75 and 62 amps respectively. Both batteries with 1 year warranty which i made sure that was written on the purchase receipt. But unfortunately, the 75amps failed less than a year while the 62amps is so far 1 year and 6 months.

I went there for a replacement but as usual, the agreement wasn't honored and i was forced to purchase a Korean Brand which i am currently still observing.
So sorry for your experience. I hope the replacement will last longer.

Meanwhile, you can patronize us when next you need another battery to enjoy our tested brand.

TRANE batteries has been the market leader in Nigeria for over 40years and only brand still available in the market amongst its peers. Without been immodest, no other brand rivals TRANE (ask any experienced automotive battery retailer/seller about TRANE and most will either try to dismiss you with pricing or tell you you can't see it in the market grin, because they make more profit selling inferior brands than quality brands led by TRANE).

The design and packaging of TRANE makes it extremely difficult and practically impossible for adulteration and illegal re-labelling commonly done by unscrupulous retailers (i.e. 36ah to 45ah, 45ah to 60ah, 66ah to 75ah, 88ah to 100ah etc).

TRANE is the best in batteries.

What's the lifespan of this Brand?
Empirically, TRANE batteries last nothing less than 36months under normal condition of use.

Furthermore, we gave an absolute replacement or money-back guarantee of 6months. To date, no customer has ever had cause to complain or make any claim against us.

This is heart breaking.

This is where investigative journalism comes in and main reason why our media houses lack content.

This is an interesting piece where a journalist goes under cover and shoots a documetary on this issue.

Can imagine a documentary aired on Tv and Newspapers and captioned Lagos port where Customs lack control and Carlessness of shipping Lines which leads to the intentional destruction of imported vehicles in good condition at the Lagos port.
Fantastic.
Meanwhile cameras are not allowed at all in the port environs.
Like you said, investigative journalism.

@ bolded, once the claims department are notified, they will inspect and you can take delivery after, the vehicle does not have to stay forever, just a day or two.

The key is to let your agent know the condition of the vehicle before arrival, so as to know what to look for before the vehicle is exited from terminal, the moment it's out, nothing, I repeat, nothing can be done.
Thanks for this, I will try it out when next it happens.

But you agree some insurance companies cover all sorts of damage?...... huh

Let's assume this is criminal damage happened on the wharfs premises....... What would be the eventual outcome?

No wonder erico2k2 threw his RR inside a container...... I initially though it was a waste of money, but seeing this level of damage, makes one's heart sink......
No sir, that's too wide to say: every policy has exclusion clause(s).

One of the principle of insurance is Utmost Good Faith.

Another is the principle of Loss Minimization: which states that the insured must take all necessary steps to curtail the loss of insured property (not willfully cause which is the case here). It is the main responsibility of the insured to act diligently and take all steps to cut/curtail losses to the insured property not be the perpetrator by himself (shipping lines) or authorized representative (paid drivers).

But that's the sole purpose of insurance, to insure against unforeseen loss........

Nigerian system is probably the weakest link....... Imagine importing a vehicle to a working country and vehicle is badly damaged.......

An insurance company, would surely be picking the tab.......
Unforseen sir, not willful.
Mind you, willful act could also be criminal sometimes so insurance can't cover it.

Lexusgs430:
But you pay a local fee, before vehicle is released...... In this case, would owner be expected to pay?...... tongue
If anyone refuses to pay any approved fee across the value chain (the vehicle won't be released) and demurrage starts counting no matter the cause of the problem. For instance, if Customs network is down for days or a strike action at the Port or anything, importer and agent will still pay for the storage/demurrage.

It is a Catch 22 scenario: do you leave your vehicle to incur demurrage while pursuing a claim against them which most likely won't be honored or you move on.

Mind you, I don't think there is anywhere in the world except Nigeria that demurrage is paid (I stand to be corrected thou).

Lexusgs430:
So who would be held liable?.... huh Don't tell me it's owners loss..... Wharf must have some sort of liability insurance..........
No Underwriter (insurance company) will cover such negligence as it is willful.

I told about 3 agents their umbrella body ANCLA should take this up but they all said their association is useless.

Another way is: we, vehicle importers documenting all these with enough facts (pictures before and after) and sending to them in the first instance. I know Calculusx has some acknowledge letters overtime and successful put thru some claims against them. I have over 5 emails unacknowledged.

Furthermore, some form of peaceful protest by us would suffice if they don't change cos really, you can't do without them in the importation value chain.

This sort of damage....... They must explain and compensate for ..........

Did they have the effrontery to request clearing fee?...... huh
They only collect Shipping fee which is paid in the abroad often before you see the vehicle at all.

Imagine the owner going to claim his very clean Lexus and meet with this sight....... The owner would become extremely tachy.......

Best to insure each vehicle and if vehicle is of considerable value, put in a container........
Insurance doesn't cover damage like this.
Only vessel wreck leading to total loss of the vehicle is covered. Premium paid is $1 if am correct.
Car TalkRe: . by DelTel(m):
That's what we face all the time.
I won't want to bore you with pictures.
It has really been worse, from batteries to name it.
The shipping lines especially Grimaldi lines up about 10cars and push them out of the vessel.
They are heartless, and of cos Nigerians.
I had once insisted they fish out the missing parts, sent email and spoke to their port manager or so.
However, they will tell you they are investigating and the vehicle will be incurring demurrage.

Ask Calculusx how many Lexus remote keys he has had to replace.
Car TalkRe: Missing Catalytic Converters by DelTel(m): 12:07pm On Jul 15, 2019
Hotspotaccess:
Thank you boss. Yes its shocking that such could happen in Canada of all places. I was told it's some blacks and Indians that do that cos the place is like a warehouse where vehicles are parked before they are moved to port for shipping.

He shipped the vehicles in a container. The catalytic converters were cut with an implement like a saw. It was done neatly. They cut the exhaust pipes from both ends
I get the drift now, only way to curb is to use reliable shipper who won't park cars arbitrarily but in a paid storage facility before loading the container.

It happens in USA too for RoRo, another reason to use reliable shipper that won't park vehicles at storage but straight to port from wherever vehicle is purchased.

The culprits know the vehicles are heading out of Canada. Also these stolen catalyst converters and other items are shipped to Lagos (more often also in containers bringing in the vehicles).
Car TalkRe: Missing Catalytic Converters by DelTel(m): 7:26am On Jul 15, 2019

Good day house. I have a friend who imported some cars from Canada. Unfortunately two of the vehicles (a Tundra and a Rav4) had their catalytic converters stolen at the ports before shipping.

Sorry for the loss.
However, the bolded statement is quite shocking (and unbelievable). Pilfering ain't norm at foreign ports but I can't say that for naija.

Were the vehicles containerized or RoRo?
Can you confirm if the welding around it are fresh or not?
