TV/Movies › Re: Common Flaws in Nigerian Home Videos by denex: 9:37pm On May 30, 2007
Well, I personally believe home videos are flawless because I really cannot believe all those poops happen by error. I once saw this movie where a guy was so disrespected by his wife, at one point she tells him he has to cook his own food.
Now this guy gets back from work one day and has to cook. Does he simply cook Indomie? No! Jollof rice? No! Guy decides what he needs is a good plate of pounded yam. So there's a montage of him peeling the yam, cutting the yam, washing the yam, cooking the yam and then finally pounding it. Only for this guy to dish the food and when he starts eating it, it's Eba!
To me that was the height. I really don't know why perhaps after the first take, the pounded yam finished and they had to continue it with eba. Possibly the director took a second look at the script last minute and realised that eating pounded yam wouldn't portray true suffering, so last minute he decided on eba. I'm still pondering.

TV/Movies › Re: What Will A Nigerian Superhero Be Like? by denex: 8:55pm On May 30, 2007
Well, last year, my crew was contemplating shooting our first movie in 2007 and a director suggested one about a superhero. dakmanzero is the only one in this forum that has a solid idea of what a Nigerian superhero should be. His/her powers should be consistent with what is actually tenable in Nigeria i.e juju/jazz/otumokpo.
Their weakness should be distance from the shrine or some kind of abomination.
The superhero's name could be something like VOODOO. Don't even laugh cos that just came
off the top of my head.

Anyway, how come you all forgot our old superheroes:
Benbella
Pa Jimoh
and,
, now this one is crazy but Dauda the sexy guy/ Nackson. I'm still trying to figure out how to make the guy into a hero. He's a damn rapist for crying out loud!
All the same, I'm making my movie on Nackson. I don't care what anyone says. Maybe I'd get an R18 rating, but I'll do it all the same.
Perhaps I could do a little switch; instead of being a rapist, he could be this guy who could sense heat in a woman and went around town giving satisfaction. Is that heroic? Well, whatever. I love this forum. So many intelligent people.
Ah what about Gbefila? She solves problems by spreading rumours. Didn't anyone in here read Funtimes?

Poems For Review › Re: Poem Of The Year! by denex: 2:09am On May 30, 2007

I'll stand by the truth
cos if I can't take my chances,
then this love is no good.
Poems For Review › Re: Can We Publish A Poetry Anthology? by denex: 1:25am On May 30, 2007
Hey y'all I'm feeling this whole anthology thing. There are some few publishing companies that will definitely work with up if we submit our manuscript. Let's talk about this more.
Literature › Re: We Need To Write And Publish More Books In Nigeria by denex: 1:10am On May 30, 2007
I really think we should write more. Thousands of bankers are actively banking daily, thousands of musicians are singing, actors acting, poets and novelists are about the only sect I know of people that don't plan on making much of their t their talent.
Someone talked about nollywood. I'm actually writing what may be the first standard script for a Nigerian home video. We need to do something in that area too. Think about it. It's actually our God given responsibility.
Anyways, I'm trying to put together a poetry competition for amateurs and am hoping people will get book deals and all that through that post of exposure.
Forum Games › Re: Submit Your "quote Of The Day" by denex: 12:49am On May 30, 2007
"If you do good,
and I do not say that you did good,
it's as good as me saying you did not do good.

And if you do bad,
yet I do not say that you did bad,
it's just as good as me saying you did not do bad".

Poems For Review › Re: What Brought Your Poetic Side? by denex: 12:45am On May 30, 2007
I've always written poems basically about my puppylove years when I was still much younger. However, when I was in 200L and my sis just joined me in UNIBEN, studying theatre arts, I just borrowed this book on poetry from her and it changed my life forever.
Culture › Re: Can Somebody Please Teach Me Pidgin? by denex: 12:27am On May 30, 2007
Well, the best and easiest way to learn pidgin is to apply for a short course in the University of Benin. Believe me in 3 months, pidgin english will become your mother tongue! I actually wrote a poem in Pidgin. But I must warn you, it's racist.

WHITE SKIN, BLACK MAN

So I fair?
Who come bad patapata?

Who come worst pass?

Which kain palaver come be all that?

Everything wey black jus bad
Black magic, black leg, even black heart sef
With your skin like overall eczema,
Na you still wan dey criticize.

But me I never see person wey black before
Me na yellow, my wife brown, my pickin chocolate.
E come be like say na ya own brain black
you no see black but you think black, you imagine black.

So now who come black?
Your coat, your car, everything black
Dye you hair black, smoke your air black,
wear dark shade make you dey see black.

So bros, tell me who come bad.
You wan' come brainwash your slave:
"Black is beautiful"; "black n proud"
you forget say black na state of mind.

You don already black finish
You jus dey shame to talk am
But as you dey resist na ya sef you dey punish.
You wan black, you dey try, so claim am with pride.

"Crazeman wey 'gree don already cure.
So go ask John Hawkins, ask Lord Lugard.
Who come kill my papa, who thief my land?

Your rhyme is tight. If you really wrote that, what you need is a record deal and not poetry reviews.

Poems For Review › Most Beautiful Thing by denex(op): 11:25pm On May 29, 2007
Crazy of me
insane you'd think
but put your feet in my place,
maybe then you'd appreciate.

She was a queen
reincarnation of Sheba
perhaps born of Aphrodite
devine charm and beauty.

'twas about an aura
some kind of glow about her
you couldn't miss it
like her brand mark.

Hard to describe
impossible to compare
a vision sublime,
likened to nothing else.

'n' I know angels
she sure wasn't one
more of a goddess
so heavenly she was.

In the eye of the beholder,
she appeared rather a dream
as light to a blind man,
longed to be seen.

Dimples when she smiled
scarlet lips, cocoa cheeks,
hypnotic lure in her eyes,
who wouldn't want this kiss

voice played tunes with her words
skin velvet as a newborn.
In Rome she'd be Venus
but to me, a little something more.

If she were a number,
she'd be an 8
great assets all over
'n' a perfect shape.

But what injustice
to see 'n' not believe
a stroke of madness
to know yet not agree.

Grace in her walk
elegance was the air she bore
'n' how she'd act ignorant of it all,
there's nothing more beautiful in the world.

you without me
is like tha bomb with no switch
like a kiss you can't feel
'n' a dream you ain't in.

like a verse you can't sing
'n' a ring that don't bling,
I'm a beach with no sea
like a pen without ink.

shall I live 'n' not breathe
'cos I can't deny it
if I do I'm lying
for indeed I'm dying.

Your world without me
is a word you don't speak.
As a drum that don't beat,
it'd be wrong without me.

ma eye's without sleep
'n' ma soul knows no peace
'cos I'm lost without thee
like a bird with no wings.

Poems For Review › African Dream by denex(op): 11:16pm On May 29, 2007
I dream of you and me
Living our lives free
I dream a day the streets are clean
No drugs, No guns
It's a world that I dream

I dream of our kids
Back to living the extended family
Rising, living to win
I dream our herbs heal every sick
No more grief, no disease
Thats' the life that I see

I dream of my brothers
Long lost in the Diaspora
America, Europe and the Caribbean
I miss you African soldiers
I keep waiting, searching for you
'cos in my dream we're together.

I dream of elevation
Time for the African Union
One mother nation
I dream us back in our rightful position
We're all a part, we all should strive
Bring this dream alive.

I'm a writer of words
a bearer of lores,
am a messenger come
to deliver the called.

I'm a singer of songs
a preacher of love
am a lover for sure
I live for l'amor.

Am a soldier at war
a fighter for a cause
I'm a righter of wrongs
defender of the just.

An angel to some
yet a minion to more
I've got foes in every turn
for the battles I fought.

I'm a teacher of laws
a guide to the young
like a father to a son
I may save but am lost.

Am a winner by blood
sometimes I lose by my choice
I may rise, I may fall,
just as constant as the sun.

I'm a man and yet a boy
am a joker but too a pawn
may seem weak though am strong
like a river in a pond.

I'm a bringer of wrath
to the path of the cursed
yet a blessing from the gods.
I'm the carrot and the rod.

Am on both sides of the coin.
I'm a twister, am a rock
call me crazy if you want
'cos am not sure that am not.
