Spirit + Body = Soul
At death: Spirit leaves the body and is assigned either of these 2 places until the resurrection.
1: Paradise: Paradise is that part of the spirit world in which the righteous spirits who
have departed from this life await the resurrection of the body. It is a condition of
happiness and peace.
According to Luke 23:43, the Lord replied, "Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
2. Spirit Prision or hell:
First, it is the temporary abode in the spirit world for those who were disobedient in mortality.
David’s soul shall not be left in hell, Ps. 16:10 (Ps. 86:13).

Second, it is the permanent location of those who are not redeemed by the atonement of Jesus Christ.
