will draining the oil and replacing with what I have been using before stop the smoke?but then I will still have to contend with the shortage problem.or perhaps I should try another synthetic brand aside from the hardex oil I initially used.I wanna exhaust options that don't require dismantling the engine and if the problem still persists,then I checkout the rings.

If it is removed gunk that started the leak, I doubt changing oil will stop it. The engine is possibly now 'clean'.

Start from the top....change to a thicker oil grade, then do a compression test, then check valve seals.

Possible your engine had gunk build up which was cleaned off by the detergents in the new oil. Oil now seeps past cracks initially blocked by old sludge.

So many issues can cause blue smoke.

Valve seals to rings to poor oil quality.

Is there a garage you can do a compression test? Can your mechanic check on the seals? Rings should be the last option IMHO.

If you are changing rings, don't go the made in China route. It is cheaper to just throw the cash and old engine in a nearby lagoon. Get OEM

I think the op has been advised by a mechanic to fix the car. 'Just get a car body' would have been the suggestion.

The catch unfortunately is that once the op starts, he would find out it is cheaper to buy a used car. By then the project would have been financially committed to and the mechanic would have bought a used golf mk 2 from the profits

Analysis of damage:
Body shell and structure. Write off
Wheels. No longer safe for use. Dents on rims noticeable.
Engine. Structural damage highly probable due to high impact during accident. Possible salvage but needs detailed check.
Interior. Seat frames deformed. Dashboard damaged. Airbags deployed. Possible salvage of knobs, switches and dials. Maybe radio. Others not likely.
Overall, vehicle not fit for use as a transplant.

Advice: sell off as a complete scrap. Average of N50,000.

Funds to be used for repair could be used in getting a cheaper alternative. (N400k will get a good used car).

Speedometers on cars might not be fully accurate.

Just did a lap along Abeokuta expressway.

I used a GPS speedometer on my Android.

Whilst my car speedo was recording above 180, the GPS showed 174 km/hr

Covered 32 km in 18 minutes.

Vehicle used is a 1994 Honda Accord Europe version aka bullet. Its a 4 cylinder.

Average speed is 109km and includes intra township drive

Gurus please I need your help.
I have a Honda bullet, which I've been using for 3 years with no issues. I decided to change the ball joint last week after noticing the sound coming from ball joint anytime I make a turn. The sound is gone but I think the mechanic tampered with the ABS. Anytime I start the car, the breaks will be hard. After 10 seconds it's back to normal and the ABS light will be On. What could be the problem. Am afraid, I might have to buy complete ABS.

Your car is obd 1.

Use a jumper pin to get the abs code.

You can Google how to use jumper pin to get Honda obd 1 codes. The connector should be on the right front passenger well. Its a blue connector. Under the dash.

Use an office pin to jump the connector and study the abs light. It will give a series of flashes.

NB. Honda bullet abs is a complete system....not just one part. Sensors, pump, and some other units (forgotten the name)

You did around 160 to 177 km per hr. (Around 110mph)

A V6 would do better.

However, try to use a GPS speedometer app next time.

It is safer and gives accurate results.

GUESS with a V6 or higher, it can be possible. I don't think its possible with a 4 cylinder car, but then depends on the traffic, maybe possible on the Jakande long straight

Possible with a veyron or lambo or a mustang....

Using a salvage Camry on the short distances in between roundabouts and tolls and intersections is less likely

I didn't see where the caption of this thread said "what is the average speed you've driven......." Judge Denn. Don't know what the big deal is about a Camry doing 200km/h because I have done a consistent 200km/h for like 2 mins before my friend actually reminded me that we were actually going for a wedding and not our own funeral in my previous 98 Camry V6. I bet daddy bought you a beemer for ur 20th birthday and you've never gotten behind the wheels of any other car since then. No offence, just saying.

Short speed bursts up to and above 200 is possible in Nigeria just before the next pot hole or uneven patch. Doing it on avg for stretch of above 10 kilometers seem 'miraculous'. That's my surmise.

200kmph for 2 minutes equal a total road lenght of almost 7 kilometres... In Nigeria.

You were reminded to slow down, it could have continued way over 10 kilometers as you were travelling at 55 metres per second. 55 friggin metres of Nigerian road every second. Think about it. You were covering 100 metres in less than 2 seconds. Bolt covers that distance in 9.58 seconds. Five times faster than Bolt.

Almost 10 kilometers non stop....no pause....no slow down....flat off...NIGERIA

Beating a supercharged range on the same road patch is even more worthy of a bed time story.

First tell us about the car in question,...make and model and year.

Wiring , control units, vacuum lines, coolant lines etc...

Don't think of it being impossible....think of how to make it possible then weigh the cost against benefit

If you look closely at the first pic you will notice tiny passages (small holes) there are 2 oil passages (or more) and the rest are coolant passages, designed to keep the engine running cool.

Next pic, cylinder head

Notice the head and the block are separated by a thin gasket, now when you have a blown gasket there's a strong possibility of the following.


1. Loss in pressure

2. Oil mixing in coolant

3. Coolant mixing in oil

4. Oil burning resulting in white smoke

5. Coolant shortage (coolant being burnt in combustion chamber)

The only thing separating, oil, coolant and a mixture of compressed air/petrol is a thin gasket once it's bad, any of the 5 things could happen, including a hydrolock.
