Nigeria is keeping up with year 2000 as regards internet speeds. All the swift, glo etc they are selling to customers are just dial-up system which most technologically advanced countries have discarded.

Fiber optics will never happen in Nigeria cos its too expensive to lay the cables, even if they do average household will not be able to pay the bills.

The best solution to Nigeria's internet is for the ISPs to come together and have collocation agreements to set up Metropolitan Area Networks whereby hotspots will be available in different areas of the country and people will have a sensible internet via wi-fi system.

Or they could resuscitate NITEL and every household subscribe to ADSL lines.

I can decide not to come Nairaland through and use its ip address.

I have heard horror stories of people receiving text messages of fraudulent transfers from their accounts over the week-end and they haven't been refunded cos GT bank could not establish they were fraudulent transactions.

It's actually called a security token. Anytime you want to access your online account you have to input your pin and it generates some random numbers for you to gain a secured access to your account. If they hack your bank account without the token, they would just be licking their lips cos they wouldn't be able to authorize any transaction.

for GTB, they hav been extorting money out of unsuspecting customers through the introduction of their fake pin-pads. dont ever use pin pad for any transaction: they collect N100 per transaction if u use pin pad machine

The "Pin pads" makes your bank account more secure cos the random number generated is authenticated with the server everytime you do an online transaction but charging for it is a rip off.

Hi guys,

I have some issues with my HP Mini Notebook. I sent it back to Hp cos it crashed then got it back WITHOUT all my documents, yes, all my manuscripts! (asking for too much, i know but i was wondering if i could access the files i lost someehere on the backup drive located in My computer (cos there's a drive that says Back up and its like 70% full.

Also, before the notebook crashed, my DH got me a usb cordless plugged mouse and im kinda concerned about using it now cos i think that may have caused the initial malfunction.

Finally, can i please please get a link for free anti virus? (if that exists) cos the system keeps restarting on its own and its kinda annoying.

From my experience if you send your PC to HP for any kind of repairs, they wipe it clean. You could get your data back only if you are sure they didn't change the hard drive and that too is a hit-or-miss.
