Mightymanna:Look at the contemporary history of Iran starting from the days of their democratically elected prime minister Mohammed Mossadeg that was ousted in a CIA and MI6 coup, the exploitation of Iran by US and its western cohorts after Mossadeg was ousted. The 1979 revolution that put an end to western exploitation and the economic sabotage that followed the revolution. If you do a thorough research on this then you won't have problem understanding why Iran needs a robust military programme to defend itself against its oppressors |
Trump2020:Iran didn't fire those missiles with the intention of killing US troops and for them to have achieved that without harming any US soldier shows they are good at what they do, a well caliberated missile strike. They did that to honour their slained General and they passed a message to America that they won't fold their arms and let any country bully them. If Iran wants to arm US troops on a normal day they have proxies all over the region that can achieve that for them but they just had to launch those missiles first by passing a clear message that they are not weak. And i think America got the message by not launching a counter attack, Mr Trump was wise this time. |
Horus:Iran is a big threat to western interest in the middle east hence the antagonism. Iran is the only country that can put and end to US adventurism in that region, America knows this that is why Mr Trump has been calling on NATO countries to be more active in the middle east after Iran struck America's base in Iraq. I don't know how they intend to achieve this after the so called NATO has failed in Afghanistan. |
YorubaLord:You are a liar there is one on nairaland and it's me. ![]() |
Efewestern:"The accuracy revolution is real and no longer a monopoly of the United States. This has huge implications for modern conflict.” Late last year the pentagon released a report that states Iran has an unmatched ballistic missile programme in the middle east, it was an assessment of Iran's ballistic missile programme but now they have seen how deadly and accurate these missiles are in real life. Iran is the second country in the world to have tested anti-ship ballistic missile. This is the missile programme America wants them to abandon while America keeps arming Israel and Saudi Arabia with sophisticated weapons. It won't work Their missile programme is a great deterrent to their aggressors |
lagdmark:What angers me is this their fake democracy of a thing they are preaching when they have crashed democratically elected regimes around the world and installed dictators for their selfish interest epecially countries who took their destinies into their hands by refusing to allow the west to exploit them. The west is evil |
They haven't seen anything. Those who armed and assisted them in overthrowing and killing Gadaffi are the ones scrambling for the oil in Libya. There are different warring factions backed by external actors Libya is the definition of a failed state. |
ursullalinda:Iran was not trying to please her citizens. They activated their air defence systems after firing missiles at US base in Iraq, Iran was in a defensive mode expecting a repraisal attack from US. They mistook the aircraft for one of US heavy bombers. America did this in 1988 when its naval ship shot down an Iranian civilian aircraft over the strait of hormuz killing 290 Iranians onboard. But Iran should have closed its airspace against civilian airliners before firing at US. It was a fatal mistake |
Minjim:It's like you work with the CIA ![]() |
Top Trump administration officials on Sunday morning struggled to defend an airstrike that killed a senior Iranian general this month, acknowledging they could not confirm President Trump’s Friday assertion that Iranians planned to attack four embassies. On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper said he “didn’t see” evidence of an Iranian plan to attack four U.S. embassies. But, he said, he “share[s] the president’s view that probably — my expectation was they were going to go after our embassies. The embassies are the most prominent display of American presence in a country.” On Friday, Trump said Iranian Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, killed by a U.S. drone strike, had been planning attacks on four U.S. embassies, a claim made to justify the decision. That assertion was at odds with intelligence assessments from senior administration officials. On Friday, a senior administration official and a senior defense official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss classified information, told The Washington Post they were only aware of vague intelligence about a plot against the embassy in Baghdad and the information did not suggest a fully formed plan. Neither official said there were threats against multiple embassies. On CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Esper defended the strike on Soleimani, saying it “disrupted attacks” and “reset terms with Iran.” White House national security adviser Robert C. O’Brien also defended the strike, saying on ABC’s “This Week” the Iranian regime is “having a very bad week” and the United States would continue a “maximum pressure campaign” against the regime. He also said the president has shown “incredible restraint” in the face of regular provocation from Iran and has also been “modest in his dealings” with other countries. But O’Brien did not confirm Trump’s claim that the White House had received intelligence that Soleimani, the head of Iran’s elite Quds Force, was planning “imminent” attacks against four U.S. embassies. “What the president said is consistent with what we’ve been saying. We had very strong intelligence that they were looking to kill and maim Americans in American facilities in the region,” O’Brien said on “Fox News Sunday.” Even with the United States’s “exquisite intelligence,” it is difficult “to know exactly what the targets are,” O’Brien said. He added it was fair to anticipate a future Iranian attack “would have hit embassies in at least four countries.” Pressed on why the White House has not revealed more details on the alleged threat they say precipitated the strike, O’Brien said, “I would love to release the intelligence,” but “those same streams and channels” are important to protecting Americans. Top Democrats have pushed back on Esper’s claim that the Gang of Eight congressional leaders was given information on the threat to attack the embassy in Baghdad. Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), a member of the Gang of Eight, contradicted Esper’s assertion on “Face the Nation” about the briefing to Congress, saying it lacked “specificity” about a potential embassy threat. Schiff said he and several members of the Gang of Eight were dissatisfied with the evidence laid out as a basis for the strike. Trump and Esper are “fudging” the details, Schiff added, and “overstating and exaggerating what the intelligence shows.” When it comes to information that could lead to a potential war in Iran, he said, “that’s a dangerous thing to do.” Trump’s claim about threats against embassies was also not part of a Senate briefing earlier this week, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “That was news to me,” he said. “It certainly wasn’t something I recall being raised in the classified briefing.”Lee also savaged the Trump administration for failing to sufficiently justify the strike. He earlier called the briefing the “worst” he’s received in nine years in the Senate. Sen. Christopher A. Coons (D-Del.), also speaking on “Fox News Sunday,” criticized the administration for failing to disclose more specific intelligence during the closed-door briefing.“We got less detailed information there than President Trump shared with Laura Ingraham,” the senator said. Killing Soleimani did eliminate “one of our worst enemies in the Middle East. … But the larger question is, did it make us safer?” Coons said. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said administration officials were “dismissive of Congress,” throughout the briefing on NBC’s “Meet the Press." He also criticized the administration for relying on a George W. Bush-era authorization for military force to justify the attack. “We need to have a full-throated debate in Congress,” he said. “I want to have that debate and bring our kids home.” Sen. Michael F. Bennet (D-Colo.) said on “Meet the Press” that Trump’s actions “strengthened the hard-line wing of the Iranian government." “This is a moment when heightened congressional scrutiny of the president is important no matter who the president is,” said Bennett, who’s also a long-shot contender for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. So you couldn't intercept those missiles? Now i believe something is wrong with U.S air defence systems. |
mrvitalis:The hypocrisy is just too much. Instead of them to try and de-escalate the situation they are supporting their fellow NATO thug. |
No... pls join hahahaha You pushed Donald Trump to this point now you are backing out? Some people would say "Israel will make sure America fights to the last American soldier standing" American leaders should learn how to be independent in the pursuance of their foreign policy, stop allowing Israel to dictate to you. Efewestern what's your opinion on this? |
Iran said it would target Israel, UAE and Saudi Arabia if these countries were used by America to stage an attack on its territory. I think that is still in line with the laws of armed conflict. |
jboixxx:Yes i have tried with another PC i even thought it was my USB ports that have problem i decided to test with my external hard drive and it was detected by my PC but this Wansenda flash drive was not detected. mrsteel:Because Boris Johnson was not the PM then that absolves his country from such crime? How do you people think? You better start preparing for your UTME and stop wasting your time on nairaland. ![]() |
kolafolabi:If you believe that slained General was a terrorist then you can never understand what is happening in that region. Who made America the arbiter of what is right and wrong? Go and look at the history of America's policy in the middle east and in other continents especially Africa, South and central Aamerica then you can conclude who the terrorist is. They called someone a terrorist and he is being celebrated all over the region, they made him popular after death and they've united the shia groups in the region the more. |
We are gradually forgetting the impeachment brouhaha. Mission accomplished Mr Trump |
mysticwarrior:Don't mind the idiot. His country's MI6 and U.S CIA plunged Iran into chaos in 1953 by toppling Iran's democratically elected prime minister Mohammed Mossadeg and installing the corrupt and dictatorial Shah, Reza Pahlavi. That coup was the beginning of Iran's problem a peaceful country. Now hear what the idiot is saying, as if the world has forgotten. We know who the terrorists are. |
The attack has even united Iraq and Iran shia the more to fight a common enemy and it will cement Iran's interest in Iraq and elsewhere in the region. It was a wrong move by America |
When will the middle east have rest? This recent move by America has even strengthen the resolve of different armed group in the region i hope this won't come back to haunt the U.S. Middle east the region of chaos. |
danilmo:Lmao |
This is not a state sponsored hacking. This can be done by any hacker in and outside Iran who is not pleased with what US did recently. Even a script kiddie can do that. You people think Iran would retaliate by just defacing a website? Lol. A country that has hacked into US drones over its airspace in the past. |
