UK should have thought about the rights and sovereignty of China and Hong Kong before they forcefully took away Hong Kong from China. Oh yeah it's about being strong or weak. China was weak then and China even displayed more weakness by allowing the autonomous status for Hong Kong.

Go and read about power in international politics it is that power that Britain used against China when it took HK from her in 1843. China now has power to take back what belongs to her. Autonomous status be damned, international law be damned, when you have power no bloody imperialist can dictate to you how you should manage your affair.

So why must HK go back to it's former status if the people of HK does not concent to it? It's not all about China vs the UK. The people being fought over should have a say. They could vote to stay, fine but nothing will settle all this dispute after that.

Hong kong has autonomous status for a period of time and China signed in on that agreement. It would have been best for them to patiently wait for the duration to expire before taking over Hong kong as agreed.

If care is not taken those people will start clamouring for total independence from China, that's what Britain actually wants. China does not want to lose HK to Britain.
