ThatCEO:
There is nothing like education in Nigeria. Maybe sometimes in the next 50 years, we will get it right.

A few differences.

1. our Practice of waiting 2 weeks to exam before reading cannot work there.

2. Exams are meant to see if you can perform a task not to see who can score the highest.

3. To buttress point 3, you are usually allowed to bring as much materials as you like. Nobody is expecting you to cram any formula.

4. There are people who can help you in the lab. Students usually help each other, if you don't know how to use an equipment, it is because you are proud. FULL STOP.

5. You don't need to do any PGD or whatever, the first semester will be hard but that's it, you get to blend.

6. Nigerians usually believe they can perform better than a white man given the same educational background. I say this to you...SHAT-TAP-THERE.

7. Our first class is meant for the one who can cram the most. Their first is not meant for crammers, is not meant for the most brilliant, but is meant for the consistent student who does the basics well.
God bless you. Most Nigerian graduates suffer from the crowd mentality. They carry a false superiority complex. Thank God for private unis that is exposing them gradually.

I want suggest to Seun that Nairaland adopts topic approval. Let mods approve topics before they are added to the Nairaland DataBase. This way data backup doesn't become bloated and people like this OP are kept in check.

all these are caused partly by govt meddling in business instead of leaving it to private hands. Can that letter be presented to a Chinese or Lebanese factory (business) owner? I doubt it.

LAUTECH is a tech school. Everyone has 5 years, except MBBS students. The reason for the extended 1 year is because of density of coursework. Even the "4-year courses" are densely packed.

I could remember the semester with the least number of coursework in my department is Year 3 Harmattan, where 9courses are mandatory. It was usual to have 11,12,10...Ironically that year 3 was the toughest really, you will be driven to the end of your wits.

If you presume those courses are simple courses with light workload, you might as well do an extensive research from any Undergrad studying Electrical Engineering.
Engineering is diff from other courses.
Education › Re: Students Of Government Owned Universities Should Deflate Their Bloated Ego by Desyner:
The things that make private uni above public unis in standard are many. Some of those things are:
1) Shorter period to study heavier workload in pulic uni. The average student in public uni has extra time to study redundant materials because of strike.
2) Sorting, cheating, blackmail and outright Grade falsification.
Come to think of the effects of grade falsification, you sort part of your workload, cheat to pass some, blackmail, as well as falsify grades through backdoor. At the end you barely earned 40% of your degree.
3) Buying of certificates. Think about those who buy their certs, will they go for a third class or a 2:1 ?
They go for the better piece of paper and start claiming they are equivalent of 1st Class in private uni. Pathetic.

There are more than 50 million Hausas/Fulanis in this nation. Are you saying that NOT EVEN ONE OF THEM is capable of good?
"What good have they done?" is different from "Are they capable of any good?" stop spewing trash around mr man and answer the question.

Your inclination to believe that the Hausas cannot do any good in Nigeria puts you at a disadvantage for any sane argument and that is why I won't humour you on this. Your deep rooted hatred for another HUMAN BEING who happens to be born in another region of the country is simply pitiable.
What good have they done that is too heavy for your deceptive fingers to type?

Check Your history....

1953... the North said they were nor ready for independence.... The rest of the country said no, no, no...
Same as 1958...

The truth was the North was not ready... 7 years after Independence the same North front a civil war back by the British to destroy Nigeria... all our 4 refinery, killed, psychology killed... human resources killed... up to 3 million..

Are can we be this dumb.... The North are not ready for restructuring.

The Biafrans are ready to die for their biafra (and many have died recently) , The North also for their anti-restructuring

who is fighting for your restructuring...
Is Elder Clark... that is now smiling and singing a new song... after meeting osibanjo...

Young man 90% of those shouting Restructuring can easily be bought over... with cash or appointment.

If you want restructuring... lead the fight... start with "Restructuring or Death"... You might go to jail for sometime ... but your followership would be massive.
Only mørøns won't like restructuring. When the north said they were not ready for independence pre-1960, was it as a result of lack of mosques or for lack of schools?
Fast forward to post-2011, they are building mosques and rejecting the same education they said they lacked. If they keep multiplying at the alarming rate they multiply and oil revenue can only get worse now, is it the islam that impoverished them that will save them? Use your brain mr man.

That is his opinion and he's entitled to it, just as you and your ilk are to yours.

Calling him or his people a "parasite" is low of you. These are the types of things that have landed the Igbo ethnicity into its current altercations with Arewa.

Why do you think they are parasites? What exactly do you have that they don't? Or is it your palm oil from Oguta or Ukwa East that is catching you?

Hausas feed the nation and don't complain about it.

You guys should learn some respect and have some dignity.
You must be suffering from illiteracy. How did Hausa feed the nation please? Does the Hausa man pay tax when he farms and sell or does he donate his farm produce to the FG in exchange for 13%?
Plus name one thing the illiterate north produces that isn't cheaper and better when imported? Rice? Flour? Yam? Cassava? Palm oil? Sugar? Beans? Or Islam?

Lukgaf:
Great Nairalanders,

The issue of Electricity in this blessed country has been my great concerns especially in the area I found myself. Even, they hardly give 30 minutes power in some places and it is not an overstatement that many places have Electricity only when they (NEPA or PHCN or Distribution Companies or what is their name called) want to distribute Electricity bills. This is annoying a times.

I called a Master in China who said he has experienced uninterrupted power supply since he got there since 3 months ago.

So do you think Nigeria can be like those countries in terms of electricity and what measures do you think we can use?

Nice one.... So the illiterate buffoons agree that it is Biafran oil that feeds them while their children, servants and slaves come here to shout otherwise.

Brown-toothed gworo-chewing almajiris, you have so much food yet remains the posterboys for starvation, disease, famine and war in the whole of Africa.

The other parts of the world have eradicated polio decades ago yet you still battle with the disease because you are cursed by God for your numerous atrocities.

The era where you get away with killings are over, you will be smashed this time with much more greater force in retaliation. We are waiting.
The undoing of the Igbo man this time around will be his affinity to ND's oil.

Simple sense you haven't made with these your write up and it shows you don't have any knowledge as regards the LAUTECH but I'll enlighten you.
1. The lecturers ante not against the audit. Let them get some form of payment and school activities resume that way it's a win win for the students, the lecturers and government

2. Lautech courses are for 5yrs not 4 and if we count the incessant strikes we've used 7yrs for a 5yr course.

3. I can't judge the private university curriculum because I've not been in any but I'll tell you something the state schools have basically the worst curriculum you can ever come across. Most of the teaching methods are outdated.
The only point I'll agree with you on is the fact that the LAUTECH system is a joke and last point Tinubu is a f**cking devil. He's the chancellor of the school he hasn't done anything to help over 40,000 student. infact all Nigerian politicians are f*cked up
