NIGERIANS ARE FIGHTING THEMSELVES RATHER THAN FIGHTING INVADERS FROM CHAD, NIGER, AND MALI. CHIOOORRRRR. AND WHERE ARE THE SOLDIERS MEANT TO PROTECT US FROM EXTERNAL AGRESSION? From your post quoted above, u had to quit what u initially planned to achieve because of actions of clergy men. Isnt that shameful on your part? My point is, for anyone to be faithful he/she must be steadfast and enduring no matter the circumstance. This is my honest view.
My intention has been not to engage with you on this any further. But let me correct one misconception on your part. I graduated from the seminary without proceeding to ordination “because upon seeing the in and out of the church, especially the antics of the clergy, and concluding that it utterly stinks” If the education you received at LASU (I do have my reservations about the quality of education currently offered in LASU and Nigerian Universities in general, but would leave that for the moment) betrayed your English comprehension, I’ll simplify this for you.

The reason I didn’t take up ordination was because I HAD SEEN THE “IN” AND “OUT” OF THE CHURCH. This is a very loaded statement, exemplified by ONE example: the antics of the clergy. In other words, what ordinary church members didn’t know was happening, I had seen, and these, for me, was antithesis of what Christianity stands for. As such, for me to join the band wagon is simply to deceive myself and others, which I wasn’t prepared to do.

The majority of Nigerians I have personally met and helped in the Diaspora are ingrats, and I took a similar decision over two yers ago. Now, I'm less concerned about anyone going thorugh thick and thin. I only wish them well but offer no help.

CHARLOE:
By d posts am seeing here its obvious pple are begining to shine their eye well-well! I for one used to respect 'daddy' alot, that's  until of recent. He looks so calm and gentle, talks softly and dresses simple; u just can't help but respect him (there're many others like him around, no need mentioning names). I started having doubts when i heard him say some strange, unlikely 'miracles'. Deep down my heart i found them hard to believe (am sure u've heard some urself).
Needless to say, Nigerians fear their pastors like God, pastors should be respected not feared, FEAR GOD ONLY! It has gotten to d extent they don't want to hear anything -ve bout their pastors, even when they're true. On d day of d morning devotion i mentioned earlier, when i pointed this error out, a hot argument ensued with my siblings. Pst adeboye is so feared/respected in my family nobody wanted to hear me out, to them he can do no wrong. Unfortunately, alot of xtians are like that, their papa/G.O. is superhuman and can do no wrong, always quick in comparing them to old testament prophets of old- Elija, Elisha and so on.  So anything he says, true & false, is swallowed hook, line & sinker by their gullible and pathetic followers, like zombies.
I want to encourage us to 'prove all things' like d bible says, fear no man but God, 'By their fruits u shall know them'. Let's maximise d power of d internet and expose these LIONS IN SHEEP CLOTHING. I believe we can start an online revolution against these men of god 'dog' and the corrupt, evil rulers/politicians working against d progress of this nation. (funny enough, these 2 classes of pple work hand-in-hand TO IMPOVERISH NIGERIANS). Their relationship is mutually beneficial, if u know what i mean. Right now, i'm just so filled with 'righteous indignation'! angry

@ toba: Your low level reasoning capacity made you pitch your clumsy argumentation very low so much so that I really do not wish to engage with you on this matter, but before calling it a day with you, I'll take you up on a statement you unthoughtfully made: "with pple like u around whose faithfulness can easily be influenced, i dnt think Jesus will have faithful pple if he returns." Would Jesus find faith in church leaders (Priests, Bishops, Pastors, GOs, etc) involved in  financial misconducts, church leaders who sexually abuse and assault children and vulnerable women, church leaders engaged in false biblical teachings, church leaders stage-managing miracles, and church leaders who only establish churches in £, € & $ economies?

For sure, Winners Chapel, RCCG, Rhema Chapel, etc, etc, has no branches in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq. If anyone can verifiably prove me wrong, I'll donate half of my monthly wage for the month of March to the church that has a congregation in any of these locations. But, I bet, they're not there, you'll only find them in £, € & $ economies.

@ toba: Here we go again. Typical NL thread derailment -- leaving the reality to chase the shadow. If you're not knowledgeable enough to adequately and intelligently answer this question, you should have just move on after reading it. I'm not asking you to judge my decisions. I've never regretted those decisions after more than 10 years. The question you and others on NL are asked to answer is: When The Son Of Man Comes, Will He Find Faith On The Earth? However, if you wish to commence a thread which examines whether or not seminarians learn about God/Jesus in seminaries, and whether or not seminarians are sheep who knows their shepherd, you're welcome to do so, and I'll be glad to throw more light into that for you. Presumably you were never a seminarian and never knew what went on behind the gates of a theological seminary.
Christianity EtcWhen The Son Of Man Comes, Will He Find Faith On The Earth? by Devonian(op): 6:52pm On Mar 21, 2010
Considering what we’re hearing and seeing on a daily basis in different Christian denominations: sexual and financial misconducts amongst church leaders, screwed biblical teachings, and stage-managed miracles, to mention a few, is there anyone out there who can wholeheartedly say that at Jesus’ second coming, he will find faith on the earth (Luke 18 v 8 )? As for me, after spending 7 years in a theological seminary where I studied philosophy and theology in preparation for the priesthood; after quitting because upon seeing the in and out of the church, especially the antics of the clergy, and concluding that it utterly stinks; after completing a doctoral research into Pentecostalism, Materialism and Hypocrisy (In Press), I’m in serious doubt. But, ‘am I just being pessimistic?

why not be on the safe side and
let God judge them, not you
Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? (1 Corinthians 6:2).

It is this attitude of "Leave him/her for God to judge" which has destroyed Nigeria. Rather than make people accountable for whatever they've done wrong, ssome of us Nigerians often say, let's leave him/her alone, God would judge, and things would continue to degenerate to the point where Pastors would engage in 419 activities and GOs would say nothing. What has the GO of the RCCG officially declared in relation to his pastors misbehaving at national and international levels? Shall we continue to sin and ask that grace abound? Thank gosh, I've turned my back on the church.
Christianity EtcRe: Disbelief In The Pulpit by Devonian(m): 9:05pm On Mar 20, 2010
Many pastors, priests, bishops, archbishops and Popes are like station attendants, popularly known as and called "agberos." These station attendants or "agberos" help commuters to get the right busses, coaches, trains, etc, ultimately arriving at their chosen/expected destinations. However, the station attendants or "agberos" themselves never leave the bus/coach/train stations. If, in deed, the biblical notions of heaven and hell are true (am not an atheist, but lean towards agnosticism), whilst many pastors, priests, bishops, archbishops and popes might, themselves, end up in the lake of fires, those whom they've shown the truth, the way and life might make it into heaven.

This is actually not new. To my mind, it's in deed a growing trend (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/393479.stm; http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-13001983.html ; http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article540199.ece ). And, when you consider the fact that what many pastors and priests do (e.g. the recent finanical scandals involving RCCG pastors like Erastus Akingbola and Pastor Wale Adebajo; sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church; and, fake miraculous claims made by some Pentecostal preachers; you cannot but wonder if these pastors and priests really believe what they procalim from the pulpits.

Please allow the RCC Priests to s.h.a.g because, historically speaking, some Popes were not only sexually active during their pontificates, but also practised homosexuality. So, what are we talking about?

    * Pope Sergius III (904–911) was supposedly the father of Pope John XI by Marozia, according to Liutprand of Cremona in his Antapodosis[23], as well as the Liber Pontificalis[24]. However it must be noted that this is disputed by another early source, the annalist Flodoard (c. 894-966), John XI was brother of Alberic II, the latter being the offspring of Marozia and her husband Alberic I. Hence John too may have been the son of Marozia and Alberic I. Bertrand Fauvarque underlines that the contemporary sources backing up this parenthood are dubious, Liutprand being "prone to exaggeration" while other mentions of this fatherhood appear in satires written by supporters of late Pope Formosus.[25]

    * Pope John X (914–928) had romantic affairs with both Theodora and her daughter Marozia, according to Liutprand of Cremona in his Antapodosis[26]: "The first of the popes to be created by a woman and now destroyed by her daughter". (See also Saeculum obscurum)

    * Pope John XII (955–963) (deposed by Conclave) was said to have turned the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano into a brothel and was accused of adultery, fornication, and incest (Source: Patrologia Latina).[27] The monk chronicler Benedict of Soracte noted in his volume XXXVII that he "liked to have a collection of women". According to Liutprand of Cremona in his Antapodosis[28], "they testified about his adultery, which they did not see with their own eyes, but nonetheless knew with certainty: he had fornicated with the widow of Rainier, with Stephana his father's concubine, with the widow Anna, and with his own niece, and he made the sacred palace into a whorehouse." According to The Oxford Dictionary of Popes, John XII was "a Christian Caligula whose crimes were rendered particularly horrific by the office he held".[29]He was killed by a jealous husband while in the act of committing adultery with the man's wife.[30][31][32][33] (See also Saeculum obscurum)

    * Pope Benedict IX (1032–1044, again in 1045 and finally 1047–1048) was said to have conducted a very dissolute life during his papacy.[34] Accused by Bishop Benno of Piacenza of "many vile adulteries and murders."[35][36] Pope Victor III referred in his third book of Dialogues to "his rapes, murders and other unspeakable acts. His life as a Pope so vile, so foul, so execrable, that I shudder to think of it."[37] It prompted St. Peter Damian to write an extended treatise against sex in general, and homosexuality in particular. In his Liber Gomorrhianus, St. Peter Damian recorded that Benedict "feasted on immorality" and that he was "a demon from hell in the disguise of a priest", accusing Benedict IX of routine sodomy and bestiality and was said to have sponsored orgies.[38] In May 1045, Benedict IX resigned his office to pursue marriage, selling his office for 1,500 pounds of gold to his godfather, the pious priest John Gratian, who named himself Pope Gregory VI.[39]

    * Pope Alexander VI (1492–1503) had a notably long affair with Vannozza dei Cattanei before his papacy, by whom he had his famous illegitimate children Cesare and Lucrezia. A later mistress, Giulia Farnese, was the sister of Alessandro Farnese, who later became Pope Paul III. He fathered a total of at least seven, and possibly as many as ten illegitimate children.[40] (See also Banquet of Chestnuts)

Suspected to have had male lovers during pontificate

    * Pope Paul II (1464–1471) was alleged to have died of a heart attack while in a sexual act with a page.[41]

    * Pope Sixtus IV (1471–1484) was alleged to have awarded gifts and benefices to court favorites in return for sexual favors. Giovanni Sclafenato was created a cardinal by Sixtus IV for "ingenuousness, loyalty,, and his other gifts of soul and body",[42] according to the papal epitaph on his tomb.[43] Such claims were recorded by Stefano Infessura, in his Diarium urbis Romae.

    * Pope Leo X (1513–1521) was alleged to have had a particular infatuation for Marc-Antonio Flaminio.[44]

    * Pope Julius III (1550–1555) was alleged to have had a long affair with Innocenzo Ciocchi del Monte. The Venetian ambassador at that time reported that Innocenzo shared the pope's bedroom and bed.[45] According to the The Oxford Dictionary of Popes, he was "naturally indolent, he devoted himself to pleasurable pursuits with occasional bouts of more serious activity".[46]

Christianity EtcRe: Should Catholic Priests be Allowed to Get Married? by Devonian(m): 5:21pm On Mar 18, 2010
1. Some Roman Catholic Priests, especially those who relocated from Anglicanism, are married, living wither their families (wives and children).

2. You need to know what's going on in Ireland at the very moment.

a) Donal Murray, the Bishop of Limerick had called it a Day over the way he covered up intimacy scandals in his diocese (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/ireland/6833245/Irish-church-intimacy-abuse-scandal-Bishop-of-Limerick-resigns-over-damning-report.html ).

b) It has come to light today that the incumbent Catholic Bishop of Derry secretly paid a girl who, at the age of 8, was subjected by a priest to sexual assaults and abuses for over the next ten years of her life (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/mar/18/irish-catholic-church-child-abuse ).  I am sure that he's come to the end of his ministerial journey. He would have to resign in the next few days because. His position is no longer tenable.

c) The incumbent Primate of the Catholic Church in Ireland is also fighting for his position for failing to report a priest who sexually molested children to the civil authorities some years back. Abp Brady is also under pressure to resign (http://www.meathchronicle.ie/opinion/comment/articles/2010/03/18/3995664-cardinal-under-pressure-over-failure-to-challenge-culture-of-secrecy/ ).

3. The Pope is also VERY FALLIBLE in this matter, news emerging from Germany shows he allegedly failed to manage Priests’ sexual misconduct which took place within his jurisdiction whilst he was Cardinal Ratzinger in Germany (http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1972306,00.html?xid=feed-yahoo-full-world-related )

4. It’s really incredible! RCC Priest should be allowed to marry. As someone has rightly pointed out on this thread, celibacy isn’t dogma or scripture. It’s about RCC Canon which is man-made. Man should therefore change it, considering some of them are already married with children. After all, Peter, whom RCC considers as the First Pope was married. This is my 2 pence worth contribution.

A United Nations report has warned that new HIV infections are increasing among homosexuals, drug users and pro.stitu.tes.

Michel Sidibe, the head of UNAids, told journalists at an event hosted by the United Nations Foundation that in China and Africa about 33% of new HIV infections involved homosexual activities, a significant increase.

But he blamed the rises on countries with repressive laws against homosexuality.

Mr Sidibe said drug users are also getting the HIV virus which causes Aids in high numbers.

Of 16 million people worldwide who are injecting drugs, almost three million are HIV positive, and among them fewer than 4% have access to treatment.
