UkwuAmu: Like you are most times for the bolded . Nothing is conclusive yet and Aiteo is in the picture right now. Aiteo is bidding for upstream assets and are favoured to get one . You must realize that you have become a kind of cult figure for some people in this forum and they take what you say as gospel truth because we are incredulously gullible people . The same reason why a prophet will see Air malaysia airline crashing but not see his building collapse . I would advise you to slow down .

People on a forum like this can make investment decision based on this and the end of the day, the deal might not go through.

mpi210: Myjoy08, FO told the stock exchange clearly that discussions on the proposed acquisition (NOTE, they never mentioned oando) is still in its infancy
My oga, please remember that a prophet only sees future things.

In this case for instance, that which was seen by FO as being in its INFANCY has been extrapolated to an ADVANCED stage of development.

omaojo1: 8,869,060,738. That is the OS that was used to reach an EPS of 1.23 using a profit of 8,980,014,000.

#oandonoknowmaths
And if they had to reach that number by deducting any pre-negotiated dividends on preferred stock based on that same net income, the result of that mathematical operation would be a reduction in the EPS.

The only way that EPS can be 1.23 is either by an increase in reported net income (while keeping the denominator constant) or by a (reconstructed) version of the total number of shares outstanding (keeping the numerator constant).

All sarcasm aside, I'm happy for the portfolios that contain oxygen right now. Please celebrate your moment. You deserve it. Your vigils and your cries have reached the heavens and now WT has been inspired to deliver.

As for me, I comfort myself with the fact that there are many ways to make a million naira, but I'll give two extremes; you either sell a N1m item to one person or you sell a N1 item to a million suckers.

omaojo1: The NSE 30 is what they will be tracking, so it is an established benchmark already. The total amount they are seeking to raise is 1 billion naira.

Yes, they are expecting allocation by funds and retail investors, but it is what they can always provide and ask those 'dudes at BusinessDay' to report it as oversubscribed.

I think they are taking after Vetiva. "If Vetiva can, why can't we? After all, we are the market leader".
grin

My oga, no mind me, you just reminded me that Vetiva has done this. Thanks bruv.

But statistically, should it even matter that an ETF is tracking the 30 most capitalized stocks on the NSE? Considering that this set of assets represent more than 90% of the total market capitalization?
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Dexterax(m): 12:03pm On Sep 22, 2014
omaojo1: That is it my Oga.

The Stanbic IBTC ETF 30 readily comes to mind. Why should I be buying into the 30 most capitalized stocks on our bourse at this time? I will only buy into it after the general elections. And if you ask me, that is the time they should have come for listing.

When I say after the general elections, I do not mean to say the elections will not be successful, it is that the guys in Aso Rock will not be needing our votes again and will therefore do the needful economically. This needful economic measures will all thing being equal, adverse to the stock market.
I'm actually thinking these StanbicIBTC guys listed this ETF just to establish some market benchmark. We both appreciate that there'll be a flurry of market activities after the elections.

It's possible that they created it to meet international client requests for a useful benchmark by which portfolio investments in Nigeria can be analyzed.

If they're expecting a major portfolio rotation into that ETF by fund managers or retail investors, they're really mistaken.

daemperor1: How is part of a thing more valuable than the whole? undecided

Also, since part of what Transcorp shareholders hold would be sold as a different entity, how would they be compensated and how is that suppose to cause a rally? huh

Disclosure:Newbie
At 38.72 billion shares, Transcorp's shares outstanding is 48.4 times the proposed size of the Transcorp Hotel listing. If Transcorp were to do a share reconstruction, reducing the number of shares outstanding, that would effectively revise the price of the stock upwards (this does not translate to value accretion). Whether the N10 listing price is a premium or a discount to the fair value of the Hotel component is a question of the valuation of the business and it's prospects.

However, it's actually possible for a component of a conglomerate to be more valuable than the entire conglomerate. Technical papers have given evidence of this in the tendency for the divestment of assets (becoming smaller) to create value while mergers and acquisitions (becoming bigger) have value-destroying tendencies. Power law effects and the vague Pareto Principle should come to mind here.

Normally, existing shareholders of Transcorp should be allotted prorated units of Transcorp Hotel. But considering the jungle features of our local bourse, I can't type for certainty that this will be the case.

We may have to make room for a possible Cowboy Twist on this IPO.

Either way, good luck Transcorpians.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Dexterax(m): 9:40am On Sep 22, 2014

Cowboys sha. All in all, this IPO will most likely be oversubscribed. The boys have made sure of that, re. my post on SMN.

Oga, its statements of hope like these that finally break the hearts of investors & speculators.

Consider that one of our own has been missing for a while now, possibly overwhelmed by recent developments in the oil & gas space.

To achieve PERFECT ALIGNMENT with the timing and motives of cowboys and turn that hope into reality, you may need to join the boards of the companies you're invested in.

Otherwise, your only comfort is the fact that you're another participant in this prediction business where we continually remind ourselves that even the range of uncertainty is also uncertain.
