phnibeogu: yeah, its an open thread, was thinking i will get input from them, well if not the outlander, i love the 07-11 civic, does it have leg pull issues? what about parts and price? is it more compared to the 03-08 corolla? thanks for your response
I think you are confusing yourself.(started from sedans to CUVs now back to sedans again) why not start from what you want in the said car you wish to get. the road u wish to b driving such a car(i mean d area u live) etc den we know if it's a sedan/cuv/suv dat would suite u.
I will always take d civic u mentioned ova dat corolla anyday. bt if d road I ply frequently is nt good I would go 4 d corrola coss of ground clearance
phnibeogu: thanks a lot, can i include Mitsubishi outlander to the cuv list? cos i love that more than those two you mentioned is it good? 2005 and 2007 models?
yeah the outlander looks better than those two, am not really conversant with the outlander. you could ask auto experts such as kingreign, Gazzuzz, denn, siena, mayor2013, and the likes. also nurey, dat guy can do thorough research for you.
OP, Going by all that have been said, my candid advice for you. buy your self dat camry, to save yourself unnecessary wahala, it is obvious u don't have good mechanics around you. ikenna, Gazzuzz et al recommending you a Peugeot are mechanics. if you think you can access good Peugeot mechanics then go for the Peugeot. kingreign was just blunt about it. congratulations in advance on which ever you choose
alablec: i will pick the 2003 corolla if i can ascertain this things about it 1. the gear is in top notch condition 2. the engine does not overheat 3. if it doesnt show any check engine light 4. the under of the car hasnt rust away
All other problems i believe are minor and can be easily fixed.
Nice one; very insightful! Thanks.
there r more 2 a 9ja used car. 1. how long it has bin used 2. which area(location) 3. has the engine /transmision Bunn worked on b4 4. why the owner is selling. 5. how much abuse it has been subject to 6. ........ but the main thing is dat u need a good mechanic or someone who knows well about cars for physical examination.
not only the 9ja used in fact the three. coming online will only point to the 2003 corolla,(the most recent) I will also pick the 2003 corolla because it's more recent.
phnibeogu: whats the best to buy at 1.3/4... please dont tell me corrola and camry, i can do civic or any other good car
Honda cars r good, d civic or accord is nt bad. you can get an EOD within that range or toyota's luxury : d lexus ES300(d one similar to big daddy) or a solara
aieromon: Clapping for the real stunts guy......the slowpoke on the door
The prowess of their stuuupidity can't be matched, the drivers the guys hanging by the doors the spectators the iiidiot who went to the middle of the road.
I believe if the government could create more jobs a handful of them wouldn't be there in the 1st instance
kingreign: na when she go buy am n as the car age, she go import wheel studs and nut just for replacement of one defective wheel stud and nut then you go know say the guy no yarn myopic yarn.
canadianprince: My dear, I feel the SUV is much safer in the event of collision with sedan vehicles (not that I am praying for that to happen, but the highway is always full of uncertainty), and secondly, the SUV seems to better and fit for the poor conditions of our Nigerian roads. I hate to be driving while my bumper, exhaust and the lower section of my vehicle will be crashing and wearing off by touching the ground, most especially areas where the road is not so good. I have seen it happen to people's vehicle, and the only remedy was to raise the shock and suspension. I want to avoid that.
nurey: Goodluck bro, I don't know that route, but follow Idarachodb's advice of carrying some extra things, like fluids, extra spare tyre, filter, belt and other things you can think off and hope your headlamp is now bright, you don't want to be driving with dim headlamp at night
seems ogawisdom has bought another car, he doesn't speak much of that said car.
beta don't waste money yet, a lot can be responsible. it might be a simple fuse. but wat happened too getting mechanic to check, abi are dey dat bad dat u can't trust dem at all? more over u didn't say whether it cranked, if it didn't crank it my be the timing. donnt buy yet. my 2 cents
abolore80: It's not all about speeding or over-speeding. It's about confidence, being attentive and maintaining a steady speed. Like I said earlier, op was agitated, curious, and got distracted by other cars. 80-100mph is a good spead at any time.
With that speed, you can easily and quickly respond to any urgent pop-ups, or powering down to dodge a pot hole and mostly importantly have a idea of how the engine is performing. Travelling isn't about race, but about getting to your destination. Op forgot about this because he was agitated.
The capacity of the engine does not matter, but how you handle and drive it, is what matters. With 80-100mph and occasional 120mph will get you to your destination even if you arrive an hour late late after those flying hummer buses.
I challenge you, if you're a Nigerian, get that vehicle fixed and drive it back to lagos yourself. You stand to gain a lot of experience from that. Atleast, you won't be road jjc again. There's always a first time and you've had your own fair share.
nurey: I wish ooo but with my field and the kind of job I enjoy doing, it's a challenge between toyota tahcoma, Nissan frontier and toyota hilux, hustling no easy nowadays
Tacoma no try,(my opinion though) choose Hilux or the Frontier. God bless ur hustle, I pray what u went to do far north would be successful cheers.
MPVGoddess: I feel for him, if pity na consideration, provided him go gree drive the damn thing back to Lagos, na him go get am. Afterall, he is just starting life, no be corper him be? if the moto upgrade, to sell am no go hard, so boy go fit buy better horsepower, at least 150 horsepower if not more!
he might be considering Venza V6. abi nurey ¿ the car is not too big for you, u will enjoy the drive, power and effizy.
sultaan: You might be in luck, usually it is the 12v battery just just borrow one from a car and jumpstart from the terminal in the relay box up front.
When it starts then replace the battery near spare tire in the back you can also jump start from the back too.
nurey: AS you all enjoyed and followed me on this thread, you know th state of my car, this Is a clarion call fo you all to go to this page www.nairaland.com/2705006/thread-free-paint-job/1#39787134 and like my post there so my car can win the paint job a lots of goodies that comes with it. Thank you
cc ogawisdom, coldplay007, denn, kingreign, Siena, lonelydora, specialist900, opeexclusive04, DisGuy, MPVGoddess, Bossforeva, DGD1, princemedico, abolore80, adanny01, IdaraCHODB and all please I really need your likes

richkol: Please, car gurus in the house, what type of good and easy to maintain car can one get for 700k - 800k. Prefarably Toks. Please do not limit your advice to Toyota alone.
over a hundred type and model of cars fall within that range, u need to narrow it to wat yuh want from a car, design, ground clearance, space, sedan, wagon, etc
nurey: I will accept all you have said. You have done well by not keeping quiet and giving me the best advice because someday, the car will still need to head back to lagos I doubt if a rebuilt engine can go that distance. I will start saving up for a new engine and dispose the car I wish this hadn't happened I was about to upgrade to another ride.
eyaa, no one is above mistake, let me guess anxiety for today's trip caused all this. it happens, just put ur head up, yuh are a man, doont cry over spilt milk, am sure you have learnt your lesson. weda the car is tokunbo or tear rubber, after driving dat long, everything needed be checked.
Opeexclusive04: Oga menh! There is no other shorter route to ensure the car hits road... me wey don dey drive prius for my dream since last night
Loools eyaa, I feel ur pains bro. Alot of thoughts would av run through ur minnd since yesterday abt how you would cruise dat car round town feeling fly, only to discover it's not possible. God will bless ur hustle, you would soon buy car of ur choice by God's grace
nurey: at that mania filling station where I bought food I asked for akure I guess that's my mistake, I should have asked for owo instead
If yuh asked for akure, d person who directed yuh would av told yuh to just go straight (actually mean yuh turn by the left inward the round about) . there is always a 1st tym, yuh won't make the mistake next time. sorry 4 d wheel covers, try buying clip (#70) to hold dem next tym. don't be intimidated by doz hiace buses and hilux, it's because it's ur 1st time, it happened to me in 2011 when I 1st drove to abuja, now I dust dem well.(not all bt most, some of them have death wish)
nurey: I never touched the bread, ate only the Akara and am ok, I don't know where I went wrong but I lost the way so far that I even entered akure town. The roads were not kind to me
yuh miss road no b small, from where yuh bought Akara it's left yuh should av taken, in abt an hour yuh would b in akure(roadblock) den proceed straight to owo b4 yuh turn left too akungba. any ways yuh just did touring! safe bruh
FlyboyZee: It is an upgraded Camry. In other words, it is a bigger, better, bolder version of the Camry. Lol...
Toyota marketed the Avalon as a replacement for the Toyota Cressida, a model discontinued for the American market in 1992. While the Cressida was an upper-level midsize rear-wheel-drive car with a straight-six engine, the Avalon is front-wheel-drive, powered by a V6 engine. In recent years, there has been considerable overlapping with its platform mates, the Toyota Camry V6 and the Lexus ES, although the third-generation Avalon was distinguished by offering extra legroom. For its fourth generation, the Avalon was introduced on a platform that is shared with the Lexus ES. (Culled from: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Avalon)
