Thanks DGD1,

Saw lots of mixes comments in the threads.

One can't shy away from the fact that all car brands will always hv a good and bad side. Just been careful as not to buy a brand that will be a "mechanic's lab rat"

you welcome.
lol @ "lab rat"

mayor2013 is a trusted guy (good mechanic), he has spoken.
Thank God you are changing your option.
how much is your budget (range)

GDI, Hmmmmmmn.
my advice is to 1st find a competent mechanic for it(if you are buying cheap) .
a lot of folks have issues with their's without tangible solution.
you can search for mitsubishi GDI Here on nairaland and you will find a thread for it.

Car Talk / Re: Camry Or Avensis? by DGD1(m): 4:26pm On Dec 05, 2015
Bakersfield:

Please do not dream of avensis. You will surely regret it. Camry tiny light 1999 /2000 model ok for. Considering all the factors you

mentioned, fuel economy, ruggedness, availability of spare parts and affordable, the engine can withstand our extreme weather.

Please i beg you go for Camry, you will get value for your hard earned money. The car is common is a defeatist idea. Go for the best.

Do not forget that ability to maintain a vehicle is the key factor. Good luck

have you driven the said avensis before?

have you owned one before?

do you have a close relationship with anyone who used/uses the said avensis?

are you a mechanic?

are you a car dealer?

on what ground should he run from the said avensis?

i just wonder where some people get their facts.

when I bought my 1999 camry pencil, a friend got his own too. same day, same dealer @ kotonu.
fast forward to 5yrs after, my camry is still solid with stock engine, transmision, radiator etc. but my friend's car didn't last one year, he had to buy another.
maintenance culture was the thing.

@ OP, that car is rugged, friendly and everything an average user would need in a car.

From experience I won't do 100 on that truck talk less of 120
120 is like a death wish
That path has a high roll over risk all what it needs is a lil sharp steer and you are off balance

oh my bad,
I've not driven dat suv before. I was judging based on toyota 4runner 2002 sports edition I drive frequently this days. this one balance well at 140km/hr at rpm of 3000 max. it's speedometer iss also max at 180km/hr.
Car Talk / Re: I Need Help by DGD1(m): 8:20am On Dec 04, 2015
kolnel:
Truck might have a speed limiter if you attain 120 on low rpm
But seriously 120 on a Nissan Pathfinder is more than enough

Yeah, possibly a speed limiter.
I think that suv is 180km/hr, 120 is nt too much let's say 140km/hr is ok (u r d speed type) on naija good (patched) roads.
NOTE: higher you go, higher rollover risk in d case of dodging potholes

03 to 09 4runner came in two grades
4.7ltr v8 engine --- cast iron engine+, timing belt- == common faults/cracked exhaust manifold, timing belt failure, air induction pump failure..real PITA
4.0 ltr v6 engine ---- aluminuim engine- thus doesnt recover cheaply after overheating, cos of warping, timing chain+, head gasket failure-

both specs has thier plus and minus and plus...as listed above

2010 to 2016 4runner is only v6, no v8
yeah v8s plenty for market, even used engines and transmission...this is both in usa and naija.
guess after a while people get tired of the v8, and the so callled fuel guzzling......but truth be told..personally a well maintained v8 consumes almost the same with a v6....on the highway, its inside the city n in traffic that the margin widens...

if i wanna drive a v8...then its gonna be a big rig, or a luxury brand...2012 tundra or 2010 to 2014 range rover grin grin

recent 4runners have I4 engine variant guess 2.7l engine

You seriously have issues walahi.

heheheehee
I laugh in hispanics,
check my contribution to that thread that talked about fastest speed, I stated it there. am a speed maniac, I know, though I have people I fear in that thread.
ur scenario is pathetic,
1. commercial bus(@ least 14 souls on board)
2. most of this commercial operators cut corners (even airline)
3. u don't know the driver.
4. it is a HUMMER BUS!!! for crying out loud
if it was your private car or a commercial car I would have hailed you but advice you to take it easy.

see what someone else said, read d last part of tge comment again
EgunMogaji:
This is just 100mph, not really earth shattering fast BUT in a flimsy commercial bus and with paying passenger it's insanity.

I blame all the able bodied men in that vehicle for allowing this to happen. They are complete asshats.

Two words, "Faulty Speedometer." He may have been fast, but there's no way a Hiace can do that, at least, not the types I know that're imported to Nigeria.

sir, it is very possible!
I have driven a hiace ( not hummer bus), reached 200km/hr on several occasions. the speedometer was upto 220km/hr. just 2 of us in d bus.
this model is AWD, shorter inn length , engine in front (as in the engine is not under the driver seat). that model is stronger and balance well than the hummer bus.

Hummer bus doing 170kph,
not just the driver needs psychiatric test, OP self should do the test.
imagine dat fragile bus dat burst to flames easily also easily tumbles doing well above 140kmp and all you could think about was to snap den post for us in nairaland. smh 4 u

I do say it, wen a commercial bus crash as a result of overspeeding, d passengers share a larger portion of d blame not driver

Car Talk / Re: Peugeot Cars Ownership: The Misleading Idea: Location, Cost Of Parts, Etc. by DGD1(m): 2:59pm On Nov 24, 2015
Mr ikenna, I feel something is missing here. using a car in nigeria that would be durable would require mechanical /technical know how, which is very scarce when it comes to the peugeot.
take for example you stay in abuja, and you advice someone to buy a peugeot in another state far ffrom where you are, you can't expect the person to be calling you every now and then, to me I feel the wahala will be too much.
there was a thread of yours you were traveling with you 405 abi 605 (dere was a picture u snapped with shorts and someone was commenting on the shoes, hope you remember?). Now take an average Nigerian car user in that situation you found yourself that day, you and I know that would have been the end of that your beloved car.
This is Nigeria were were mosst mechanics can't fix japs well, even with the simple technology in them. that is why people advice others not to buy the lions.
I know people who use peugeot well and people who regret till today for ever buying them.
