NwaAmaikpe:

You just took me back to when Nigeria was a country, when coins were precious assets. When Texaco filling station attendants cleaned your windscreen and thanked you for your patronage.
When Nigerian Airways was still a robust Elephant with wings. When PAN flooded our streets with seductive 404s. When we stood by railways counting the number of coaches on each steam train passing.
Do you remember when we used fluorescent tubes to construct HD-ready antennas so we could hear the truth from Siene Allwell Brown and Frank Olize. And when we put coloured glasses over our TVs so we could watch in colour?
Should I remind you of our TVs that had shutters, keys and legs or tell you the stories of eating moi-moi out of milk cups while watching white cranes come home from their fishing trip and beg them to exchange their white claws with out dirty nails?
When we ate New Society bread with planta. Drank Ginger Ale or Pronto. Licked "chichi" sweet and coloured saccharine icecreams after taking an overdose of kwilikwili so we could win the farting competition.
Back to when ladies wore shimmy. When permed and jerry curled hairs were the styles to beat. Tales by moonlight for the teens, Icheokwu for the adults and Danger mouse for the kids. When we just had to consult the telephone directory to get anyone's land phone number.
Tell me did you write love notes and pass to your crush through her younger ones? Did you sprain your finger from turning the "roundabout" telephone dial?
Did you knot grass leaves to stay out of trouble? Did you ever smooch your female neighbor on your father's settee while Teddy Pendergrass record was spinning on the turntable?
Did you walk from house to house on Christmas eve to sing carols? Lalastic.lala.... Did you ever use Aquafresh toothpaste to drink garri or use Krest and Akanwu for birthcontrol?
Did you ever feel a sense of pride sitting in "Merry-go-round" long buses because your neighbor's kids had to ride their father's Long John bicycle? Did you ever visit the library to check out what new tale Cyprian Ekwensi or Chinua Achebe had made?
Nigeria was great. Night journeys were interesting, we had toll gates at every boundary with jovial soldiers exchanging banters there. Life was greater if you had the privilege of growing up in Eastern Nigeria. This would have been a great piece, if it was written by any other person but because NwaAmaikpe wrote it, it is absolute rubbish. Just as MrsNwaAmaikpe pointed out, the old man in NwaAmaikpe is suffering from........ Kudos to Wigetsolar for taking local man back memory lane. |

Christianity Etc › Re: "His Name Is Not Jesus" - Daddy Freeze Condemns The Name 'Jesus' by dhesire(m): 5:27am On Nov 01, 2018 |
Waakanda: Madness at its peak
Can someone tell this guy there's something called "Arbitrariness of Language". In other words, if a group of people agreed to start referring/calling a stone, "Brubru"... then it stands. With that, the word 'stone' can easily go into oblivion and everyone knows that hard thing as 'blublu'.
To explain this vividly, the word 'stone' means 'okuta' in Yoruba language, 'nkume' in Igbo, and 'dutse' in Hausa. The adoption of such different names is purely based on agreement among the individual ethnic groups.
The word/name "Jesus" can be likened to the above. That's why Yorubas pray with the word "Jesu Kristi" and those with faith in it get results... same with other tribes. Remember, the Bible says "Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven (Matthew 18:19 KJV)".
Therefore, the word "Jesus" may be a product of agreement and I don't have any problem using it for the purpose it's meant for. Freeze lacks the locus standi to denigrate or belittle the name in question because of the forces that gave it the recognition it's enjoying today and forever. It will count for me as a sin, if I don't like your submission/comment. |

emmasege: You only hear from Adeboye when his position or any of his ministry's financiers' position is threatened.
Did Adeboye make any STATEMENT when his Deaconess was killed in Abuja or Bridget killed in Kano?
What STATEMENT has he made to identify with persecuted, displaced and bereaved Christians in the middle belt since the government he supported came into power?
By statement, I mean 'actions' & strong statements that shake government and enemies of the Christian faith.
Calling Adeboye a Christian leader is an insult to the Christian faith. He's at best RCCG (denominational) leader, and it's time the media stopped referring to him as a (National) Christian leader. I wonder how you folks reason at times. Dear biko, if you no know, you no know. Simple! |

Christianity Etc › Re: '9 Diseases Your Pastor Lies To You About' - Aroms Aigbehi by dhesire(m): 5:44am On Jul 22, 2018 |
Adieza: Logic is very far from the bed of a typical Africa. If you are a pagan, all strange diseases are caused by the demons and witches. If you are a fake christians, all strange diseases are also caused by the devil and evil spirit. No difference.
1. Autism = Devil 2. Anorexia = caused by spirit husband. (I like this one) 3. Bulimia = Devil 4.Dementia = Spirit and devil 5. Depression = Devil 6. Postnatal depression = Witches and Devil 7. Dissociative amnesia = Spiritual attack 8. Heart Attack = Spiritual attack 9. Stroke = Spiritual attack.
I am amazed how many people belief these stuff. even the educated ones. In science all these diseases have names and processes to treat them. But in Africa we want to blame everything on Witchcraft and the devil.
So my logic here is, have you ever wonder why the devil is always wining?
Now the good side. Every little thing that went well is God. The eagles won a match = God. Christiano Ronaldo got a new contract = God. Buhari rigged an election = God Trump won and election = God Got a new Job = God. The neighbor got killed by Dangote truck = God. The pastor bought a new plane = God.
I even heard God has helped Nigeria to start a new airlines now. People were typing amen and prophesying the other day about it. When I asked them what they were smoking they got upset.
Logic: Basically, what you are saying is you have no control over your life. You blow to and fro with the wind. God and the devil are draggging you to and fro. Whoever wins at a certain moment determines the state of your life. Think about it. It means you are just a game of chess between God and the devil.
People, believe me, the day God intervene and do something you will not need someone to tell you he did it. If you believe God ordained Donald Trump after all what he has done to women and minorities then you need to get your mind examined and I have a bridge to sell to you in San Francisco. Please take that God far away from me. Not my type.
https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=423104024862378&id=158338594672257 'my pastor' never lied to me with any of these stuff you listed here, maybe your pastor is lying to you. Please, don't group all pastors together because some other ones are ignorant. |
