rachealfst:You're welcome. Anike you better forgive before they marry and he refuses to allow you into their house. |
I understand the need for dialogue and you are trying. But in some ways, you're not telling us much story. You're just giving us fast paced conversation. Maybe you write or read more of drama/play and you're just dabbling with prose. Prose needs more Intel and details, fine tuned explanation of coincidence and more definite description. Take for example, that place the two of them met. Tinuke and Anike meeting defiles logical and realistic or fictitious acceptance. “Sure, no problem” I replied “Thanks, by the way I’m Tinuke Oni” “Anike Adams” I said with a smile “Do you care for anything?” “Water is Ok” I'm not trying to castigate your beautiful effort. But I'm seeing a wonderful story here and if rigged with mistakes will make the story die down in a corner here. Then, as much as you can, avoid Grammatical or spelling errors. You're doing good but let it be better. Meanwhile, deal more with showing your story than telling us. I think you improved in that in episode 3. And what that means is that you write and improve per time. You're good but can be better. Great read though. |

* Please quote the dialogues
* Burst doesn't have a past tense marker. so burst is burst * Reduce the use of Ellipses. It's distracting. * Meanwhile, the hook is not strong. |
Making sense. . Meanwhile, try to do spellcheck again. |
Smallville10:It means you must make 10 k before withdrawing from the account |

Dre could hear the heavy breathe of the lady but it wasn't as loud as the his own heartbeat. The little girl's sob progressed into wailing. Dre's turned abruptly and sighed. Her mother, a young lady, gathered into the girl into her own chest and began moving from side to side. ' It's okay dear. Nothing is wrong'. The little girl gasped as her wailing became sobbing again. Her father could only groan from his corner. His leg was oozing blood but Dre wasn't one that would just meddle with other's business. He crawled forward and scanned the environment to be sure they had a safe passage. ' We have to move'. He couldn't waste another time. The lady stood straight, panting heavily. She nodded repeatedly. ' Please help us', the woman said as she clambered forward, still rocking the baby. Dre stared at her for a few seconds. ' With what?' ' My husband. He stepped on a trap. The man was sweating profusely. He kept groaning. ' We can't take him along', the lady said hastily as he moved towards the door. Gunshots still rang from afar but that wouldn't deter Dre from helping a man in need. ' We can't just leave him'. Although he had no single idea about how to clean the man but there was no way he would leave him, lying there. ' I'm not dying here'. The lady stormed out of the uncompleted building. Her feet crunching sands. Then, he heard her legs crushing leaves and fade off. Dre stared at the woman. He shook his hands. ' Can't you help him'. ' I can't.... I don't know what to do'. ' Nothing.. Oh God! Who are those people. They killed my mother.' Tears streamed down her eyes. Her daughter coughed from silence and began to sob again. The woman rocked her. ' There's nothing you can do', the man groaned. Dre hated such cases as this. He hated not being able to do anything, not being able to help someone in need, being incapable of being a real man. Someone shouted from afar. They all remained still. Then, a gunshot rang from afar. Yet, this time, the distance was nearer than the other times. ' They are coming'. The woman withdrew till the wall couldn't allow her move further. Her oval eyes roamed in its socket. And her baby wailed again. She cramped the baby's head into her body, tightly. ' You have to go'. The man said and beckoned to his wife. ' Omada, come'. She shook her head as tiptoed forward. ' We will die'. ' Omada, you won't die'. The noise of another person rented the air the same time a gunshot rang in the air. The woman whimpered and withdrew into the wall. ' Omada'. The man voice was weak but it was firmer this time. She scramble forward, still rocking her sobbing baby. She knelt beside him as tears streamed down her face. ' Follow this man..' The man said. The noise began to grow closer. ' We have to move'. ' I'm not leaving you'. ' Take care of my family. Omada watch over my baby'. ' Daddy..' The baby cried. The woman hurriedly muffled the girl's cry with her hand. The noise from afar ceased for a few seconds then someone shouted. ' That house'. Dre knew they couldn't make it through the front door anymore. He jumped over the window. ' Give me the baby'. The woman whose adrenaline had awaken her senses handed the girl to him. The baby whimpered. The woman kissed her husband and jumped over the window. ' Kill them all', someone shouted as heavy boots began to run towards the house. Dre ran with all his might into the nearest bush, and was sure the woman was running behind him. ' Stop.. Stop' Dre said as he was sure they were safe. A gun shot rang and someone shouted. Omada screamed and ran towards the uncompleted building. Dre dropped the girl, making sure she wasn't injured in the process and jumped just in time to pull her back into the bush. He dragged her away. One of the gun men ran out and sprayed the bush. Dre pulled down Omada and the little girl. |

Affliction, people say, wouldn't arise a second time. But that's a lie. For example, one Thursday evening when the rain was falling heavily, Rita stepped out of her room. The breeze ran in a frenzy towards her, howling as if she was an intruder. It tugged at her gown. Rita was forced to hold her cloth tightly. She stared into the busy road and wished to be in the rain like the little children running about in it. They shouted gleefully. A big smile crawled over her face as she watched a little girl lick her lower lips. Those lips sent sparks of desires into her head. It reminded her of Josephine's. They were childhood friends but their friendship ended in a rain as this. They were both playing when Rita slumped. In a bid to lift her, Josephine missed a step and fell headlong into a drainage. She hit her head on a stone and never woke to lift Rita. Tears welled in her eyes as the thought of everything they've ever done together. She sighed and rub the tears off her eyes. ' Oh God! No' Rita screamed as the girl slumped while she was trying to avoid an oncoming car. |

After seeing progress of many unplanned Collabos and planned ones, I think we can make it work by just having a genre. They had been lot of NlCollabos and it would be wrong to forget those that introduced the biggest and newest ones on Nairaland.. Larrysun( What's delaying you LSD) Royver Fmartin So, Introduce twists Characters from other stories etc But just know the Genre is romance. Explore any method of writing. It's firstly for our fun then our creativity. Excite the next writer, make it as slow or as fast as you want. But remember it is romance. Don't bother if you're not as good as others think you are, just drop the thing. I will compile it for the review 'Be Writertained' Mey we start. organiser: www.writertain.com |
I'll advise that you call it, A thriller Collabo.. Not everyone love to write thriller, so if it is named a thriller or Adventure Collabo, writers would know what they are plunging themselves into and it would give a sense of direction. With that someone else can open a Romance Collabo thread. |
Perfecter4real:When it's ready I'll hint you. |
People will just talk without any dose of creativity. When someone do what haven't done, appreciate them or let them be. |
3 Agitated, Rachael stared at Marcus' hands as he caressed his gun and tightened his grip on the baby. He shook his head. ' Hold her up'. She collected the crying baby and held him up. ' Please'. Marcus winked at her and shot the baby. |
2 If they were to do a rating of the race, she would say her leg ran faster than her heart. ' You're too late', Marcus screamed gleefully from afar. ' Watch and see'. Rachael jumped just as the baby slid into teeth of the machine She caught him. |
Not fully explicit, but still makes sense. |
1. Rachael sat still for hours, watching the stiff corpse. He reminded her of everything she had ever wished for: death, amnesia. She just needed to forget her lifestyle as an assassin. His wife entered, chatting on the phone. Rachael rose and shot her. ***End*** |
Romance.. suspense hinted. |
But seriously, you've not told us any story here other than his fear. |
Akposb:Thanks baba. |
Conducting interviews with authors is an amazing resource for writers, because they allow you to hear the story of a successful writer and determine what did or didn’t work for them. Akintayo Akinjide studied Linguistics at the University of Ibadan. He has written 5 books so far and has many more in the pipeline. He is a consultant, editor, columnist and writer. I love interviewing new authors because it gives you a great opportunity to hear how they reached their dreams and you can learn from their success and mistakes. Enjoy the interview. Que: What genre of book do you normally write? (For example, literary, fantasy, YA, romance, etc.) Ans: Thriller. I love to write thrillers, a lot. Que: How many books have you written so far? Ans: Five oh. Another Fenced Heart, Her Beauty Calls, Unknown Shadows (Now, Lost But Satisfied), Comfortless Arms. Que: Why did you choose the stage name – Divepen Ans: I got it while registering on Nairaland (a popular Nigerian online forum). I was trying to use divinepen but it was giving me an error message. Out of anger, I typed Divepen with the hope would correct it afterwards but doing so wasn’t an easy task. So, I stuck to the name. Que: Have you always wanted to be a writer? (Was there a particular moment you thought, ‘I can do this!’?) Ans: Ehnn.. For the most part of my life, I started nursing the desire in Primary 5 because I wanted to tell my friends two different stories I heard- one from church, the other from a part-time teacher. Then, I wanted to tell them more and more and more until my original stories began to overwhelm me and I needed to put them down into writing. Que: What inspires you to write? Ans: A desire to tell people things without telling them. I prefer to show someone how stupid he acted with a story than to just tell such person. Que: Where do you write from? Ans: Most times, from home. Que: Which novelists do you admire? Ans: So many. I still think my best writers are J.K Rowling, Ted Dekkers, (Late) Tim Lahaye and Jerry. B. Jenkins, Audreytimms, Larry Sun, Peju Amadi, Kelvin John, Karo Oforofuo, Frank Anozie, Chimamanda Adichie Ngozi among many. Que: Describe the route to your first novel being published. Ans: Since it was an Ebook version, I tried to imitate people that had gone ahead. It was tiring as I had to be the editor myself. My friends were too busy to help out and I didn’t have enough money to hire an editor. So, I had to read on editing just to present better books; yet, I would do anything to have another eyes edit for me. Lost but satisfied, A book by Akintayo Akinjide Que: Do you have a literary agent? Ans: No. I’m planning to be one soon. Que: Talk to us about your writing routine; what’s a typical writing day for you? Ans: I try to write daily and aim at 5000 words but (laughs) I don’t grind myself now, like before and that’s because I do freelance writing for people. I don’t think I can include those. So normally before I write, I will do hours of research on the topic (preferably in the middle of the night). However, I like to listen to fast Christian songs while writing, they increase my speed and help me switch off the inner editor while writing the first draft. And I love writing early in the morning or in the silence of the evening. Que: In what ways do you market your books? Ans: Constant advertisements on social media. Que: Did you have a platform in place? On this topic, what are you doing the build a platform and gain readership? Ans: I do have a platform. I’m a well-known writer on Nairaland. And I also have a blog, Olofoforeview. I try to post regularly, and I also do giveaways. And try to build a mail list that is really growing. Que: Do you have any website(s), social media pages? Ans: Yes. I blog at olofoforeview. and I have a Facebook page, Akintayo Akinjide (Divepen). Que: What advice would you give to an aspiring novelist? Ans: If you want to be a writer, you need to go to the basics and practice it well. Then, you need to be relentless. I’m not where I want to be, but you can’t compare my present works with any of the trashes I wrote before. Keep growing. Que: Favorite movie? Ans: (Smiles ) please movies. The 100, 24 hours( and 24 hours legacy), Scandals and once upon a time Sisterly love, another book by Akintayo Akinjide Que: Something personal about you people may be surprised to know? Ans: I don’t know o.. Maybe the fact that when I was younger, I loved to steal books to read, and I would go to the rubbish site to pack books home. I just love to read. Or that I can sing but gospel Fuji is my thing o. Que: What’s next? Ans: Next… Hmm. That’s serious. If as regarding stories, I’m working on 10 books now, and would start posting them in April. However as regarding the literature scene, we’re (I and some great writers) still planning a big thing for the literary scene. The only thing I think I want to add is that one day I want to sit down in interviews to talk about my books and their characters and not about myself. I love watching J.K. Rowling, Stephen Kings and Chimamanda Adichie etc., talk about their inspirations for those characters and books. https://ebooksheyday.com/interview-with-akintayo-akinjide/ |
