HealthGood News: Nigeria Develops Ebola, Malaria Herbal Drug by divinehand2003(op): 7:25am On Jan 20, 2018
- Nigeria has successfully researched and developed six traditional herbal products for the treatment of Ebola, Malaria and other diseases

- NIPRIMAL, an anti-malaria is for treatment of uncomplicated malaria, which is also safe for use by pregnant women has also been developed according NIPRD, the research institute in charge of the development

- Another product developed is NIPRD Oil. The oil could be used as a nasal decongestant, insect repellant, air freshner and an anti-inflammatory agent

The National Institute for Phxrmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) says it has successfully researched and developed six traditional herbal products for the treatment of Ebola, Malaria and other diseases.

Professor Karniyus Gamaniel, thee NIPRD director-general, said this while presenting the score card of his eight-year tenure (2009 to 2017) in Abuja on Friday, January 19.

The programme, organised by NIPRD, aimed to present the products researched and developed by the institute and present staff service awards to deserving worker, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

He said that ‘NIPRIBOL’, a fixed dose combination drug was developed by the institute for the treatment of Ebola Virus Disease, adding that the institute had completed the Phase I study of the drug.

Gamaniel said that the institute had also developed ‘NIPRIMAL’, an anti-malaria for treatment of uncomplicated malaria, stating that the drug was also safe for use by pregnant women.

Others are: ‘NIPRIMUNE’ an immunostimulant which can also be used to manage HIV in Nigeria and ‘NIPRIFAN’ for the treatment of fungal skin infection.

He said that another product developed by the institute, ‘NIPRD Oil’, could be used as a nasal decongestant, insect repellant, air freshner and an anti-inflammatory agent.

He however noted that excessive use of this oil could cause irritation.

He said that: “The institute has also developed ‘NIPRISAN’ for the management of sickle cell anaemia.

“We are currently concluding plans to carry out commercial production and distribution of this product.

“We have developed and implemented various institutional policies for effective governance, this include the scheme and condition of service, intellectual policy and quality management system.

“We have also ensured the introduction of traditional herbal medicine into the national health system and established partnerships with local and international organisations.

“The core competence of NIPRD is in the development of phytomedicines from indigenous plants and products, clinical trials, among others; we are a quality assured institute,” Gamaniel said.

He said that presenting a report was necessary as it would serve as a baseline for the new leadership and provide an opportunity for new strategies to be introduced.

The institute presented awards to over 150 staff for their hard work and dedication to the growth of the institute, and the research and development of traditional herbal products.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Government in 1987 approved the establishment of the institute as a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.

It was established with the primary objective of developing medicine and biological products from indigenous resources towards the growth and development of the country.

The institute was later moved to the Federal Ministry of Health in 2001.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that nurses under the auspices of University Graduates of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA), on Friday, January 19, called for the overhaul of the nation’s health system to enhance effective health care delivery.

In reaction to the recent death of doctors and nurses due to Lassa fever in Ebonyi, the association described as worrisome the attitude of successive governments to the development of the nation’s health care system.

This reaction is contained in a statement signed by its National President, Chief Solomon Egwuenu and its National Secretary, Goodluck Nshi and made available to the News agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki.

Where will the money come from to develop Nigeria.?

If it comes from SS/SE oil & gas, how then will you achieve Restructuring/True Federalism which has Resource Control as one if it's pillars.?

This is the dilemma of every leader

1) Decentralize Nigeria and lose the control over SS/SE oil & gas

2) Stick to the Status Quo and Keep Nigeria forever in the state of potentiality until oil & gas loses value and we become like poor Ghana.
Decentralization and total resource control will be one of the major things that I will achieve in my administration. Remember, all states will be made to pay tax to the FG which will be a major source of revenue for my government.

SmartyPants:
You cannot do this without:

1. The agreement of the National Assembly first;
2. After which you require the agreement of the people by way of referendum.

In other words, forget it. This is practically impossible.

We need a president who can set realistic and achievable goals.
Jonathan almost achieved it. Besides, as a smart president, I ought to ensured that my candidates are chosen as Senate president and speaker of house of assembly. In addition to this I will ensure that I place strategic men to occupy key positions in the NASS. I won't be as dull as Buhari who let the process run haywire to his own detriment.

I would encourage Nigeria nationalism and patriotism.
I would implement a new tax regime which would tax according to your income/wealth.
implement competency test which would do away with lurkers and ensure employment/promotion based on merit.
invest heavily in agriculture in fact I would borrow Saddam or Gaddafi's model of government involvement in agriculture esp for rice and cassava for at least 2 yes before other crops as such heavy investment in rice in 4 million hectares can easily earn the country over $1billion annually and Nigeria has over 36 million hectares of arable land.
privatise the railway as it seems the required capital needed for its expansion would be to much.
revisit or revoke privatisation on power.
nationalize the transport sector esp interstate transport.
stop issuance of contracts esp road. the ministry of works is not there to be ministry of contracts and employ people to wot
invest in health sector esp putting a model where the senior minister is in charge of public healthcare, disease breakout e.t.c and the junior is in charge of health infrastructure, hospitals e.t.c and ensure the take off of the NHIS scheme.
encourage states to sell/privatise the football clubs. a full capacity stadium of about 65,000 can at the very least net a club over #890mn per season. also invest heavily in other sports, university sports to remove youths from idleness and give them a source of livelihood.
invest in the education sector and encourage both old and young to go back to school . make sure schools teach ethics. stop lecturers from striking. try all possible best to make education as free as possible. it is a right not a privilege. encourage start ups and research in the universities to encounter inventions.
in science and technology encourage think tanks and research institutes. Nigeria once had one of the best crop research institutes in the world, its time to take that position back. encourage research in alt fuel. also research paranormal claims.
discourage teen and unmarried pregnancy as this brings unwanted social trouble, also encourage adoption and discourage more than 3 children per family in order to put our population dynamics under control.
discourage the propagation of bad morals being passed by celebrities by making laws to discourage such and also discourage pirating/copyright infringement. also encourage arts and crafts and tourism
ensure the security forces are trained in public skills and punish severely those who violate human rights. let every agency know its jurisdiction and not be used for grudge or revenge mission. buy new weapons/ for them esp the police, set up an internal affairs unit that monitors officers and also hire trained psychiatrist and psychologist.
That's all for now my hands are paining me. will continue later
I like your views. The only problem you might face is with the present 1999 military constitution which has empowered some disgruntled elements to truncate the plans of the president. Why not go for a better constitution instead?

You don't seem to understand how government works. The only authority that can do away with the senate/legislative is the legislative itself. The executive has no power over the legislative at all. If anything, it is the legislative that wields a form of power over the executive.
A supreme national conference should be constituted by my government with the aim of formulating a new and supreme national constitution which will be signed into law by Mr President. During that conference, I will use my presidential powers to lobby for what I want. Indeed, the bicameral legislative system of government shall be done away with and a more flexible legislative house will be established. The masses will be galvanised and stimulated by me power and popularity nation wide to see to it that what we want is brought to existence.
