One is the wedding ring the other is the engagement.

Why do married women always wear two rings while there spouse always put on one ring or no ring(s) at all.

What is the concept behind this act?

PoliticsRe: Why Buhari Should Negotiate With Boko Haram by Djicemob: 6:30am On Jul 09, 2015
omenka:
An echo of my opinion.

This is the only place we tend to disagree:
I would rather we tarry a little, significantly deplete their capability, and coerce them to the negotiation table. It is not ideal for a government to negotiate with violent non state actors from a point of weakness. You would only embolden them to cause more trouble. This I think Baba understands.
If you deplete their capability, what is the need for a negotiation afterwards? Why not just finish the job? Do we have to reward them for the atrocities by all means?

MizMyColi:
well, here's my reasoning...

In a sane world, no body has just one name.
The family is the smallest unit of human interactions and an emotional centre of sorts.

We'd all be lost if we had no family to identify with, which explains the reasons a sane human would normally crave for a sense of belonging....

Now this family you belong to has a name, that is first and foremost, who you are.

Which is why you don't hear people like Khloe Kardashian saying, "I am a Khloe"...but you can hear her saying "I am a Kardashian"
There's something about pedigree that speaks volumes of the stuff you're made of.

In other words, your surname and your name are dependent on each other and actually function as ONE when it comes to introducing yourself in a formal/semi-formal setting.

So, I'd rather go with my name IS Margaret Thatcher.
As far as identifying me is concerned, none is complete without the other.
I am Margaret and I'm a Thatcher.
In other words, my name is Margaret Thatcher.

"My names are" should, or, can be used when you need to make known your different names/titles, which to a very large extent are independent of the other.

For Example;

His name is Jehovah Elshaddai.

And

His names are Jehovah Elshaddai, Jehovah Tsidkenu, Jehovah Shammah, Jehovah Nissi.....
Respectively.
You catch my drift?
wink

You killed it cheesy

you use 'is' if u wanna say only ur first name or ur last name and u use 'are' if u wanna say ur full name.
If am wrong pls quote me.

My Name Is....

My Names Are...

This has caused serious arguments between me and friends couple of times so i decided to bring it to the house.English Language Gurus and Linguists, what are your take on the above phrases, which is better and grammatically correct when introducing oneself.Hopefully we can all learn a thing or two from your inputs.

wat are you saying? Do you know who Boogey is? Boogey is one of the best rappers alive in Nigeria. Listen to All love and mathematics by Boogey and Downtown by Mode9
These guys eat, think and breathe lyricism,if you are in tune to the battle rap section you'll understand, for over 10yrs now these textcees have been holding it down with crazy-out-this-world-lyricism that your boogey can only read and be left in awe.

BTW i still hold the notion that jagz is better than boogey.

grin

Jesse jagz is better than boogey.
...And am not saying this as a newbee in the rap world or a commercial head but a real hiphop head cum unrepentant critic.Raps is not all about the lyrics but the whole package(From poetry, rhythm, story telling, street, romance, hardcore,to flow, production and so on) which can be summarized in one simple word "Brilliance".Boogey doesnt have the brilliance that jagz have.

*@OP,if not that u mentioned where this thing happened, I would have asked if it happened at Ikeja. Exactly same way they picked my 2k on a sunday morning. I felt intimidated cos the guy waz someone I could take on comfortably

Fast forward, 2 months later this same guy did same thing to me at another bus stop within same ikeja and it was very late in the night. The slap I gave to him on thAt day, I don't think I have ever given it to any human being in my life. I was able to take the earphone I saw on him, I seized the dirty footwear he was putting on. Before I said jack, the guy took to his heels and was shouting "Azeez o, Azeez o. O boy na so me run towards another direction with the seized items.
Most times they operate individually and they look so unkempt
Those guys seem to be everywhere in Lagos and they have same modus operandi.
