Career / Re: When We Say A Toilet Cleaner Abroad Is Better Than Bank Manager In Nigeria by djoe21(m): 9:42pm On Sep 02
Bankowner:

And what do you say about a banker who has worked over 20 years and still doesn't have his own house? Impossible, you will say. But it is true. And not that he is wasteful or anything.

The write-up says bank manager not just a banker.

I want to believe a bank manager of 20 years should be able to afford a home if he is not wasteful as you assert.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How Chinese Vendors Scammed Me Of 1m Naira [photos] by djoe21(m): 8:28am On Aug 28
Supreme145:
I've been struggling to make ends meet since I graduated over 3 years ago, it's been from one poor paying job to the other. Early this year I managed to convince my father to sell his land and give me a million naira from the money. He wanted me to travel out but I had to inform him that travelling even to an African country is now very expensive which 1 or even 2 million won't be able to process.

I decided to invest the money into mini importation from a Chinese site 1688 which I learnt here on Nairaland. I tasted the waters by importing cheap necklaces but they weren't of good quality so I decided to try again. I imported wigs and they were better because I was able to realize at least 6k profit on each of them but then sales was a bit slow since I didn't really have the customer base for wigs.

After the wigs I imported boyfriend jeans since I was already into jeans business before and it is a trendy stuff that I won't have much problem selling. Before I ordered I checked reviews, longevity of the seller on the site and other checks. After due diligence I ordered 200 pairs of jeans from 3 different vendors. An agent that I met on Nairaland helped me to make payments while I took care of the shipping myself.

I waited apprehensively for about two months for the goods to arrive because unlike the first two orders which I used air freight I used sea cargo due to the weight of the shipment. During the wait I reached out to prospective buyers with the samples and videos that I got from the vendors. The goods finally arrived Nigeria early this month and spent over a week under customs clearance. Within this period my parents had been checking in occasionally to know the progress of the business.

The goods arrived the shipping company's warehouse on Friday and I had plead with my dad to borrow me a refundable 235,0000 to clear the goods which will be paid immediately I start making sales. I sent my brother who's a dispatcher in Lagos to help me pick up the stuff. He called me on video call when he got home and what I saw shattered my heart into a thousand pieces. My phone fell off my hand while I gasped for breath with my heart racing.

The 3 vendors sent identical goods which were as good as rags, in fact it was below okirika 3rd grade standard. Even skirts, bum shorts and plain trousers were found among the rubbish they sent, some were torn. Without mincing words, they sent damaged, old and worn out goods to me. They weren't even packaged in nylons. It was as if there was a conspiracy between the vendors.

I just watched the great hope and expectations that I had fizzle out, I wished I was dreaming but it was reality. I broke the news to my dad who was beyond disappointed in me, he regretted giving me the money and wished he had invested the money in his building project like my mom advised him when he wanted to give me the money.

On my part I'm just downcast, confused and depressed with no idea on what to do with my life. At 32 I thought I was finally up to something that will lift me out of poverty but just like several times that I've tried, I come crashing down to the ground. I feel like I'm cursed to die in suffering but anyhow it is giving up is not an option. I will still stand up and continue the struggle till I make it legitimately one way or the other.

I had to put this up here so that others can learn from my mistakes and bear in mind that those Chinese are dubious and should tread carefully when dealing with them.

Sorry about this, you will bounce back better and stronger.

Phones / Re: My SpaceX Starlink Internet Experience In Lagos, Nigeria by djoe21(m): 4:50am On Aug 23
BadMaster:

I hope you know the difference between downlink and download, Mbps and MBps?

Regarding speed, as long as there are no obstructions in the view of the dishy and installed, preferably, at the highest point in your location, there's really nothing much you can do to improve speed.

Make sure to split the 2.4/5.0Ghz frequencies. For devices close to the router, use the 5Ghz frequency, it's faster.

Do you mean to create a separate 2.4ghz network on the Starlink app?

clearcrystal:
This is a good news.
All those lazy youth that are hell bent on destroying our economy by trading and speculating the exchange rate on P2P platforms are in deep shit already.
Instead of investing in physical asset they prefer to get rich quicker by trading USDT in the comfort of their bedroom at the detriment of our economy.
I keep telling people the rate we see online is not the true exchange rate.
I'm sure they will switch to Telegram but don't be surprised in 2 weeks time the CBN will equally ban Telegram.

Lazy youth? Someone would think with your write-up there are millions of jobs available to the youth and they are refusing to work.

Youth look to crypto as alternative because our government have failed on its part to provide good jobs. Have you seen unemployment rate? Trust me if there are available jobs, most people in the crypto space would not be there. You think it is easy to invest in crypto?

I am a man. And I approve.
Go for older guys please.
The fact that you went to school and same class with a guy does not mean he is ready or prepared to marry you.
Your partner is 5, 10 or 20 years much older than you and will support you better in this Nigeria.
We that are your age mate, will reverse back and choose a younger girl that will not argue or challenge us in the house.

Lolz. If you believe your last statement then you are in for a rude shock. You really think younger girls don't argue or challenge? grin

A man should be @ least 7 years older than his babe. Women age faster with 5+ age to men. A 23 year old girl is literally 28yrs. and men age slower 5- to their age. So a 28yrs man is literally a 23yrs old.

It is not white and black. You cannot generalize.

I still do not understand why they give pupils lots of home work to do after spending so much time at school.

Yes she has a heart of gold. However, I am even more impressed by James. I don't know how many men would agree to such marriage and be willing to take care of Brandon the way he has been.

I am quite sure he meant it when he said he would fight for guardianship even if the lady is no more.

Such a beautiful love story. Could pass for a movie. May God continue to bless them.

Bishop you wine and dine with these Nigerian leaders. We see you all the time with them on tv, faces of newspapers and they grace your occasion. They even sponsor your events, projects, programmes or make you a member of one committee or the other that spreads the national cake your way.
Dear bishop, all these things you say at newspaper or tv interviews or public lectures, do you tell them privately? You have always had the ears of our leaders right from the beginning of this 4th republic and you have grown richer and more influncial in person and in the church courtesy of their facilitation, have you rejected their influence, string pulling, money or otherwise?
Stop masquerading on the faces of the media from time to time about people we know are your best friends.

You think Jesus did not dine and mingle with pharisees, romans and sinners?

It is more impressive that after mingling with these lot, they are still able to speak the bitter truth about them.

Do not hate the 'sinner' (person) but the sin (wrongful actions). And like the saying goes, change is the only constant thing. So there is still hope that one day, change will occur as long as we continue to say the truth about the situation of things and not be some sycophants or have biased minds because those in places of authority are members of our families, parties, cliques, association, etc.

I hope they do not move the incidence of this tax payment on the poor masses by increasing their subscription because they have been increasing prices constantly of late.

At the end of the day, it is the poor masses that bear the burden especially as Multichoice has no adequate competition in Nigeria.

Outplay who by far? Abeg make we no too dey hype them. We played them and had our chances as well especially in the second half. They gained momentum toward the end because of the penalty we conceded at the dying minutes of the game.

Go back and look at Austin's profile as coach with the Super Eagles before you argue blindly.

Blindly? Are you really serious about this Eguavoen talk? Please tell me what I don't know. Has he ever finished beyond 3rd place even when nations cup was just 16 teams?

Eguavoen could not qualify us for world cup even after Rohr had done most of the work. Losing out to a dreadful Ghana team.

Did you know he couldn't qualify us for Olympics when he managed our U-23 team?

I am trying to understand the pedigree you are referring to. Or are you confusing him with Siasia?

The only way I can make sense of this your Eguavoen talk is if you are from Edo state. Then I can just assume you are trying to support your brother.

Silencing which critique?

This Portuguese fraud is one of the worse coach of the Super Eagles with this Haram style of eyesore football though... Also with Gernot Rohr and Lars Lagerback.

I still prefer an Austin Eguaveon to this guy.

Please which Austin Equaveon is that? Is there another one or is it the same one that crashed us out of last nations cup and couldn't qualify us for the last world cup?
