You are on the money my friend. If a Sea port comes to Onitsha, Lagos will suffer their biggest blow and that is why they are fighting it tirelessly. I blame the Southeast governors for their lack of responsibility in taking their destiny in their Hands. They are still waiting for Federal Allocation to build an International Airport, Sea Port and other Major projects. What a joke. They are waiting for allocations from a government that wants to see them fail or wants to limit their Independence. These governors should contract these projects with foreign investors and give them lots of tax breaks and incentives to build these things because until a true Nationalist or an IGBOMAN becomes presidents, anything that will make IGBOS independent of other parts of Nigeria will continually be subverted. Dredging a river is not a difficult task. The second largest port in the US (Houston Port) is an artificial port because it was produced by dredging the Houston BAY which continuously gets dredged. When i visited Houston, i was able to appreciate the good work they did in that port. The Anambra government can easily contract with this company or others instead of waiting for Yara-do-nothing. Currently, there is a Seaport in Onitsha but it cannot be put to use because the water is too shallow for heavy vessels.
Public display of jokes, thatz what i call this.
Lagos state isnt against ports else where.it will help the state sef,we have other means of revenue(manpower, human resources),even a port wouldnt bring anybody to a state that is ill ruled(which aparently, eastern states are).and besides how on planet earth do u want such a project to be executed, its easy to yarn with ur mouth but in reality it wont fly coz of the greed that plagues igbos, sorry to hurt your pride!thatz y there is next to no development in that state despite its vast pool of talent(one word is Greed).
one more thing,im not saying all igbos o, but mehn ur leaders aint got human sympathy at all.

Jarus:
Bukola and baby politics in the same sentence?
Did you know that:
-After Obasanjo himself, Bukola was the second strongest supporter(installer) of Yar'adua presidency?
-He led the delegation to Katsina to convince Yar'Adua?
-He rallied other governors(Ibori,Odili, Attah etc) to leave the scene for Yar'adua?
-He is the most powerful Governor today?
-He is the most influential PDP politician/power broker today?
-Did you follow the last PDP convention? He decided who got what. Told this to step down for that. Kwara govt house in Abuja turned into 'decision' house.
-. . .and he's perhaps the most refined PDP politician in Nigeria today.

These may not be good politics, but definitely not baby politics. You may other word.
yep, the strongest governor that cannot deliver in his own state!!!!
the lastime i checked, ilorin wasnt the only place in kwara state,
homeboy is nothing but a local champion, can only control those people coz they are dirty and they are 'yes sir ' people
the only reason they used kwara govt house 4 a decie't'ion ground was because there was enuff space 4 owambe , LMAO!!!
, just kiddin, but seriously, therez no compairing these 2.
buk'she' ooops bukky has the backing of his party at federal level or rather has had 4 donkey yrs and take alook at his achievment, its laughable LMAO grin!!to make it worse u said he say what goes what and who goes where n all that bull crap and he dosnt even no where how to go about building his state?shit, hez abit dull upstairs and so are his leutenants dat are playing politics without getting the job done.

Seems Fashola's govt aint got better policies to institute hence having the time to go about banning titles and choosing who should wield what title. Pathetic!! Moreso when the policy seems tribalistic (only Igbo titles banned)
as long as it dosnt pay or affect u,ul have only crap like this to say.
you feel only igbo titles were bannedhuhhow many hausa people do u c parading themselves as something they are not?Lagos is a youruba land and they have history, they know y every title is what it is and y,as for the Eze Ndigbo who they dont know and dosnt have a histiry well, they have every right to ban it,these guys just use these titles as fraud by making potraying themselves as relevant in the state and they are soooooo not.
as far as im concerned anybody that carries any title that has no history from his land and enters lagos should be arrested and charged.and if u are in lag n u want to give urself a title like 'omo oni ile of igbo land'
please go through the right panel(if theres one)!!!its the people of the land that descide what they want, if they dont want eze ndigbo of lagos then they freaking dont want it, get out!!!! angry grin

i wonder y most of u keep saying this,

the question is,

what source of income do they have in kwara, but still bukola achieved what he as achieved.

i am very sure, if bukola should handle Lagos with all the materials, he would definately superceed Fashola's performance,

okay, how did Fashola Perform better than Bukola, what is his achievement compared to bukky,

as i am talking now, i am in ilorin, bukola is also doing some projects which are wonderful,.

i visited one of his project last week,

stanbilli is the name of the project,

just like an eagle square,

bukola came to visit that project while i was there,

to my greatest suprise, he drove his car by himself, an one other car followed him. no noise, no one ever knew it could be the governor coming so simple,

he did these to visit the how fast the project is monitor the movement of this project,
u are myopic in ur thoughts and coments,
you talked about the income the state is getting,Lagos state isnt even getting the income it deserves  from the federal government, most of the works done in lagos is generated from the state itself.Federal govt(PDP) is not existant in that state, its as bad as the state taking over the rehabilitation of federal roads. Now moving to you dear bukky(or whatever u call her, ehmmm Him)over the yrs he has been governing, how has he steped up the internal generation of funds in that state??bear in mind Fashola has 2yrs on his sheet.Point is, the materials you are talking about was built and not just met.
you talk about wonderful projects by bukky, Like the eagle square thing, please dont make me laugh, please just remove that and dont call it a project, how does that generate funds for his people,u will see that same place beign used for PDP/PDPgovernors convention only,u will probably not step foot into it or ull get bruised by MOPOL.
if u were surprised about him showing up with no siren(what does he need it for)huhif ur still pondering on that, u should ponder on a man d@ drives around by himself in a toyota corolla wit no siren everytime(not just visiting a project), u should ponder on a man that disguised as an old man and visited LUTH(lagos state uni teaching hospital) n got some nurses kicked out because the refused to attend to a child,a man that has come out of his car to control traffic,a man that has come out of his car to turn a military man back coz he was facing one way,a man that went in fashola cab n told the driver to face one way(which d driver gave him back his money and said 'NO, u wan make fashola catch me!!', home boy the list is endless,if u come to lagos u will not only b surprised at his works,u will enter a state of Coma since little achievments of ur govnor amuse u.
As far as im concerned,
this was a wrong match, it should be
GOVERNOR RAJI FASHOLA VS OTHER GOVERNORS COMBINED + YAR' AH SLOW!!!!!

@ kobojunkie n others,
First things first, those so called CCTV ur talking about are outdated, they dont produce clear images, they dont even zoom in,some just produce movements and you really cant get the persons face,n if the robber is smart he would know where to stand in the hall.some CCTV/BETAMAX TV in banks really are dummies. Now,with ur streamlined veiw, did it occur to u that the person behind the operations of the CCTV saw the activities of the robbers in the hall and alerted the police when no other person in the hall could make a move??there probably was no need for database and identification, abeg, please stop making a big meal out of Kuli-kuli!!!!

@ kobojunkie

Do u know all ur comment dwell around just one thing, over n over n over??'the govt should provide an alternative for the people before demolishing', fine,i understand ur point but i feel this statement of urs only applies to those that are affected by the demolishing exercise LEGALLY,if the REAL oshodi market was demolished then ud b making a valid point but for now ur just an empty vessel making a whole lot of noise. The state government has no business compensating criminals,if its illegal its illegal,i believe u stay in another mans land, why dont u go street hawking or build a mini market where its not meant to be and tell me what would happen to u?Voting Fashola in dosnt mean lawlessness should go on(reply to some1's statement earlier),we want change.Lagos state is not getting any bigger in land size and cannot accomodate everybody, most of this beggers and traders u c around were not in lagos during the census, they went back to thier states n i guess u are learnerd enough to know the implication of such on the state financially and politically.if u ever come to abuja and visit wuse market u will know what the govnor is trying to achieve(now nobody is complaining about wuse market, but when it was beign demolished it was this kind of noise it generated),oshodi and many other places you see are expressways turn markets for street trading due to lawlessnes, this is what is corrected today!!!now,if u asked if there was a generation of revenue from such avenue?the answer is yes and both parties benefitted, the traders go illegal spots and area boys turned landloards making money illegally,it was a temporary contract that would take a man with courage to stop,NOW,the MAN has come with a whole army of supporters which includes myself to bring change n that change begins NOW!!!this is Life not Google search,

These street traders have been provided alternatives long before now! The government has mobilized so many microfinance banks
to assist them in setting up their trades in a proper way, yet they would remain on the streets, paying some touts everyday. You pay touts N100 everyday but cant afford a N1,500-a-month shop? (N2,500 at the most)

May be you guys need to go to these locations and find out what really the issues are.

I am not sure if you know this, but the train used to pass through oshodi as well as many of the main market. That was part of the drawing factor for most of the traders in the beginning. If you look closely, you will see the old rail lines still there. I think trains passed through oshodi, as recently as 13 years ago; I say 13 before that was the last time I saw the train go through the market.

update ur facts,im just sparing u coz u said it was 13 years ago 'U' saw a train pass there,if u claim 13yrs ago it shows how current u are,so current u dont know it passes there everyday.i always say this about u and many others, ur just GOOGLE babes,if therez a network problem u become epileptic.if only u go through oshodi often then we can have a grand argument but, wink

I pity this nation if people like you end up in govt because you have no clue as to what is going on. Are you a graduate? Shame on you.
How many times do i need to tell people on here that ELECTRICITY is a F!UCKING federal issue. Until it is fully deregulated, there is nothing any state govt in the federation can do. For now, any independ power station still has to supply the National Grid before it gets redistributed. If States had full autonomy over power, then you can make that excuse.

Your comment on flowers makes me laugh. So you'd rather have lagos looking like the dump it was several years ago. You are an idiot. Go onto forums for expats living in lagos and you will see how they are all happy about how lagos looks now. A beautiful city attracts tourists and foreign investors which leads to investments and added revenue for the state. Do you expect the state to depend on the paltry sum from the FG?

With regards to VGC, ok you're still a fool. You don't need to be rich to be conscious of your environment. Lagos needs a strong hand to instill these qualities in its populace.
Were you born during IDIAGBON's time?
All your noise about continuity is unwarranted. Fashola is simply continuing from where Tinubu stopped. Times have changed. THis is a democracy. There is no going back. Lagos will keep getting better.

I agree corruption has to be tackled. This will not happen in a day. Nigerians took over 40yrs to become this bad. It will take time for corruption to be wiped out. 90% of the people on here are corrupt. If you've never bribed a policeman/govt official, let me see ur hands up!

There are sacrifices that need to be made in order to achieve a mega city. I'm not saying the poor should suffer but hey, the market on its own was illegal from start anyway.
Lagosians are smart and hardworking. I'm sure there are alternatives being worked out for them.

QuotaSyste:
This is arrant nonsense from all these Yoruba, hausa and other nigerian minority folks. When it's to kill Igbo people by any means, that's what unites you foolish nigerians. Until other Yoruba dominated markets are closed on such idiotic excuse, then you people can come back here to talk. As for now, this is pure and complete witch hunting of Igbo business, trying your other means to check mate the ever expanding Igbo Business.

Asking people to pay tax by force of closing their shops where you don't have a serious tax collecting system in place is nothing but pure insanity. Those of you using America and Europe as your comparison, have you ever asked yourself why tax payers in those countries rush up to pay their taxes instead of waiting for their IRS to come asking for it? Have you ever seen anybody who in his whole sincere most heart is ever willing to pay taxes?

You can claim there is, but fact is there is not, but the solid systems in place makes it possible for people in those countries to pay up their taxes or face the law. Yet under such solid and tight tax collecting systems in those countries, there are still people evading and finding their ways through it and successfully avoid paying taxes. In those countries you are blindly using as comparison, every official registered businesses, how ever big or small must have their own accountancy office where they are affiliated to and this is by law and they pay this accountancy office at the end of the month. The job of this accountancy offices is to account for everyday sales of their customers who are these business shops, industries and so on.

Some accountancy offices might have up to 20 business shops under their care, this in turn makes them to employ more workers. Such is part of the job creation that you porous heads in nigeria doesn't know about. You have fresh university accountant graduates roaming your Lagos streets without work and all you idiots are here hailing your fashola for closing down Igbo businesses. Each an everyday, this accountancy offices knows each and every sales that their client's selling machines recorded for the day.

All the sales receipts are turn in to those accountancy offices on daily or weekly bases depending on your agreement with your accountancy office. The accountancy office in turn is responsible for calculating your everyday business sales and turning in the record to IRS which in turn sends you your tax bill for the month. Now, don't pay and face the IRS music. Do you see that IRS don't deal directly with business owners, rather they deal with your accountancy office. Now, i am giving example about holding the little business shops accountable for paying up their taxes. Check out how many accountancy offices that will spring up in Lagos if every shop is forced by law to be affiliated to an accountancy office. Check out how many fresh graduates those accountancy office will employ and finally check out how easy it will be to collect taxes from those alaba shoppers.

What makes these accountancy offices attractive in those countries to have them account for your business is that they will also in turn help your business to grow. You don't spend unnecessarily when you know that someone is counting all the money you made in your everyday sales and that tax will be deducted from your money according to the account he made and presented to your country's IRS and not according to your own very account which "must" have cheating inside it against the government.

In those countries you are quick to blindly use as comparison, no registered business does their everyday sales account by themselves. It is not allowed by law. You must be affiliated to an accountancy office that does your everyday sales calculation and you pay them for their services. Check out how many accountants such offices will employ in your nigeria if such rule is being used other than sending Yoruba alayes in uniforms with tax office receipts in their hands to invade Igbo shop/businesses in the name of collecting tax. That is not an efficient way of collecting tax from anyone. Don't expect anyone to pay you tax through such way.

All of you opening your dirty stinking mouths here, have anyone of you or your parents and siblings ever paid tax at anytime or the other in nigeria? Tell your almajiri government in connivance with their Yoruba servers to copy the American and European tax collecting systems and put it in place in your rotten country nigeria and lets see how people are going to evade taxes. In those countries, we hear that so and so individual is being hunted by the tax officials, not a whole group of people and their businesses. You people are claiming to be blind to read the wicked writing on the wall because it involves Igbo people and their businesses.
its better to have stinking mouths and have ur facts right dan having stinking mouths n a DAFT brain to go with it.yourba boys trade in village n have been affected.it wasnt stated that its igbo boys to pay tax so dont start something else. For evading tax, ur shop shut downhuhi think its meant to be a jail term.i think if they evade again by now they would know whatz next.As 4 u, if u evade tax n ur put in kirikiri maximum cell please explain to nairalanders how ignorant u are n how the system dosnt work, BEHIND BARS grin angry

BusinessRe: Entire Computer Village Shut Down Over Tax by dlox01(m): 10:23am On Nov 26, 2008
I find that it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth, when I see a government headed by Fashola doing this. But then again, why am I angry? Fashola WAS Tinubu's Chief-of-Staff for quite a few years, and would have been privy to the wanton looting of public coffers and the state's resources that was perpetrated by Tinubu. Heck, how do we know he didn't partake of it sef?

ur right how DO we know he DID??do u have your facts??dont start running ur mouth on weak foundation, how do i know u are not one of the people that looted with tinubu??

All this clamour for people to pay their tax is a bit rich, coming from the Chief-of-Staff of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, self-styled Governor Emeritus of Lagos, who is still taking his 10% cut from every naira people pay into the coffers of Lagos state, whether as tax, C of O fees, Stamp duties, planning fees, market levies, development levies, LASTMA fines and so on. And he is apparently doing this through Alpha Beta Consulting, which is owned by Tinubu through proxies.

U really need to attend Tax seminars and brush up on your fundamentals of tax, because what you have coated is out of context,Tinubu cannot get 10% of everybodies naira.i dont have time to lecture u now but please stop showing off your stupidity with your alpha beta consulting.

Another reason why I might not be inclined to support this action is because the public works going on now are heavily loaded in favour of, yes, you guessed it, Bola Ahmed Tinubu again!! This is because the Chaghoury's are his partners in a number of construction firms, including Hi Tech, which "won" the contract for the expansion of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, and several other contracts around the state. Also include ITB in that list, as well as Palmyra, all Chaghoury companies in which Tinubu has a huge stake, and of course, not to forget the sale of Lagos State's stake in the Eko Hotel group to the same Chaghoury's, supervised by, yes, you guessed it, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

u are a retard, Lagos is way too big for a singular person to own everything.you take alook around u,theres more to be done dan just lekki express way and eko hotel, the worlds richest man did not do lekki express way o,think very well, the person that impacted on his people the most dint build a road,u have to pick urself up and think of something to do coz i can sence a pour of helplessness in ur statement

So, while some actions of Fashola are commendable, including but not limited to, the beautification of Lagos roads, rather than their rehabilitation, I will not follow anyone blindly to canonise a governor because he is at least pretending to do his job. I'm more interested in resultsmention what he has endulged in and u have not seen results. I painfully witnessed the idolisation of Tinubu over a period of 8 years of unbridled corruption, executive laziness and lawlessness (the emasculation of the local government tier of government in Tinubu's time, cleverly disguised as a creation of more local governments, comes to mind, with agencies like LAWMA, LASAA and ideas like the Land Use Charge, which basically take away constitutionally guaranteed sources of income for the Local Governments - a direct VIOLATION OF THE CONSTITUTION) of his government, please what constitution?which one said it was wrong for the government to create agencies?quote, while also observing the ignorance of our people, who hailed that drug-addled charlatan at every turn, jeun soke baba!!

The result after 8 years, compared to Jakande's 4 years in a more austere time for Nigeria (Lekki-Epe Expressway was constructed by Jakande in that time), is there for all to see:

Area Boys rule - like MTN, they are everywhere you go, at the market, collecting money from poor, hard-working Alaaru's, on the roads, dressed up as LASTMA or Man-o-war, or not dressed up at all, just collecting money from motorists and motor-cyclists alike, and Marwa had gotten rid of them!!

Bad roads, everywhere. Never mind the re-construction of Obafemi Awolowo Road, IkoyiMIND it o coz na money dem use build am no be free, which took ages, and only takes care of the richest in societyhave u steped or driven on that road??if yes, that would mean u are either Rich or that road isnt sevicing the rich alone!! the reconstruction of Gerard through to Bourdillon (where Tinubu lives) and Lagos Island roads, which are not really as useful anymore, since Tinubu's area boys chased all really big business away from there, save for a paltry few.

Everywhere else is bad, with a capital B.thatz 4 u

And Fashola is closing markets, as if it's not bad enough already, closing with a reasonPAY UR TAXES. He really should be careful, because when you create unemployment, the unemployed must eat somehow. Crime went up in Lekki peninsula when the sand-mining on Ado Road was stopped. I predict a massive rise in crime in Ikeja, due to the closure of Computer village, which will be nothing compared to the number of criminals that will be created from the closure of Alaba International Market.

I am Yoruba, Lagos indigene, and I appeal to Fashola to reconsider these closures AS A MATTER OF URGENCY, for Lagos was built on trade, and if people cannot trade anymore, due to draconian and militaristic actions of government, Lagos will DIE.there are states all over the world built on trade my friend, tokyo japan is one n they are structured n pay tax, computer village and alaba is not  in anyway greater
People like u just want Free, FREE FOOD FREE EDUCATION FREE MONEY FREE LIFE FREE DEATH JUST FREE FREEEEEEEEEE, EVERYTHIGN IN LIFE COMES WITH A PRICE TAG!!!GO AND PAY UR TAX AND SHUT UP!!!
