At independence, Southern Nigeria had 2 region which later turned 3 regions in 1963 through a referendum to create midwest region. The North had 1 out of the 4 which was 25%. The Northern military men strategically divided the country so that they moved from 25% stake to about 55% giving themselves the majority when they were minority at independence.
