Macsjebs: Thomas Aycock's life flashed before his eyes one night in the Everglades as a 13-foot Burmese python squeezed his arm and a leg in its coils.
Aycock, who was trying to bag the snake by himself, still recalls feeling its tail across his back.
"I knew what it was doing, it was going for my throat," said the 54-year-old Florida Army National Guard major who was able to wrestle free during that incident in the summer of 2018.
"I said to myself, 'It can't go down like this.'"
That scare has not stopped him from returning again and again to the sprawling wetland, devoting almost every spare moment to searching the thick brush and sawgrass for more snakes, as he was doing during this interview.
The state encourages hunters to capture or kill the giant, invasive south Asian snakes that are decimating local wildlife.
Dozens of hunters are prowling the Everglades during Florida's 10-day Python Bowl, which ends Monday.
Armed with long metal hooks that resemble fireplace pokers and bags, many hunters catch the snakes and take them in live.
Those who take the most longest and heaviest pythons each will win $2,000 in cash. Other prizes include off-road vehicles.
Aycock and his fellow hunters are spending days and nights slowly creeping across the webs of levees that span the Everglades by foot, bicycle and souped-up SUV looking for the glint of an eye or the shine of brown and black scales.
First found in the Everglades around the year 2000, the snakes were introduced by pet owners and possibly a snake research facility that was destroyed when Hurricane Andrew struck the region in 1992.
The behemoths, some of which measure more than 18 feet (5.5 m) long and weigh more than 100 pounds (45 kg), have wreaked havoc on the fragile ecosystem.
A 2012 study in Everglades National Park by the United States Geological Survey found 99% fewer raccoons, 98% fewer opossums and 87% fewer bobcats. Massive snakes have even been found trying to eat alligators.
"I saw an opossum last night out on the levee and it was the first small animal I've seen in probably five or six months," Aycock said.
Agencies including the South Florida Water Management District and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission have all launched python removal programs in recent years, offering hunters hourly wages and bonuses depending on the size and weight.
According to a 2019 report, contracted python hunters brought in about 1,900 snakes since the program launched in March 2017.
The success has been hard fought.
Despite their size and numbers, which some estimate in the hundreds of thousands, Aycock said it can take eight hours on average to find a snake.
HUNDREDS CAUGHT From the start of the program to mid-2018, the most current data available, hunters working for both agencies spent 14,000 hours in the field yielding 1,186 snakes.
Some larger females have been found holding up to 100 eggs.
"We're targeting removal in bird rookeries, in sensitive ecological areas, so regardless of the snakes' population we know every one removed makes a difference," said Kristen Sommers, the state's wildlife impact management section leader.
Yet on Wednesday night, finding even one proved impossible for Aycock.
The cooler weather meant the cold-blooded serpents stayed hidden and out of sight.
"Every python removed out of this ecosystem serves a purpose in restoring this ecosystem," Aycock said. "We have a good time out here, but it's also a mission we take seriously and are willing to work at."

Last night, I had an uncanny and rather very funny dream. Well, it would have been funny if we were in a normal world but nothing is normal these days.

Anyway, I was thinking about this dream I dreamt last night. In that dream, the US president, Donald J, Trump and his entire administration officials abandoned the White House.
I’m not making this up. The reason for the abandonment was that the Trump’s White House wanted to avoid being served with the impeachment notice, which the US House of Representatives had passed on 18th December 2019, exactly a week before Christmas. And by so doing, Donald Trump became the third president to be impeached in the history of the US, joining the likes of Andrew Johnson (1868) and Bill Clinton (1998). I understand that Richard Nixon would have been impeached and removed but he resigned from his post after it became clear that he did not have the votes for acquittal should his impeachment got to the Senate. Seemingly, the evidence was overwhelming and his obfuscating and denials would not have saved the day. So, he did the only thing that he could to avoid impeachment by the house and removal by the Senate. He resigned from office and his then-vice president, Gerald Ford, took over as the president per the US constitution. Sensible move on Nixon’s part. I assure you no one would want to be remembered as the first president to be removed from the office of the US presidency.
Now, to the president day US Washington politics. Donald Trump has been impeached from office. His impeachment I understand was not totally unexpected as the majorly Democratic lawmakers came to the conclusion that his actions rose to the definitions of “High crimes and misdemeanours, ” which are impeachable offences according to the US constitution or at least the US House of Representatives thinks so. The House passed two articles of impeachments, namely, Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress. The House voted almost along the party line but for one Justin Amash, formerly a Republican but now an Independent lawmaker. I understand that impeachment apart, Justin Amash’s politics are nothing remotely like those of his Democrats’ colleagues. Nonetheless, the lawmaker was so convinced that Donald Trump deserves to be impeached and removed from the office that he broke rank with his former Republican party and voted with the Democrats. I think Justin Amash’s vote for the impeachment gives a sort of cross-partisan support to the impeachment of Donald Trump. That, no doubt, was something the Democrats must be happy about, I should think. That’s huge for them since no Republican voted for the impeachment. And it probably sort of lessens the witch hunt characterisation that Donald Trump frequently calls the whole process at every given opportunity, especially on Twitter.

Okay, I'd be quick and brief as well.
So about 6 months ago, I met my girl on facebook, And after months wooing her to date me, she finally agreed and we started dating..
Like everything was perfect and indeed I fell deeply in love with her even before I met her.
So along the line in our relationship she told she had a best friend who is a guy and they have know each other for like 4years..and that they talk very well (calls and chat) and that they tell each other they love themselves, but if I wasn't cool with it,I could break up she would understand.
As a guy I knew I had fallen for her and I embraced her telling me about the guy after a strong assurance from her that they were not into any sort of relationship with each other.
So my girl called me like let's say a month after we started dating that there was this her friend who she hadn't met and that wanted and she was going to see him, and I was like fine, she should just be fine.
P.S:- I hadn't met with my girl even till the point she went to meet the guy...I was in the west and she was in one of the states in the East..more like a long distance relationship.
Fast forward to days after they met I became uncomfortable with the relationship between my girl and the said new guy she met..I talked to her severally about it and she was at some point swearing not having anything to do with the new guy she just met.
Fast forward to the festive season I came back and I met my girl for the first time..indeed she was everything I imagined and we flowed amazingly well.
Long story cut short in the midst of one of our long conversations I discovered she have at some point had sex severally with her said best friend...so I was like since it was before we met I forgave her and we moved on..
yesterday I asked her if she has anything with the new guy and she swore again not having anything with him that the guy has been asking her out and she refused dating him.

A gunman opened fire in a church in Texas, killing one parishioner and wounding another before being shot dead by members of the congregation.
The gunman stood up from a pew at West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, a suburb of Fort Worth, pulled out a shotgun, a begun shooting.
Police said they were still trying to determine the attacker's motives.
White Settlement Police Chief JP Bevering praised "the heroic actions" of those who confronted the attacker.
The shooting took place at about 11:50 (17:50 GMT), during the morning service. The service was being live-streamed on social media.
Video footage showed the gunman stand up from a pew and speak to a man nearby, who gestured at another parishioner. The gunman then fired at the man he gestured toward.
The gunman fired again, at the man he had spoken to, before a member of the congregation returned fire with a handgun, immediately felling the attacker. Several other parishioners also produced handguns and trained them on the attacker. It was not clear from the video footage whether any of the other armed parishioners fired shots.
The shooting happened during the morning service at West Freeway Church of Christ US sees highest number of mass killings on record Members of the congregation in the nearly full church ducked down behind pews as screaming filled the room.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the shooting "an evil act of violence".
"Places of worship are meant to be sacred, and I am grateful for the church members who acted quickly to take down the shooter and help prevent further loss of life," he said in a statement.
