For all those complaining that the niger deltans get more slots the only thing I can say is it's their oil, all oil companies reserve slots( usually above 50%) for indigenes of their operating areas so it's quite possible for bigx to get those scholarships especially if he's from the niger delta, may God forgive me too I'm also on multiple scholarships from oil companies and government(even rejected one from lag government out of guilty conscience)even though I'm Yoruba and far from being less privileged but I know I'll make it up to Nigerians by not running abroad and staying to serve my people unlike most docs nowadays |
Fhemmmy: Just so sad to see how divided we are in Nigeria all in the name of Tribal superiority . . . I pray that one day we will join hands and fight to liberate Nigeria as a citizen and stop this "My tribe is better" it aches my my heart to know that even the newer generation carry on the torch of tribal war.I blame it on poor parenting |
[/quote]Neither tribe has the right to claim moral superiority |
Go and die: This woman may actually be paying for performing in a country where performance is prohibited.so her so called performance justifies lying to occupy a public office, if this is true and she isn't fired then there's truly no hope for Nigeria |
All yorubas are poor all igbos are rich according to igbos law of Nigeria where lagos remains constant as if I don't see dirt poor igbos in Ikd everyday fortunately I derive no pleasure in the suffering of others no matter where they are from |
idumuose: I would like to know the state with the highest number of cities/townsThere are no cities in Nigeria only glorified villages even lagos is majorly a slum |

0key: @OKKONo mind the guy this is a win win for NMA it's either government implements it or they go on strike and still get it and rest assured they'll have public sympathy with them, this johesu guys are being played and they're falling for it, although he's right about the consultants they're hardly ever around and it's even affecting residency training |
* To meet with govt on Feb. 7 BY: VICTORIA OJEME ABUJA – The umbrella body of the dental and medical practitioners- the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has suspended for now, its earlier directive to all members in Nigeria to withdraw their services from tomorrow, Monday, January 6. This is to allow for full implementation of all the elements of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) within the government set timelines. NMA President, Osahon Enabulele, stated this at a press briefing at the end of the Emergency National Executive Committee of the association in Abuja, Sunday. According to him: “All medical and dental practitioners nationwide are hereby directed to continue to render their normal and highly cherished services to the lovely and caring people of Nigeria.” He noted that the NMA will on February 7, meet with government to reappraise the commitment of the government on the implementation of the MoU signed with the association and take actions as she might deem fit. Enabulele regretted that: “The decision was a very hard one to take because when you have a people who have been pushed for too long into the ambits of despair, you do not get surprise when several strategies are devised to actualised their overall objectives. “Also we recognised that we are custodians of the health of the people, we also feel to heed to the several appeals by ordinary Nigerians in spite of our deprivations. This, to us is a very great sacrifice made by our members and you know a lot of Nigerian doctors are still exiting the shores of Nigeria for other countries where there is better working tools and enabling environment.” |
Complete load of BS |
adeola_drg: Neither, u don't know what u're fighting for! How will SGF solve the problem facing the health sector. Moreover I found out SGF myt not necessarily be a surgeon. Then not only doctors work there, its a public health thing, even a biochemist could be there. Correct me plsss, aw would it solve our problems in d health sector?though the person mustn't necessarily be a surgeon the person must still be a physician i.e a doctor and if I may ask how does skipping solve the problems of infrastructure in the health sector? and also the sgf issue isn't the only thing NMA is asking for but the JOHESU guys will take any opportunity to politicise everything |
MR. WHINNIG:it's not everything that is tribalistic, he said lagos and you're busy mentioning ogun and ondo |
Vessi: Half baked work!Oga you're in Nigeria there's no such thing as world class here, u take what u get |
adeola_drg: Well I don't av anything against the SGF office. It myt be needful but it's not the most important thing to do. The doctors are playing politics with this. That's the reason I think JOHESU will slug it off with them. Government now needs to sit with all the parties involved and arrive at a consensus. My 50 cent.rephrase... JOHESU is playing politics with it |
And the battle line is drawn..... this should be interesting |
Have they released the list for those that applied last year? |
adeola_drg: There are loads of pending issue Shola I suppose. This is definitely not what we need now. Goan read about the SGF office in the US. Wise thinking doctors would av demanded that budget allocation to the health sector be increased, we'd all support them, trust me. Adequate infrastructure should also be on the table and a lot more. Buh what av we? SGF *spits*That's why I called both unions bunch of clowns it's more or less a superiority battle now, anyway as far as more funding is concerned I believe they're approaching it the right way there's no developed country in the world where the government funds healthcare 100% like it's found in the nigeria, people have to start paying health insurance and that's what the NHIS will achieve. 2. If they can force public officials to seek healthcare here government will have no choice but to fix the hospitals and even build more but personally I'd rather they strike to get more funding for residency training, I read somewhere that the government spends 20million naira on it while the US spends $12billion u sef see gap I don't believe in going on strike all the time to push for demands unfortunately the government is unresponsive to dialogue, and yes Shola is correct |
Okon ikott: it should be flat rate.Bro in this life u take what u get, there's no scholarship without some form of bias even agbami pays med science students more than engineering though they're both in universities |
texanomaly: How many white people are even aware there are different tribes in Nigeria? To be honest, I was not aware tribalism existed till coming to NL. I knew two Nigerian families before I knew NL existed. I discovered one was Yoruba. I researched the language because of this fact. I know the other family is mixed tribally. I have no idea what those tribes are. I had no idea there was so much hostility between the different tribes till coming here. I have to wonder if this hostility is as strong in real life, or is it just easier to voice this kind of opinion on a faceless forum than face to face in civilized society? You're right, most won't dare say it face to face, in fact they probably have friends from other tribes |
JOHESU go soon join, when they do I hope Jonathan will ask them how surgeon general affects them or if they want pharmacist-general....... bunch of clowns |
Awo was a great man though he was flawed like every other human being |
purplish: I seriously have been wondering! I smell a rat sha...releasing a list of successful candidates before going ahead to verify studentship, sounds more logical and authentic...I cannot believe that a federal parastatal is doing things this way.Welcome to nigeria sis, federal government scholarships are highly corrupt whether bea or local |
martha: HmmmI think I'm in loff |
President Goodluck Jonathan has agreed to appoint a Surgeon-General of the Federation as demanded by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), a competent source in the Presidency, has said. The source, who pleaded anonymity, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja, that Jonathan gave this concession after a meeting he summoned to avert the NMA Jan. 6 planned industrial action. The source said the person to be appointed to occupy the position would be a medical doctor. It will be recalled that one of the demands of the NMA is that the Federal Government should appoint a medical doctor as Surgeon-General of the Federation. The source also said the president had agreed that the call duty allowance of the doctors running into billions of naira be paid. The source said that following the demand of the association, the appointee would be responsible for public health. “The government has taken a decision to appoint a Surgeon-General of the Federation who will be a medical doctor and will be responsible for public health. “That appointment will be announced soon,’’ the source said. The source said Jonathan had directed the Ministry of Health to collaborate with Ministries of Finance, Trade and Investment in consulting with medical practitioners to supporting private investors to build state- of-the-art hospitals in the country. The decisions, the source explained, were aimed at promoting local potential, improving fiscal policy on medical equipment and checking the growth of medical tourism. The source said Jonathan also directed that before any government official would be allowed to travel abroad for medicals, government must first be satisfied that no such medical services exist in country. According to the source, the president has also agreed to reform the National Health Insurance Scheme to make it more productive. The source said the president had also consented to the demand of NMA to make its representation to the Nigeria Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru. The closed door meeting which was the fourth since December 2013 was attended by Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, Ministers of Health and Labour, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, and Chukwuemeka Wogu. The meeting held at the presidential Villa was also attended by the Director-General of Budget Office, Dr Bright Okogu; and the Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Chief Richard Egbule. It will be recalled that the government had earlier met another demand by the NMA by re-constituting the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. In an interview with State House correspondents after the meeting Uduaghan had said that the president conceded some demands by NMA to avert the strike. Uduaghan, who did not reveal the concessions, said that the nation could not afford another strike in the medical sector. The governor, who is a medical doctor, said the government team would later meet with the NMA on the new development. |
Doc lomaxx and lagusta just made me realise I have so much to learn, I'll get there one day |
The way peeps pull out statistics anyhow is very funny |
Dhelake: Now I understand why many Nigerians fail exams.... The question was centralized around 'HIS PEOPLE' .... and to the best of my Knowledge he was only the Premiere of the Western Region, so I don't understand how you expect him to develop anywhere outside the western region... one thing that cracks me up about all this Awo haters is the fact that if awo was to be their premiere and did as much as he did for the western region... he would be highly celebrated... because most of the people the people this peeps celebrate didn't do as much as much as Awo did for his own people.... I am a big Awo.. he handled certain things wrongly... but show me that leader that got all things rightMe sef tire |
whitecat007: How can you call the person who made you what you are today lazy? If we are lazy then you must be dead. Ibo reasoning at work.Guy it's enough, for once let there be a non tribalistic debate on nairaland |
