Ubenedictus:Why did Christ command the man who came to him to keep the commandments?(Matt. 19:17-19) Do you know that the true saints of GOD are those who keep GOD's commandments and have the faith of Jesus?(Rev. 12:17; 14:12) What reason do you have to disobey GOD's commandments(The 10 Commandments)? |
akintom:I'm yet to see anyone on Nairaland who can prove that the Bible is not 100% truth. |
akintom:I think the onus is on you to prove that the Bible is not 100% truth. |
Auki:I know you muslims hate Paul. But have you tried to research about your cherished islam? Do you know that islam as a whole is propaganda started by the Catholic church(with a motive) during the dark ages, and that Jesuits still control islam fully today? |
akintom:It's either you did not read my post, or you did but your brain could not handle it. Or you know that there is no fault in my post but you must still not agree. It's no problem. |
akintom:The Bible is a book that is 100% correct, and it contains nothing but the truth. And if it contains nothing but the truth, there is no reason why it should not be believed. Therefore, Christianity based on the Bible and the Bible alone is rational, since truth is to desired. |
Question 2: This proof does not conclude to God but to some vague "religious" view. Isn't this "religious" view compatible with very much more than traditional theism? Reply: Yes indeed. It is compatible, for example, with Platonic idealism, and many other beliefs that orthodox Christians find terribly deficient. But this general religious view is incompatible with materialism, and with any view that banishes value from the ultimate objective nature of things. That is the important point. It seems most reasonable that moral conscience is the voice of God within the soul, because moral value exists only on the level of persons, minds and wills. And it is hard, if not impossible, to conceive of objective moral principles somehow floating around on their own, apart from any persons. |
Question 1: The argument has not shown that ethical subjectivism is false. What if there are no objective values? Reply: True enough. The argument assumes that there are objective values; it aims to show that believing in them is incompatible with one picture of the world, and quite compatible with another. Those two pictures are the atheistic- materialistic one, and the (broadly speaking) religious one. Granted, if ethical subjectivism is true, then the argument does not work. However, almost no one is a consistent subjectivist. (Many think they are, and say they are—until they suffer violence or injustice. In that case they invariably stand with the rest of us in recognizing that certain things ought never to be done.) And for the many who are not—and never will be— subjectivists, the argument can be most helpful. It can show them that to believe as they do in objective values is inconsistent with what they may also believe about the origin and destiny of the universe. |
And what becomes of obligation? According to this view, if I say there is an obligation to feed the hungry, I would be stating a fact about my wants and desires and nothing else. I would be saying that I want the hungry to be fed, and that I choose to act on that desire. But this amounts to an admission that neither I nor anyone else is really obliged to feed the hungry—that, in fact, no one has any real obligations at all. Therefore the atheistic view of reality is not compatible with there being genuine moral obligation. What view is compatible? One that sees real moral obligation as grounded in its Creator, that sees moral obligation as rooted in the fact that we have been created with a purpose and for an end. We may call this view, with deliberate generality, "the religious view." But however general the view, reflection on the fact of moral obligation does seem to confirm it. |
Now given the fact of moral obligation, a question naturally arises. Does the picture of the world presented by atheism accord with this fact? The answer is no. Atheists never tire of telling us that we are the chance products of the motion of matter—a motion which is purposeless and blind to every human striving. We should take them at their word and ask: Given this picture, in what exactly is the moral good rooted? Moral obligation can hardly be rooted in a material motion blind to purpose. Suppose we say it is rooted in nothing deeper than human willing and desire. In that case, we have no moral standard against which human desires can be judged. For every desire will spring from the same ultimate source— purposeless, pitiless matter. |
The Moral Argument 1. Real moral obligation is a fact. We are really, truly, objectively obligated to do good and avoid evil. 2. Either the atheistic view of reality is correct or the "religious" one. 3. But the atheistic one is incompatible with there being moral obligation. 4. Therefore the "religious" view of reality is correct. We need to be clear about what the first premise is claiming. It does not mean merely that we can find people around who claim to have certain duties. Nor does it mean that there have been many people who thought they were obliged to do certain things (like clothing the naked) and to avoid doing others (like committing adultery). The first premise is claiming something more: that we human beings really are obligated; that our duties arise from the way things really are, and not simply from our desires or subjective dispositions. It is claiming, in other words, that moral values or obligations themselves—and not merely the belief in moral values—are objective fact |
People need to know this truth! |
jonbellion:If you have nothing meaningful to say, don't mention me please. Thank you. |
FSMs:Go and read. Don't waste all your time on Nairaland vituperating a GOD you believe does not exist. You will achieve nothing at the end of the day. |
FSMs:Ask her whether her Catholic church obeys the Bible whose canons she compiled. Jewish people in the era of Judaism compiled the canons of the OT. Did that stop GOD from discarding Judaism? |
jonbellion:I'm a Christian whose only creed is the Bible, and not human doctrine. Forcing words into one's mouth is not being intellectual. I never mentioned the number of people that will go to hell, okay? But I know that the number is big, very big, "for broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many go in it." GOD knows those who are His, even in that evil organisation called the Catholic church. |
Richirich713:This is the summary of the whole thing. |
Pidgin2:Apostate Judaism was existing for centuries before Christ came to set the records straight. Who and who have gone to Heaven? When did they go to Heaven? Don't you think if the Catholic Church was toxic God would have destroyed it centuries ago, you think He will stand by and watch millions being led to hell? OP, do well to edit the title and write *Catholics only * I came here to read interesting contributions on this topic only to see these rants everywhere. That is not the way GOD works. He allows evil to grow and mature(together with good), so that at a set time, He will justly destroy evil. Remember the parable of the tares? Satan is toxic too. GOD did not destroy him. |
and can help us anytime we call on her son through her. May we too adopted by Christ as we are, hence sons of God (Gal. 45-6); through the merits of our brother and saviour, Jesus Christ, have a share in the numerous graces enjoyed by Mary, amen.Another brazen, typical Roman Catholic unbiblical teaching. Jesus called all those who are weary and heavy-laden to come to Him. He did not tell them to go through Mary first. "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Heb. 4:16 Which special merits did Mary enjoy? And moreover, which Mary is going to help you now? The one that is currently resting in her grave, patiently waiting for the resurrection morning? |
Jesus was in all things made like His brothers(mankind). So, in frailty, in fallenness of nature, in susceptibility to sin and evil, in need for the divine power of GOD, HE WAS MADE LIKE MAN! And because He suffered every possible temptation which man can suffer, with a possibility to yield to the temptations(though He chose not to), He is able to provide succour to those being tempted. Tell me, how can Jesus be able to know what man is passing through in his struggle against sin if He had never been truly a man that is faced with the same challenges with which man is faced? And so, if Jesus does not really know what if feels to be a man in the real sense, what power has He to condemn(pronounce bad/unlawful/unjust) sin in the flesh, as Rom. 8:3 says? Do you realise that Jesus admonishes us to live sin-free lives only because He has found Himself in the same position in which we are now, and still was able to live a sin-free life(by constantly being in touch with His Father)? |
If you claim that Jesus had some kind of divine immunity that is not accessible to every other man, and which preserved Him from sinning, then you mean that the Bible is lying when it says that Jesus was touched with our infirmities, as stated in the text I gave above. And do you realise that this means that there is no hope for the common man? For he cannot be able to live above sin(a criteria for entering Heaven) since He is not Jesus(who supposedly lived above sin with the aid of an immunity not accessible to man). "For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted." Heb. 2:16-18 Jesus took on Himself the very nature of man! |
...and him whom she conceived was and still is God couldn’t have shared in human frailty hence contaminated by sin. This goes to show that Roman Catholicism does not teach the Bible, "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." Heb. 4:15 Jesus was frail and weak just like an ordinary man. He could have fallen into sin but He chose not to. No divine immunity preserved Him from sin. The only divine immunity which kept Him from sinning is that divine immunity which available to all men, including you and me: being in constant touch with GOD. He was always drawing the much needed strength to overcome the world through prayers and communion with His Father. A human being today can also live a sin-free life by following Jesus' formula: always living in constant communion by GOD, being led by His Holy Spirit. |
The doctrine of original sin is a satanic, devilish doctrine introduced by the apostate organization called the Roman Catholic Church. It has no single biblical basis. Neither Mary, Nor me, nor the person beside me was born a sinner. We were only born with sinful tendencies. This means that our nature is inclined ordinarily towards evil. A human being left on his own would choose evil rather than good. If you claim that babies are born sinners: what will be the fate of babies who die at infancy? Is GOD going to destroy them? Don't worry, I know the answer your evil Catholic organization will give me: "Yes. Even babies who don't know anything will burn in hell. That is why it is good to baptize them at infancy." That is to cajole people into practising your unbiblical child baptism. It is clear from the Bible that a baby is not to be baptised, because it does not meet the criteria for getting baptised. That is a topic for another day, anyway. |
foladara777:Bro, don't twist the Bible in a bid to appear credible. "And He built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever." Psa. 78:69 Possible interpretations: 1. He built His sanctuary like the(definite article) earth which he hath established forever. If I say, "the man" or "the chair", it means I'm talking about a particular man or chair out of many. So, this can be understood as GOD talking about the(new) earth which He has ordained to be forever. 2. GOD can decide to simply scatter, destroy/denature and then remake/remould this present earth, just like a potter can do with clay. That makes Psa. 78:69 still stand valid. 3. Your own interpretation. Bro, you're not gonna win in this game of semantics. |
foladara777:There will always be the earth, for it is clear in Isa. 65:17; 66:22; and Rev. 21:1 that GOD will create a new heaven and a new earth. Moreover, the meek will inherit the new earth untainted by sin and sinners.(Matt. 5:5; Rev. 21:27). Everything will be brand new once again from the Hand of the Creator, Yahweh! So, the earth remains forever. |
Powerful article bro. GOD bless you ![]() Indeed: "...The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge." Psa. 19:1-2 "But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?" Job 12:7-9 |
MVLOX:If Jesus was crucified on a stake, one nail would have been used for His hands. But read Jn. 20:25 to see that two nails were used for His hands, indicating that He most probably died on a cross. But how can this argument help you get to Heaven? |
Ubenedictus:Yes of course. No catholic scholar with "d mind of d church" will teach that the Bible enjoins Christians to keep the Sabbath of GOD holy. Why would they teach the truth? Have they not substituted human tradition for GOD's precepts? You appear to have not even an iota of Bible knowledge if you claim that the law, and especially the Sabbath was given only to the Jews. Go and read Genesis, after the Creation, to see when GOD instituted and hallowed the Sabbath. You had better start reading the Bible for yourself and stop following the dictates of your mortal holy father. |
