atheism is not a religion. it simply means we dont believe in any dogma. if religion were true, there shouldnt be soo many of them. even 5 is too many. god hasnt done a good job showing to us that he exists.

The kid was predisposed to to this sort of radical thinking. I read elsewhere that when he was in British International School in Togo, his nickname was "Alfa" because of his radical views. In class, when they discussed the Taliban, he was the only one to defend their actions. So the kid had potential to be a terrorist. He probably spent too much time in London mosques and became more radicalized.

aletheia, your argument makes no sense at all. For something to be true, it has to be verifiable now and not in the future. There is no proof of any god. Condolences to your mother.  But back to the issue at hand. Prayers do not work. It seems god never looses. If she lived people would say its a miracle. And In death people still say she's gone to a better place. Which one is it? It seems god is always 100% right no matter what the outcome is.  Bottom line is prayer dosnt work. If you really believe in prayers, you would pray instead of seeking medical help and going to the hospital.

Good question. So how do you find the real religion? Davidylan, you are basically saying "my religion is the real one". Right? How do you know this? Have you examined all the religions out there? So folks. If there is a GOD, how do you explain the fact that there are thousands of religions in the world? Every one of them claim to be the word of GOD. Which GOD? Do you believe in Jesus? Why NOT in Mohamed? Or Buddha? Or any of the others. What religion would you be today if you were not born into your present belief today? Think about it. You are only a Muslim or Christian today because its all you know. Its what you have been told since you were born. If your parents are Muslims you are mostly likely to be a Muslim. same goes for Christians. Only a few people actually leave the religion of their parents. Your religion largely depends on where you were born. If you were born in Pakistan you are 99.9% likely to be a Muslim.

Christians claim the only way to heaven is to be a Christian. Muslims claim the same. So do other religions. It seems there are many who claim to know "GOD". We all know all these religions cannot be right. So who do you go with? Before there was Christianity, there were other religions. There were other religions who's messiah was given birth to by a virgin (its not unique to Christians). Of course, this is news to many.

Our ancestors were not Christians or Muslims, their religions were not just as advanced like the western religions. Christianity supported slavery until it was no longer in fashion, otherwise most of us would be slaves today. These same people enslave us and then give us their religion. Unbelievable.


Take your time and read the bible, not just random quotes selected by pastors. If you actually read it, you will realize it all nonsense. written by primitive men (not women).  People have dreams and claim its god talking to them. 

For every person that survives an accident or terrible disease, there is another person who didn't make it. The person that survives credits god for been alive. Who speaks for the dead. Its all about chance people.

Atheist don't come out in Nigeria because atheism is seen as a taboo. atheist's are still not fully accepted in developed countries like the U.S, so Nigeria still have a long way to go. According to Sharia Law, the punishment for been an unbeliever is death. So anyone in his right mind better keep is atheism to him/herself. I don't plan on disclosing my beliefs anytime soon. I hope this thread is not dead. I stumbled upon this website while searching for Nigerian atheists. I'm glad I found it. I am still a closet atheist like many Nigerians out there. I didn't realize Nigerians could be so open about this stuff. Thats the power of the internet i guess. I have never disclosed my true feelings to any of my family members. I have always been skeptical of religion, but never had the guts to face reality. I grew up a muslim in Nigeria. My dad is so religious. He even prays 5 times daily. I and my siblings attended "ile keu" or islamic madrasa. I honestly feel my childhood was wasted on all this nonsense. I am glad I have come to my senses and would never put my children true this.

         Religion is the biggest 419 in the world. A scam. Parasites. An unappointed middleman between people and "God". They make so much money tax free. Whao! Total mind control.        I believe religions were invented to help explain the world and control people. Karl Marx put it best when he said " Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people." It is used as a painkiller or sedative. This is why people turn to religion when the are oppressed in life, or when the face prosecution. They use it to justify their situation thinking there is a better life after this one. Unfortunately, this is the only life their is.
       Imagine the world with no religion. No crusades, No wars, No September 11. Just Imagine. All the wars are a result of religion! Israel vs Palestine. Look at the situation in Nigeria. muslims vs christians. Sharia law. Honor killings. I think the world would be a much better place without religion. Science would progress much faster. scientist would be able to do their research without the christian fundamentalist getting in the way. Unfortunately, religion is a cancer that is here to stay. It will take a while to fight off this cancer. Religion has served its purpose and its time to move on people. This is the only paradise we would every know. pls don't ruin it for everyone else.
