@ kobojunkie, you are the one who is obviously not listening to this chat but making noise on NL. From the way I hve been reading ur comments on this thread, it appears you hve been hired to attack Gej unnecessarily. And you re going about it in a most shameful manner. Sit back and watch the chat well. He says he has no issues with appearing before them, he does that regularly to present his budget. And from what you know about Gej, he is a simple and humble man who doesn't engage In ego fight. But the issue is that the resolution is yet to be sent. So the issue of appearing has not even arisen.

Politics / Re: Bomb Blast At Wuse II Abuja (Crystal Lounge) by Dollarman101: 3:56pm On Jun 23, 2012
Mekusnwa: At times, we propagate these Boko Haram activities by our too much talk and panicking. We must understand that these are trying times in the security and peaceful existence of our country. So caution must be exercised in the way we handle some of these issues. A blast went off at WUSE 2, an online guerilla newspaper that prides itself as Sahara Reporters rushed to broadcast that crystal lounge was bombed. They did not bother to ascertain the veracity of the news before going public. Now look at the confusion it has caused. Official repots coming from NEMA. Indicates that an IED was planted on a tree near a plaza possibly by a coward bomber who did not have the balls to approach his target. Meanwhile, it's already trending that a club was bombed in Abuja thus directing the attention of prospective bombers to clubs and joints in Abuja. This false alarm may now trigger future attacks on defenceless eateries, gardens and clubs. You see what irresponsible journalism can cause. I have read thru some comments in this forum and couldn't help but marvel at the depth of ignorance on display. While we appreciate that it is the primary duty of govt to ensure the security of lives and properties, we as citizens have a corresponding duty to be vigilant, take independent steps to guard our selves, desist from spreading fake rumors, report suspicious moves and characters to the security agents. You don't expect Jonathan to wear army uniforms and lead a patrol on the streets of Nigeria before you know he's fighting Boko Haram. He's own is to fund security operations which he has done by committing billions to all the security agencies, Hold regular meetings with Leaders of security agencies-which he does and still did yesterday; Take bold steps towards restructuring the security hierarchy- which he has done by sacking Hafz Ringim, Zakari Biu, 6 DIG's, Andrew Azazi as NSA, Bello Haliru as Defence Minister. He appointed Abubakar as Acting IGP and has left him on an acting capacity in order to ensure optimal performance from him. Now he has appointed a prince of the Sultanate to help him tackle the Boko Haram menace. The president had set up military bases at our border areas in Borno state all to curb the influx of these suicide terrorists from neighboring countries. He did not leave our borders only to immigrations and police. JTF are in steady operation at Maidugri, Kano, Yobe and now Kaduna. Everyday, we hear news of casualties arising from a gun battle between JTF and Boko Haram. The most recent one was the gun battle in Yobe that left 45 men of the sect dead while their leader, Hammed Baba was captured wounded and later died yesterday in custody. So it surprises me when some people just blabb that Gej is not doing a anything on security.
u spoke my mind. Correct smiley

Right from the first paragraph, you will just know it is another desperate attempt by enemies of Gej to rubbish him. I tried reading further and saw where they said the company has no legitimate address, I had to caution myself. Who did this investigation? How did they come about Dan Eteteh in this Malibu transaction? do you think that Etete cannot surrender any house for his official address? Baseless reporting. Im off. Politics / Re: Brazilian President To Lead Delegation Of Businessmen To Nigeria by Dollarman101: 12:16am On Jun 22, 2012
it baffles me the way people come to advertise their ignorance on Nairaland just because they want to hate on Gej. Yesterday, I was engaged in hot debate over the blackmail that Gej left for Brasil with 116 delegates, I asked them the source or the names of the delegates or the officers involved, none came with any reasonable answer. When that delegates blackmail was poo poohed and couldn't fly, they quickly resorted to the propaganda that he abdicated his responsibility and travelled on a useless visit to Brasil . Some even posted pictures of ladies on bikinis and alleged that Gej was on a mission to be on top of them at Brasil. I wondered why we could be so petty in our attacks against the President. I argued yesterday that it was foolish for anybody to ask Gej not to go on an international engagement because of the riots in Kaduna. The president had deployed security to affected states, met with service chiefs, consulted the senate over the propriety of a state of emergency and he handed over the nation to his vice, who coincidenttally hails from the affected state. How does this amount to abdication of duties? Even if Gej were to cancel this visit, it was still the same directives that he gave before leaving that he will still have given. There's no way he would hve gone to Kaduna personally to shoot Boko haram himself. He will still be monitoring the situation thru phone in Aso rock. So unless there's no network in Brasil then I don't see any reason why he couldn't hve spared just 2 days to meet up with an international obligation, monitor the situation thru phone, BB, Skype, video conference etc and head back to Nigeria again. But people kept beefing and abusing him. Some even went the extra mile to belittle the summit and label it a mere jamboree. Now that the news of Brasil's delegation visit has broken out, one would have thought that they will hide their faces in shame but they are not to be outdone. The new pessimism is that nothing will come out from thebBrasilian visit. Unless they have become prophets, I don't see any reason why they shud not keep quiet and wait for the Brasilians to come and go before forecasting doom. Funny enough too, the JTF succeeded in arresting a notorious leader of Boko Haram, Hameed Baba, today thus reinforcing our earlier arguments that Gej's trip doesn't in any way compromise on the Fg's ongoing efforts of tackling the peculiar security challenge mounted by those who hve vowed to hate Gej for denying their beloved candidates access to Aso Rock.

talkless of ruling from Brazil cry
hatred can't come in a better package. Whether you like it or not, Gej is the president of Nigeria and you can't do anything about it till 2015. And even in 2015, he's sure to have my vote and that of majority of Nigerians who believe that this govt has done in one year wot many of his predecessors couldnt do in 4 years. In south south, he has been able to construct Kolo- Nembe-Brass, Benin-Ore, and re award of East west road. In south east, Gej has in less than one yr, completed the Onitsha-Owerri, awarded the construction of Afikpo-Okigwe, 9th mile etc, In south West, Ore-Lagos , Apapa-Oshodi expressway awarded to Julius Berger, in North central, he has in less than one year handled the Keffi -Akwannga-Lafia and Lafia-obi-Awe roads. In North west, Gej has in less than 1 yr done awarded the Zaria -Gusau-Funtua covering over 101 km and which none of these northern leaders did for their people, still in North west, Gej has in less than a yr in office done the Kaduna Byepass. In North East, Kano -Maidugri and Hadejia-Nguru, I challenge all these Gej haters to visit the nearest international airport to them. In less than a yr, the Gej administration has undergone the renovation of all the four major airports. I challenge all these haters resident in Lagos to pay a vist to the ports at Apapa, if they don't observe any change and reforms let them come back to this forum and chase me out. My username is Dollar101. The reports have been sanitized. From 17, the number of agencies operating has been reduced to only 6 thus easing operations at the ports. In addition, Gej introduced 24 hours operations at the ports. Wetin remain again? In Education, the president has established 9 new universities just within one yr in office. He has also set up 2 law campuses of the the Nigerian Law school at yens goa and Yola. He has built and launched the Almajiri school system, which the likes of Buhari failed to do over the years. He has introduced a new curriculUm of 42 subjects involving ICT pand technology for secondary schools, Gej's govt has built over 852 ÜBE schools nationwide in the last one yr. Do i need to talk about the all time increase of budgetary allocation to Education from 266 billion to 345 billion?

This is how they have been deceiving gullible Nigerians on social media. I have checked thru all the major dailies, non reported this fiction. Why is Sahara engaging in petty lies? This post remains another useless and feeble attempt to demonise this govt and clothe it with the robe of insensitivity. If Sahara reporters does not know it, people are taking them less seriously because of their high proclivity for sensational news such as this. That's why we like Nairaland and have followed it with for years. How can you ever manufacture delegate figures at random and expect people to take you seriously. We are not as ignorant and gullible as Sahara reporters would want us believe. We know that this report has no legitimate source to it. It was just the figment of imagination of a mischievous writer at Sahara reporters. I am on twitter 24/7 and have been following major newspapers. Politics / Re: Jonathan's Power Reform Is Positive, working and on track by Dollarman101: 3:54am On Jun 18, 2012
dedeike: @ switney, Much as I would like to join issues with you on your last post but I must quickly commend you for offering the first intellectual opposition to Bart Nnaji's activities. Since this debate started, all we have been seing from those dissatisfied with our views are shallow arguments and vituperations devoid of substance. You even posted a useful link in support of your argument that govt appears insincere about the megawatts generated. I appreciate that. We must endeavour to be factual and constructive in criticising or praising the activities of those entrusted with the mandate to govern us. That way I believe we will make progress. However, I will make bold to respond to all the issues you raised one by one. It is never in doubt that Obj generateed 4000 megawatts. Yes he did. But just like you rightly observed, this 4000 megawatts could not be felt due to age long problems of adequacy of gas, transmission and distribution problems. In 2005' obj signed into law the power reforms act which was to offer the foundation for the first target you mentioned viz; ," expeditiously implement the electric power sector reform programme" . If you read Barth's interview thoroughly, you would appreciate that he credited his reform programme to the power reforms Act 2005 by Obj. That legislation offers the foundation upon which the present reform programmes are erected. So there's no falsehood to it. Secondly, the next target was to generate 10,000 megawatts by 2007 "by existing plants, new host generations and reasonably priced independent power plants" . This is where the NIPP initiative came in. Obj sought to set up over 9 independent power plants I.e Geregu, Allaoji, Afam, Papalanto etc due to its capital intensive nature, obj could not finish before he left office in 2007. Surprisingly, Yarafua came in and abandoned the NIPP projects. The Elumelu probe panel came up and rubbished the projects with allegations of corruption in the management of NIPP. So NIPP was put on hold without any alternative plans on generation. The end result was that our generation capacity dtropped again. We now started having barely 1500 megawatts. When Gej came in, he saw the need to implement the power reforms act hence the revival of the NIPP projects. He launched a power reforms roadmap anchored on the NiPP and the full privatization of PHCN. In less than one year, GEJ's govt has been able to complete the Mambilla and Zungeru power stations bringing back the megawatts to over 4000. In a bid to address the problems associated with transmission, govt has also begun the repair of transmission lines covering over 6000 km and you know this is not a cup of tea. For distribution, they decided to privatize the 11 distribution companies and have signed bulk trader purchase agreement with them with world bank guarantees. Thirdly, the next target you highlighted is "explore alternative energy sources ...." this the govt has achieved by building those power stations which are thermal. They seek to take advantage of our huge gas reserves but unfortunately, this has created another major challenge. Most of the IOC's are skeptical to invest heavily in gas in a market where there's no much demand for commercial gas. That notwithstanding, the NGC which is the gas arm of NNPC is seriously constrained by billions owed it by PHCN. On the other hand, PHCN attributes its inability to discharge its indebtedness to low revenue generation, poor metering, and low tariffs. This brings me to the fourth target as highlighted in your post. Fourthy, the next target reads viz" renew attention to the question of electricity tariffs" it is pursuant to the realization of this objective that govt recently reviewed eelectricity tariffs on June 1. The need to have a cost reflective tariff is long overdue and will play a key role in actualising the 5th target which is " Deregulate the power sector to allow increased private sector participation." Fifthly,, the increased tariffs and eventual privatization of PHCN will now facilitate the much needed private sector investments in our power sector. Thankfully, General Electric co and others have already come in to participate. Gej is really working.
I agree wit you. It's only those who are blinded with sentiments that will read that minister's interview and still come out to say he is not doing much. The guy is on point. I like him. I know he will not disappoint because of his antecedents in the united states of America. He knows wot he's doing.

Politics / Re: How Not To Criticize The Transformation Agenda. by Dollarman101: 8:52pm On Jun 17, 2012
I've been following this topic for sometime now and it's been very interesting listening to the different views and contributions,in as much as am not trying to defend the govt,I would want to advice we source accurate info before criticizing govt,so that we don't mislead people,it's very easy to sit in our comfort zones and criticize govt, well maybe because of the disenchantment with our leaders, but in making hasty generalization we could make a mistake of throwing the baby away with the bath water, everyody are not same.
Honestly I think the President has performed creditably in his less than one year in the life of this administration,President Jonathan made that solemn transformational pledge of ‘promising less, but delivering more’, his administration has recorded landmark achievements in all aspects of national life.I will like to bring some the achievements to our notice.

Stable power sector
Against all odds, Nigeria is on the verge of permanently resolving its power sector crisis. The government made significant leap towards solving the decades-long power sector crisis recently when it increased the electricity generation above 4,000 megawatts, the highest ever. Ministry of Power Prof Barth Nnaji disclosed that it had reduced the incidence of system collapses in the power sector. “Nigeria used to experience an average of four system collapse every month, that is, almost 50 system failures annually. Much as we have reduced the failures in the last one year, our goal is to reduce them to zero,” Prof. Nnaji declared.

According to him, the achievements recorded in the sector in recent time have raised fresh hopes of meeting the 15,000mw target by 2014 and 40,000mw for stable electricity in 2020. Prof. Nnaji recently announced that despite the challenges facing the sector, the government has made stable electricity a top priority by the end of 2012. “We acknowledge that in many homes there is no power. But we are working hard to improve that. Our goal is to make Nigerians have power continuously for 24 hours. We have now set up a framework for all stakeholders to be involved in delivering power. Therefore, we hope to deliver additional 1,500MW of power to the grid by year end”, he promised.

As part of plans to achieve stable power supply, the government launched the power sector reform road-map and invested huge resource in the project. Also, as part of measures to achieve sustainable industrial growth, the government had put in place certain measures to attract foreign investors into the power sector. Notable development in this regard was the establishment of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) Plc, to enhance smooth operations between the various independent power producers and distribution companies.

In its bid to make the sector attractive to private investment, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) also introduced new electricity tariff to take effect from June, 2012. ”There are opportunities in that; this is a business which is not serving us efficiently enough, generating revenue of N300-N400 billion. We estimate that within the next 5 years, it will go well over N1.5 trillion,” explained, NERC Chairman, Dr. Sam Amadi. The commission has also made provision for free meters in a bid to help solve the problems of estimated billings.

The initiatives are already bearing fruits, as the government has struck a number of power development deals. In March, Nigeria received the highest expression of investment support by a foreign investor in the power sector when the federal government and the General Electric (GE) Energy of the United States signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for $10 billion power projects. Under the MoU, which was signed at the Nigerian High Commission in London, the $10 billion would be invested in various power plants with combined capacity of 10,000mw, with GE taking 15 per cent equity in each of the power plants.

The government, on May 15, signed another agreements with two French companies, valued at about $200 million or N3.14 billion, for the expansion of the country’s transmission network. The deal which also enjoyed the blessing of the French government will see the companies undertake the feasibility studies for the transmission upgrade, and thereafter, select and construct a high voltage transmission line and substations. Transmission hiccups remain the biggest challenge in Nigeria’s power delivery system, as the existing 330 and 132 kv network continue to suffer from prolonged and frequent outages, thus underscoring the need for fortification. Sequel to the new deal, the French power firms — Electricite de France (EDF) and the Enterprise de Transporte et Distribution D’electricity (ETDE) — will source the funds from their home government in form of grants to execute the projects.

According to the Ministry of Power, the French companies are to partner with a Nigerian company, Transnational Energy and Power Systems (TEPS) Ltd, for the execution of the project, in line with government’s local content policy.  “This is a sign of investors growing confidence on the power sector reform. We believe that the Jonathan administration is on the threshold of providing Nigerians with the true dividends of democracy and democratic leadership,” commended the CEO of TEPS, Prince Albert Awofisayo.

The federal government also sealed a N240 billion ($1.6 billion) energy and housing deal with a consortium of Swiss and European investors last September. The group, comprising Seagas Services Limited and Oceanmar Services Limited, was led by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Head of International Affairs and Investments, Republic of Kosovo, Behgjet Pacolli.

The government’s effort to improve power generation in the country, especially through renewable energy, also got a boost last May when it received a grant of $7.84 million (N2billion) from the government of Japan. The donation under “The Project for Introduction of Clean Energy by Solar Electricity Generation System” was granted to Nigeria for the provision of solar electricity generation systems and to tackle climate

Barth nnaji who's the minister of the power recently declared that the improvement in power supply in parts of the country is not a fluke, vows to sustain the tempo. “We will certainly sustain what we have achieved and we are taking deliberate steps to attain this. We have a programme to recover as soon as possible lost capacities at existing power plants. Coupled with the scheduled inauguration of some plants being built under the National Integrated Power Project, we are optimistic of achieving the target of 6,000mw.Personally I've noticed a significant improvement in power supply of late.
The agenda also involves making agriculture, together with manufacturing, the crux of the Nigerian economy, the National Economic Management Team has also unveiled an Agriculture Transformation Agenda (ATA) which has the capacity to generate over 3.5 million jobs.To ensure food security and create wealth, 11 commodity value chains: rice, sorghum, cocoa, maize, soybean, oil palm, cotton, cassava, livestock, fisheries and horticulture, have been formulated as part of plans to achieve huge increase in production.

The government is also assisting companies to raise funds from banks to finance input purchase with about N30 billion earmarked for the programme in this year. In addition, government has agreed to pay 10 per cent achievement fees for companies meeting 100 per cent of supply of seeds and fertilizers to farmers.

As part of fixing the challenges in the sector, the Nigeria Incentive Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Lending (NIRSAL) is expected to leverage N450 billion from banks into agricultural value chains. Marketing Corporations are being established for selected agricultural value chains to coordinate the production, investments, grades and standards, market price stabilization, among others for selected value chains in Nigeria. These efforts are geared towards realizing the government’s target.

To ensure that the target is met, the Agric Ministry has developed four key principles in executing the programmes.  The first principle called ‘subsidiarity’ touches every part of the country’s agricultural value chain would   simultaneously. The second approach, involves working within a framework of strategic partnerships with the private sector, civil society and particularly farmers.  The third principle is to treat agricultural endeavour as an investment which must generate return like any other viable business, while the fourth focuses on using bottom-top approach to engender accountability and delivery

Transport sector revival
Lately, Nigeria’s transport sector has shown signs that the reforms initiated by the federal government over the years have started yielding fruits. This follows marching orders by the federal government for the completion of all ongoing projects as a matter of urgent national priority. The projects include the dual-carriage Abuja-Abaji-Lokoja road; construction of Oju-Loko-Oweto bridge linking Nassarawa and Benue states; dual-carriage Kano-Maiduguri road; construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge in Delta/Anambra states; rehabilitation of the Shagamu-Ore-Benin dual carriageway; and the rehabilitation of the Onitsha-Enugu-Port Harcourt dual carriageway.

Government has also unveiled plan to finance six critical road projects in the six geo-political zones in addition to the introduction of a new mass transit bus scheme with the proceeds accruable from the partial deregulation of the oil sector through the SURE programme, the FG recently announced that it has entered into agreement with foreign and local investors to rehabilitate and construct major roads across the country, through PPP model.
Also learnt three important projects, the Apakun (Oshodi)-Murtala Muhammed Airport Road, Lagos, the Second Niger Bridge in Delta and Anambra states and the Nupeko Bridge in Niger State, have also been billed to executed through the PPP funding model.
The railways have not been left out in this aggressive transformation of the transport sector, with the commencement of Mass Train Transit Service (MTTS) on several routes, among which is the Lagos-Ilorin train service which began operations recently. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has taken practical steps in its efforts to resume goods haulage across Nigeria following the launch of Ewekoro-Ilorin weekly cement haulage,it will also be effective in enhancing the economic growth of the country.
The corporation is expected to take delivery of 20 pressurised tank wagons it ordered last year for the haulage of petroleum products across the country,it also comes with special wagons for the haulage of agric produce across the country.. Efforts are also stepped up to ensure that contractors handling the rehabilitation of the three Eastern lines comprising rail lines from Port Harcourt to Makurdi,Makurdi to Kuru and Kuru to Maidugri which were awarded at a cost of 67.bn,the FG has also acquired 25 new general electric locomotive engines and workshop equipment; installed three generators and refurbished 500 wagons and coaching facilities.
The federal government has also made tremendous progress in repositioning the country’s aviation sector with the completion of the first phase of airport rehabilitation project. The N38 billion-worth project which involves remodeling of 11 national airports which includes MMIA,Sam Mbakwe,Yola and Benin airports have reached completion stage, with the second phase starting up this month.
I'll bring up other sectors subsequently so we can criticize constructively and truthfully.

D guy talk say presidio go commission Obajana cement and wetin e mean be say his govt dey create the enabling environment for private sector business to thrive . We must learn to critcise constructively. We appreciate that this govt is imperfect (as all human activity) but to say that nothing is happening at all is akin to turning truth on its head. Nothing else could be more unfair than the expectations that GEJ will turn around every sector in just one year in office. Governance is not an oral activity. Its only a magician that will perform abracadabra and declare good roads, water supply, stable electricity into existence overnight. Presently, Gej's govt has initiated reforms in the power sector. They have completed work on some power stations including mamilla and zungeru. They hit 4000 megawatt by December last year but due to the scarcity of gas and over stretched transmission lines, the power is still unstable hence the recent ongoing construction of transmission lines covering 4000 km. but that is not where it ends. Govt wants to privatize PHCN and allow for private sector participation In distribution of electricity. To this end, govt has signed bulk trader purchase agreements with several companies including General electric and Siemens. The main privatization of PHCN will be in July when the bid process will be rolled out after the Fg have settled all labour disputes relating to PHCN . The recent increment in tariffs is not a deliberate attempt to punish the masses as it is being erroneously portrayed in some quarters ,but a move geared towards making the tariffs cost reflective and attractive for private sector investments in our distribution sector. This govt has undertaken the renovation of the 4 major airports, established 9 new universities, constructing new light rail lines across the country, reformed the ports for 24 hours operations, reformed fertilizer distribution and spearheading the cassava bread revolution. A number of road projects have either been completed or it is ongoing. They include the Minna - Suleja, Kano bypass, 9th mile, kolo-nembe-Brass, Kano-Maidugri, Kaduna eastern bypass, zaria-funtua-Gusau covering over 101km, Apapa-Oshodi, keffi-akwanga- lafia, Lafia-obi-Awe, Hadejia-Nguru, Auchincloss-Okene etc.
