actually if i am to advise you they are both important,learn graphics first ,then proceed to animation,because if you dont understand and know how to create simple graphics the chances that you will be able to create animation well are very little,

2D OR 3D
When planning for your next CG startup you have to be sure of what you want to do ,you have to know where your heart lies,where your passion lies,what you enjoy doing,so make your choice of what you are going to do,are you going to be doing just 2D or 3D ,and if you are going for 3D are you just going to do animation or modeling or both ,know where your passion lies and bring it to life,you will always get maximum results when you do what you love .

FAST AND EFFECTIVE COMPUTERS
This is a factor that you just can not overlook,you need the best of the best,fast computers,massive RAMs,super effecient graphics card ,lightening speed processors ,and everything you need to have the fastest computer,and regarding efficiency,you have to consider battery life (for mobile workstations),screen size and so on.I know finances might come in to play for your choice ,but always make sure you get the best that your money can buy.Check out my article on things you should consider before choosing a computer for CG

PERIPHERALS
Computers can't do it all ,think of better ways of speeding up your production,consider other gadgets that will make your production professional-mocap suites,high definition cameras,3d printers,3d scanners and so on.


POWER
Now my major comes in -(Electrical Engineering),no electronics can run without power ,the issue is the source of power.In Nigeria for example we have a huge power problem ,so you have to consider what source of power you will be using,be it a generator ,solar,inverters and so on,from an engineering point of view i will advice you choose wisely because your decision on what power plan you choose will immensely affect your budget and have a huge ripple effect in your productions.

YOUR TEAM
I have never really being an advocate for considering only people with a degree for CG (its my opinion,you should not consider only people with a degree),or someone with 15 years experience or 5 years experience (it doesnt really matter),I believe and i know there are just 3 major things you should look out for in a person before employing him or her - CREATIVITY,TEAM WORK ABILITY AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS,this is CG and not some executive job where you have to pour out all the knowledge you have crammed out of massive books ,its CG ,its art ,its a feeling,its all about creativity folks ...choose wisely .........

WORKSPACE
This is where your entire CG team will have physical communication,with themselves and their computers ,so please plan and choose you workspace environment wisely,a poorly ventilated environment is bad for your team and for the computers!!!,colors matter a lot,consider art paintings on the walls ,sculptures of humans and animals,and the likes, all these can give your team the inspiration they need ,make the environment feel alive !!!!

WEBSITE
The digital age is growing faster than organisms !!!!!.Everybody is online people rarely want to visit offices anymore ,they just want to sit at the comfort of their homes and get things done,hence a website is as important as your workspace itself,when i say a website i dont mean just a jumbled up arrangement of html and php codes ,i mean a website that will make your prospective customers feel your presence,its a CG company for crying out loud a badly or poorly designed website will send customers away !!!! .

SOFTWARE
Kindly use the best software that will give you the best results ,in the quickest possible time,period.

COMPETITION
Yeah competition,i can't finish this article without mentioning this.What are the people that started before you doing wrong and how can you correct that,what are they doing right and how can you be better,what have they not taught of,and how can you be innovative enough to create the unthinkable,what is their selling point and what do you intend to use as yours ......ponder on these things.

My PC is malfunctioning. When I scroll down, it scrolls up and when I type, the mouse cursor or pointer rapidly moves to the left instead of staying on the right thereby making what I type laterally inverted

How can I stop this from happening? I use a windows 8 PC.

Hmmm as for the scrolling down its a spiritual problem ,and for the lateral inversion just use a mirror(naaa still won't be readable) *just kidding*

Seriously now HERE IS the problem : your arrow key on the keyboard is pressed down (faulty)

HERE IS THE SOLUTION : tap the arrow key continuously with a considerable amonut of force ,also try to pull it up(but gently so u won't yank it out ) .try that and let's get a feedback for further recommendations if it doesn't work.Deep Regards Donald.

An update or extension-if you like ,for 3ds Max 2016 has been released .Here is a quick run down of the features of the update:

TextPlus

The new text tool allows you to edit, extrude and bevel all in one place, simplifying text workflow, while also providing a powerful tool for motion and info graphics.

Copy and Paste from Microsoft Word® documents and retain font information and style.
Edit the text with global controls as well as local editing capabilities such as kerning, tracking, baseline shifting and scale.
There's a powerful beveling tool that has several presets or create your own set of favorite bevel presets.
Diagramming or custom information text can be created using the value to string tool, allowing you to display any value you would like as text.
You can add animation to your text using animation presets.

Geodesic Voxel and Heat map Skinning

With Geodesic Voxel and Heat Map solvers, you can generate better skin weighting in a fraction of the time as compared with traditional skinning methods. These new skinning methods can be run outside of the bind pose, and even on selected areas, which makes it easier to refine your weighting in particular spots. Geodesic Voxel Skinning can handle complex geometry that is not watertight and can contain non-manifold or overlapping components — as is frequently the case with real-world production meshes.

Once you add the skin modifier to the mesh and the required bones, you can solve in any pose because the bind pose is stored in the modifier. This allows for the user to easily see the difference when in a pose.
You can solve selected areas. This allows the user to focus on troubled areas and see if changing the falloff or the actual solver in a particular area helps.

CG TIP OF THE DAY, when you encounter problems like "internal error occured" in Adobe Fireworks and it just refused to start
Here is what you should do
Navigate to :
C:\Users\<<username>>\AppData
\Roaming\Adobe\Fireworks CSx/en_GB
And delete this file (fireworks CSX panel prefs.xml

Note : "X" in the file path is your CS version eg 5,6 etc .

yeah seun just showed that to me too,and its funny why and how I got automatically banned for just answering someone's question !!!!! ?,I think Seun needs to review how the antispam bot works and make some corrections ,but when I analyzed the whole thing I noticed where my mistake came in but it wasn't my fault ,the guy who I was actually trying to help rectify the issue in art and graphics section,made a duplicate post in another section,but after I answered him in art and graphics section,I replied him again in the duplicate post but not with the same answer ,I just told him"to go back to art and graphics that I have answered his question there",but anyways I will just wait for the ban to be lifted ,but I didn't violate any nairaland rules,I believe Seun should kindly review how the anti spam bot works and make some adjustments.God bless Seun ,God bless Nairaland.
