Nigeria's apex bank, Central Bank of Nigeria has granted Diamond Bank Plc the approval to operate as a national bank following its application for it.

The bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Uzoma Dozie, said this in a statement signed by the bank’s Head of Media, Ezechinyere Anyanwu, on Friday in Abuja.

According to Dozie, the move was part of Diamond Bank’s strategy to focus on Nigeria’s significant opportunities.

He said that the change in the license means Diamond Bank could expand product services to Nigerian consumers.

Gospel singer, Nikki Laoye and husband, Alex Oturu have separated after 6 years of marriage.

The couple haven't been seen together in public for a while and both have also been spotted without their wedding bands especially in recent pictures.

A family source told LIB that they are no longer living together as they have been separated for about a year due to possible irreconcilable differences. The source added that they might have even begun divorce proceedings but have split on amicable terms and remain friends.

Online media has gathered that Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has applied for a visa to enable him to visit the United States. This was learnt yesterday.

It was gathered that the former Vice-President appeared for an interview at the US Embassy on Tuesday in Abuja.

It was further gathered that Atiku would use the trip to make what was described as “political statement” ahead of the 2019 presidential election.

Etta Ng Chok Lam, Jackie Chan’s 19-year-old daughter confirmed on Monday morning that she has married her 31-year-old Canadian internet celebrity girlfriend, Andi Autumn.

Ng shared a photo on her Instagram, looking happy. Both wearing white dresses and holding a marriage certificate dated November 8, 2018. Under the photo, Ng wrote, "united by love and law, on our wedding day”.

"We have all been hurt but if you can dream of love, you can find it. Love is kind, it does not judge. Love is both strength and weakness. Love can make [a] change. Love wins!” she wrote.

Many internet users expressed their blessings on Instagram as well as Weibo, China’s Twitter-like service.

Ng is Jackie Chan’s daughter with actress and former beauty queen Elaine Ng Yi Lei, who announced her pregnancy and disclosed her affair with Chan in 1999, although the pair did not marry.
Ng and Autumn started dating in 2017 and moved to Canada in October that year, but their relationship failed to win support from her parents.

In April, Ng solicited help from the public in a YouTube video that went viral. In the video clip, Ng said she and Autumn were on the verge of homelessness and blamed her "homophobic” parents.

At that time, Ng’s claims were denounced by her mother Elaine Ng.

"I feel that if they have no money, they should go find work. They shouldn’t film a clip telling others they are broke and who Etta’s father is. People all over the world work hard and don’t rely on someone else’s fame to get money,” Elaine Ng was quoted as saying by website Coconuts.

Nigeria's High Commission, London has fired over 50 staff. This is over an alleged restructuring of the organization and budgetary constraints.

The dismissed staff of the Nigeria High Commission London were asked to accept the letter that was dated 22nd of November, 2018, it was gathered that the Commission claimed the dismissal took effect from 1st of January 2018.

Speaking on anonymity basis, a source disclosed that the staff were disengaged, so the management of the commission can employ their friends and family members into the vacant positions. The dismissed 50 staff were also asked reapply for the same job if they so wish.

Going by fresh reports, another meeting between the federal government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) ended on Monday night without an agreement.

The meeting which reportedly started at about 5 p.m. at the Federal Ministry of Education was to find a lasting solution to the ongoing strike by the university lecturers.

The union embarked on the strike three weeks ago over the poor funding of Nigerian universities and non-implementation of previous agreements by the government.

Conmebol have put forward a proposal to FIFA arguing that the World Cup should take place every two years rather than four, president Alejandro Dominguez Wilson-Smith has confirmed.

The former leader of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe is in Singapore for medical care and now unable to walk because of ill health and old age, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said on Saturday.

Mnangagwa told his ZANU-PF party supporters at a rally that the 94-year-old Mugabe had been receiving medical care in Singapore for the past two months.

"He (Mugabe) is now old. Of course, he now is unable to walk but whatever he asks for we will provide," Mnangagwa told hundreds of supporters in Mugabe's home area of Zvimba, about 100 km (60 miles) west of the capital Harare.

According to the results of the poll announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Fayemi won in 12 of the 16 local governments, leaving only four LGs for Prof. Kolapo Olusola of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Facebook owned social network, Instagram said on Wednesday it will add a section dedicated to long-form video, expanding beyond its photo-sharing app roots in a competition among streaming services for consumers’ time.

Instagram Chief Executive Kevin Systrom said at an event in San Francisco that the section would be called IGTV and feature videos from rising internet celebrities and artists.

Donald Trump will meet the Queen when he visits the UK next month, according to reports. Originally the US president was invited for a full state visit but after an outcry, it was downgraded to a working visit.

However, the US ambassador to the UK has told Sky News that a meeting with the Queen has been scheduled in. Trump will be visiting Britain for the first time since becoming president on Friday 13 July.

The United States of America has withdrawn from the United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday accusing it of a "chronic bias against Israel," a move that activists warned would make advancing human rights globally even more difficult.

Standing with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Haley slammed Russia, China, Cuba and Egypt for thwarting U.S. efforts to reform the council. She also criticized countries which shared U.S. values and encouraged Washington to remain but "were unwilling to seriously challenge the status quo."

The United States is half-way through a three-year term on the main U.N. rights body and the Trump administration had long threatened to quit if the 47-member Geneva-based body was not overhauled.
