A Botswanan rape victim pulled a shocker as she refused to testify against a Zimbabwean man who was arrested for raping her and others.

New Zimbabwe reported that prosecutors in Botswana were left stunned when one of the rape victims (name not supplied) who was raped by Oscar Chabaya (34) in Botswana refused to testify against him. The lady is alleged to have instead asked police officers handling the case to give her Chabaya’s contact details as he had sexually satisfied her.

It was gathered that the suspect's rape attacks began in March 2017, where he would gain entry into his victims’ houses through windows left open. Once inside, he would search the house for cell phones before raping the victims without protection.

Chabaya was accused of targeting tertiary students under the age of 24 before breaking into their homes at night to rape them. He would tell his victims he was good in bed and they would call him begging for more.

Nigerian fraud suspect Raymond Igbalode Abbas (Hushpuppi) and Olalekan Jacon Ponle (Woodberry) were extradited by Dubai police to the United States.

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the full reopening of markets in the state.

The Lagos Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Dr Wale Ahmed, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement made available by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Gawat Jubril, noted that both food markets and non-food markets can reopen every day of the week.

Before the announcement, food and non-food markets were allowed to operate three days in a week – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

The state government had regulated the opening of the markets to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

The United States has shut down its consulate in Lagos State for two days over the #ENDSARS protests.

The US embassy and consulate in a statement, on Tuesday, said, “Multiple demonstrations are ongoing across Nigeria – to include areas within the consular districts of Abuja and Lagos.

“Although most demonstrations are peaceful, some have become violent and have shut down major thoroughfares and bridges.

“Some police stations have been targeted. Lagos State closed all schools indefinitely as of October 19 due to protests and implemented a 24-hour curfew starting at 4:00 p.m. on October 20. Consulate General Lagos is closed for the rest of today and tomorrow.’’

Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police, says the training for operatives of the special weapons and tactics (SWAT) unit will commence on Monday.

The new tactical team was set up to replace the disbanded special anti-robbery squad (SARS).

In a statement on Sunday, Frank Mba, force spokesman, quoted the IGP as saying that SWAT will operate within “high professional and ethical standards. rule of law and dictates of best international policing practices”.

“The IGP reiterates that no personnel of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) will be a member the new Tactical Team. He notes that the officers selected for the training are young, smart and energetic officers who have acquired not less than seven (7) years working experience with clean service records – no pending disciplinary matters, no record of violation of rights of citizens or misuse of firearms – and are physically fit to withstand the rigour of SWAT Training and Operations,” the statement read.

“The selected officers shall be subjected to physical fitness test, medical and toxicology screening etc and those found to be unsuitable shall be discharged.

“The ICRC, an independent International human rights and humanitarian support organization with over 71years of experience in humanitarian services and institutional support and development, will provide resource persons and materials to handle the human rights components of the training program.

“Specifically, they will handle topics touching on humanitarian laws, police conduct in conflict situation, human rights standard especially in the use of force and firearms, arrest and detention amongst others.

“Other areas of the training program will include modern-day police ethics and values, Intelligence-led policing, Operation planning/Tactical decision-making processes, Hostage rescue tactics and operation, weapon handling, first aid/basic life-saving skills, stress/fear management, police-citizens relations and emotional intelligence etc.

“The training modules will be handled by other carefully selected development partners, security experts as well as veterans from the civil society and human rights community.”

Giving an example she spoke about how a minister of the country promoted this ugly trend by indulging in it himself. She made clear her example by pointing out the Ughelli shooting.

The Ughelli (Delta State) shooting saw the killing of a young male who was established as an armed robber. Going by Kemi, she said the Minister instead decided to share false photos and narrative.

This false narrative made the journalist to further her investigation and found that the person pictured in the post of the minister was a young man with wounds to the head already healing (these wounds were not fresh).

Foreign spouses and partners of Australians will have to pass an English language test before they will be issued a visa to stay in the country permanently, according to acting immigration minister Alan Tudge

The government said on Thursday that the move would help new arrivals settle in Australia.

The test would also apply to current permanent residents, who are not citizens.

“We will require an applicant and a sponsor to have met functional level English or to have at least made reasonable efforts to learn English,” Tudge told national broadcaster ABC on Thursday.

“For most people that would mean doing about 500 hours of free English language classes,” the minister added.
