The Rivers State Government will interface with the Inspector General of Police and the Rivers State Police Commissioner to produce the sacked Factional Rivers State APC Chairman, Ojukaye Flag Amachree in court for his murder trial on March 18, 2019.

Addressing journalists after the Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Wednesday adjourned the murder trial of Ojukaye Flag Amachree, Counsel to the Rivers State Government, Chief Godwin Obla (SAN) said the interface has become necessary because of the refusal of the sacked Factional Rivers State APC Chairman to willingly appear in court.

Report has it that a Captain in the Nigerian Army has allegedly been abandoned by the army after being attacked with a grenade by armed bandits in Zamfara on the 29th December 2018.

According to Ibrahim Bello, the captain who served in various parts of Borno state including Chibok, when Boko Haram was at its peak, fought many battles some side by side with the Late Col. Abu Ali, engaged Boko Haram terrorists for 6 whole years, after which the Army posted him to Zamfara when the issue of armed bandits started getting out of hand.

The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has decimated a Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) camp and neutralized some of their fighters at a settlement called Arboko in Borno State.

The operation was conducted on 18 February 19 while a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet and an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform were providing close air support to troops of 82 Brigade Nigerian Army. In the course of the operation, the ISR aircraft spotted a group of BHT fighters within Arboko village and vectored the Alpha Jet to engage their camp with rocket fire, thereby degrading the terrorists’ structures and neutralizing some of their fighters.

The NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, will sustain its efforts to completely destroy all remnants of the terrorists in the Northeast.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Zonal office on Monday, February 18, 2019 arraigned an Abuja based car dealer, Obinna Clement Ogbuehi before Justice A.A. Nwobodo of the High Court of Enugu State on a two-count charge of obtaining under false pretences and criminal conversion of $25,300 (Twenty Five Thousand Three Hundred U.S Dollars).

Ogbuehi‘s offence according to the charges amount to stealing contrary to Section 342 of the Criminal Code Law of Enugu State, and Obtaining Money by False Pretences contrary to Section 1 (1) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, both of which are punishable under the same laws.

There is no plan to remove Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Mahmood Yakubu over the abrupt postponement of the general elections, the Presidency said yesterday.

A leading politician has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari was planning to give Yakubu the push over last Saturday’s postponement of the elections.

“It is not true,” a Presidency source said.

The denial came amid claims that Prof. Yakubu has taken charge of logistics for the elections.

Polls Postponement: The PDP after due consideration of the provision of the Electoral Act, is set to reopen its open campaigns consequent upon the postponement of Presidential and Senate elections by INEC from the earlier scheduled date of Feb. 23, 2019.

The PDP rejects the wrongful administrative prohibition of open campaigns by INEC, holding that such administrative pronouncement was erroneous, directly in conflict with the provision of the Electoral Act and is not backed by any other law in our country.

Our position is predicated on the clear provision of section 99 (1) of the Electoral Act which stipulated that “for the purposes of this Act, the period of campaigning in public by every political party shall commence 90 days before polling day and end 24 hours prior to that day.

Many villagers were killed in an attack by unknown gunmen in Kajuru local government of Kaduna state, less than twenty four hours to the purposed presidential and parliamentary elections.

The attack occurred on Monday and was a reprisal after an earlier incident that left many dead, a resident said.

Gov. Nasir el-Rufai on Friday announced the recovery of 66 bodies on the eve of the now-postponed general elections, leading many to believe the killings took place that day.

The Special Assistant on Youth Development to Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State, Lawrence Ngozi Akpomiemie popularly referred to as ‘Notorious’, has been killed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

It was gathered that Akpomiemie, popularly called Ngozi, was murdered in cold blood on Friday night in Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state on his way from an undisclosed outing.

A source, who preferred not to be named, told SaharaReporters that the deceased was ambushed by the gunmen while returning from an outing with a lady suspected to be his girlfriend, on Friday night. However, it was not clear at the time of this report if the lady was also killed during the attack.

A young boy simply identified as Micheal has been rescued after being abandoned by his father who accused him of witchcraft and being responsible for the hardship in the family in Akwa Ibom.

According to reports, the father tried to kill the boy on two occasions by stabbing a machete on his head.

It was gathered that the father’s attempt to kill him failed so instead he took Michael far away from home in the middle of the night so he wouldn’t be able to trace home again.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, has arrested six members of a syndicate of Internet fraudsters at the Iyana Era, Badagry area of Lagos State.

The suspects, Samuel Ndubisi, Samuel Gaza Tanko, Efe Godwin Okoye, Onyekachi Emanuel, Sari Isaac Felix and Ahmed Quadri, were arrested during a sting operation carried out by operatives of the Commission on February 13, 2019.

Items recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest include laptops and mobile phones.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office yesterday arrested14 suspected internet fraudsters believed to be undergraduates. They were arrested in Awa area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The suspects are: Igberase Hope Odianosen, Afolabi Wasiu, Odeneye Eniola, Olajide Timilehin and Ogunnowu Samson. Others include: Olaniyi John, Ogunyale Elijah, Mohammed Ogungbe, Alaga Sherif, Soyombo Omogbolahan Ridwan, Adedoye Odeko, Shonibare Kayode, Akindunjoye Solomon and Dalamu Kofoworola.

They were arrested at their residence following series of intelligence reports on their alleged involvements in cyber crimes.

A tragedy was averted today after a container fell inside Onitsha main market in Anambra state.

It was gathered that the container fell from a truck while being transported at Haruna by Ifejika junction area of the market.

According to reports, no casualties were recorded.

The incident caused a scene among traders at the market who thanked God for averting danger from them.

Country Director-General, International Centre for Migration Policy Development, ICMPD, Michael Spindelegger, has said about 1000 Nigerians in Austria would soon be repatriated.

Spindelegger, who gave the hint, yesterday, at the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said the repatriation was being put on hold for now to enable Austrian firms set up in the country and provide gainful employment for those to be repatriated.

He added that the proposed programme would facilitate reversed migration of the irregular migrants, who had no likelihood of being given legal residence in Austria.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has expressed anger over alleged killing and abduction of its members in Imo and Abia states by security operatives.

A statement issued on Tuesday by Comrade Emma Powerful, spokesman of the group, warned that IPOB may be left with no choice but to resist the Nigerian Army with equal force at the minimum.

The People’s Democratic Party ( PDP ) has described Monday’s pelting of President Muhammadu Buhari in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally, as a sign of rejection.

According to the main opposition party, the action was a direct response by Nigerians to his four years misrule as depicted in the expansion of poverty, corruption, divisiveness and bloodletting across the country.

Pandemonium broke out on Monday at the venue of the presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State following the arrest of some suspected thugs who engaged themselves in a bloody clash.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on February 11, 2019 arraigned one Lilian Bisi Kadiri before Justice Adebukola Banjoko of a Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Maitama, on a one-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence.

Lilian was alleged to have at various times collected a total sum of N21,450,000 from her victim in the guise that she was going to help secure jobs for his relatives. She, however, failed to help secure any jobs, and did not refund the money collected.

The count reads in part: “That you, Lilian Bisi Kadiri, between May 2014 and March 2015 within the Abuja judicial division of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory obtained the sum of N21,450,000 (Twenty One Million Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) from one Christopher Aneke, which was paid into your Skye Bank account under the false pretence that you are capable of securing employment for his relatives, which pretence you knew to be false, and you hereby commited an offence contrary to Section(1)(a)of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act (2006) and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act 2006.”

A woman, Juliet Phillips and her mother as well as a retired director in the Community Development Department of the Ministry of Women Affairs in Delta State, Collins Ogbor have been arrested over alleged stealing and sale of a two year old, Testimony, in Delta State.

It was gathered that the trio were arrested at Idogbo in Ikpoba-Okah Local Government Area of Edo State by officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force from the “A” Division in Warri.

The prime suspect, Juliet Phillips, who operate an illegal orphanage, Godswill Ophanage at Ekpan community near Newton Agbofodo’s compound allegedly stole baby Testimony, a twin from the mother, believed to be close to imbecility, on November 28,2018.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office, on February 1, 2019 secured the conviction of one Ojedokun Oladapo before Justice R.B. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan on a one-count amended charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence.

The count reads: “That you, Ojedokun Oladapo, between September and October 2018, at Ibadan within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, by false pretence and with intent to defraud, obtained the total sum of N4,900,000 (Four Million, Nine Hundred Thousand Naira) only from Pastor Adedigba Charlse, when you falsely represented to him that the money was meant to facilitate the process of fund raising drive from Yinka Ayefele’s Friends on behalf of Yinka Ayefele, for purchase of a parcel of land in Ibadan, which representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence”.

Oladapo who opted for a plea bargain, pleaded “guilty” to the charge preferred against him.

Two women have been killed in Akenfa community, a suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, with their vital organs harvested by persons suspected to be ritualists.

The killings occurred in separate incidents in Akenfa community, and have caused panic in the area.

A mother of four and a fish seller identified as Glory Omo-Ohwo, an indigene of Delta State, was raped and her skull smashed. Her body was dumped in an uncompleted building at Akenfa 1 area on Wednesday.

This is coming barely a few days after a mother of four was gruesomely murdered, with her face unrecognisable and brains missing.

A 16-year-old boy who was declared missing, has been found dead in an apparent case of murder. The deceased identified as Eugene Kweku Gyamerah was reported missing on January 23 but his lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of Friday at Monkey Hill, a popular forest reserve in Takoradi area of Ghana.

His alleged murder has caused fear and panic in the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis, especially among his schoolmates at the Bishop Essuah Memorial JHS. The corpse has been deposited at the hospital pending an autopsy.
