Amoto94: Teejay argument in favor of culture is good bar few own goals he's spot on, the culture of many ethnicities are dying out and being supplanted by dangerous ideologies that are counterproductive to sustainable and progressive society; consumerism has supplanted conservatism, greed has supplanted generosity and selflessness, individualism has supplanted communalism. I can go on and on about the impact of alien cultures and what it portends for our future. You do realize that when you say "alien culture", that is literally every other culture apart from your own?. For instance, an ebira culture is alien to igbo culture. An hausa culture is alien to yoruba culture. Take for instance, an igbo person about to marry a Fulani woman does not know that he's about to receive the literal "beating of his life". In Fulani culture, a potential groom is whipped furiously by clans men as a representation of his strength. So in this post you make, are you saying, all alien cultures are bad, and we should all be insulated from acculturation?? 2, what are these "dangerous ideologies" you speak of? Because what you mentioned like greed, selfishness and the rest aren't ideologies. These are human traits found all across the human race. Please do justice to the question. |

Okay, and I won't even lie that he speaks some truth and make some reasonable points, But God forbid that you ever quote him to disagree or drop your own alternative opinion, or say, "what if it's like this?"
Like, you talk about wanting to engage intelligent people in a stimulating discussion, but of all your arguments in here, are there one or two people that you can point to that you actually had an interesting, civil *conversation* with?
You will always want to share or post things that YOU deem great and worthy of sharing, while believing you're above the rest of the other things people talk about, but the moment someone quotes one of your captions or takes, it's all blazes.
If you deem nobody in here worthy of engaging you, tf you posting in here for then? It's not balancing. Do you know that this is actually his modus operandi? A cursory look at his posts will show you this fool always claiming to not have time the moment anyone engages him. Wish I could like this post a million times. This was a hit, back to back!!! stxrlight: God.
You're simply too fixated on your own points that you even even want to consider an alternative perspective at all.
Heck, do you know what nuances are? Or do you understand that different things can be truthful at the same time??
You're really coming off as all these hotep peeps. An extreme wokist.
It is okay to be woke, and to be culturally aware, but not to the point of whitewashing one's race.
How do you dismiss his submission, calling it a tripe that you won't read, and then sticking your own conclusion and judgement and labels on him by all means?
If you cannot be bothered to READ his comments, then I don't think you're in any place to misjudge or misquote him, because in one of his responses above, he clearly went into the reasons WHY African cultural practices are barbaric. And because you come for my head, understand that why something is a way is different from ALL things being a way.
Do you think there's nothing you can learn from him? Like, you think you've reached the enf of knowledge and you're always right?
You cannot dismiss the truth in some of what he's saying and if it's that you disagree with him making it generalised, fine. Definitely not all of African history is barbaric, useless and what not.
Again, he clearly punctuated that his CRITIQUE of African cultures is not from a place of "eurocentricism", but you wouldn't know that, since he you didn't read responses, right?
If I criticise some things that Yorubas do, does that make me anti-Yoruba and and an Igbo supremacist?
I absolutely agree with the bolded part of your comment, and perhaps if it was that idea, air that your submissions come with and direction the whole conversation took, it might have been fruitful.
You're making generalisations the same he is, buried in clapbacks of haughtiness, insults and whatnot.
All of this is just...uck. Some many times you've said how the conversation is above you and you won't dignify with a response, but you keep circling back, responding from the sides, going back to quote him again.
Do you just want to keep posting into an echo chamber? If you believe his points or his quoting you is not worth your time, effort, why haven't you "dead" the back and forth a long time ago? |

A001: As an African, there are some things you shouldn't even consider let alone say. If you say things like "African history is useless", "African cultures are barbaric and savage and should be abolished" among your fellow Ibos, most of them will castigate you.
On this forum, if any poster reads my posts which are mostly based on facts and evidence and they insult or abuse me like some do, I'd reply them in kind. No matter how provocative, these opinions are to you, what you should try and do is know why anyone would ever think like that or see the world like that and 2, try and reorientate the person on what you think is better. What you shouldn't do is fly into unwarranted abuses.. That's just not normal. And I think you are oversimplifying my points soo much to create a narrative. "African cultures are barbaric and savage and should be abolished". My point about this is that there is nothing like "African culture" in the first place because Africans don't share a unified culture but rather soo many different cultures within the continent. And yes, many aspects of African culture are indeed barbaric and savage and should be done away with. Note the world, "many aspects". I can list about 5 off the top of my head. 1. Misogynistic laws. Many African cultures severely undermine the role of women in society. In my own culture, women can't own property. 2. Forced marriage. In Many African cultures, children and women have no choice in the choice of their husbands. You have arranged marriages by relations and recognition of child marriages. 3. Female genital mutilation and general scarification. You have cultures in Africa where the women will never ever feel sexual satisfaction because their sexual organs have been heavily mutilated. Then scarification of children. You have cultures where children are given heavy scars in parts all over their bodies, from the forehead to the faces to the stomachs to the hands and legs and many children grow up detesting their heavy visible scars. 4. Class segregation. The OSU culture in igbo is still something to be soo ashamed of. 5. Diabolical practices. Example where in today's world, innocent people are still being murdered and sacrificed when a king dies. These are but few examples of the barbarity and savagery of some African cultures that we indeed need to abolish unless you want us to retrogress into the 6th century.. So A001, you can see that when my position is expanded and not just crammed into a sentence, it's becomes more logical. All cultures grow and adapt, no one should be clamoring for us to go backwards, rather we should acculturate and move forwards our cultures must evolve to fit into the modern world it goes I to extinction. |

A001: Empty brain criticising Nigerian politicians when he's much worse. If imbes like you get to powerful positions in the country/continent, the black (African) race will soon become extinct. Foolish people like this should always be kept as far as possible away from the corridors of power. We need politicians that are thinkers to lead, not dimwits. Geestenjay, your grouse with me seems to stem either from a misunderstanding of my position or a display of selective bias on African history and past. You are angry with me for calling African history barbaric, and maybe you think that in me calling African history barbaric, I also look favorably at European history or other regions history. OR you yourself want to look at other people's history as very terrible and African history as a good thing. Except, the simple truth is that the human race evolved from simple minded barbarity. No empire of the past came through without violent bloodshed and innumerable atrocities by modern day standards. 2000 years ago, African empires constantly battled themselves for supremacy, subjugation and expansion. Not even foreigners but sometimes, tribesmen against neighboring tribes tribesmen. One Yoruba village against another Yoruba village, one Igbo vs another igbo town. Anioma vs aniocha battle is a tale told till today where kinds sacrificed their own women to gain an upper hand. Then talking about African cultural practices, you see the most ignorant and barbarity of the barbarics. Legalized institutionalized incest. Where if a father of a household died, the son could inherit his own mother as a wife. Mass murdering of babies; where innocent twins were slaughtered in their numbers. Mass murdering of albinos; where albinos were slaughtered at birth. Needless murdering of virgins when a king died. Now mind you, some of these practices were not indigenous to only Africans, as I said earlier, our modern civilization grew from absolute carnage and barbarity. But for you to always point out that the atrocities of the western world and then sieve out that of your own ancestors or get violently angry when it is pointed out shows your hypocrisy or selective bias thereof. |

I'm one of those that used to calm down and read some of the articles he posts no matter how long because I thought it stimulates the mind but I found out that once you engage him, you're met with a barrage of insults. Once you render an opinion or counter opinion, you automatically become "low IQ", "foolish" or "ignorant" and he ends up making people avoid him because of that lack of emotional maturity. For instance I find out what I think is a major flaw in a particular line of reasoning of his. A001 says religious people are mentally enslaved and I agree wholeheartedly to that statement but upon elucidation you see our divergent views. He seems to think religious people are mentally enslaved to their Colonial masters or that black people are mentally enslaved to white people via religion but I think that all religious people, regardless of race, country or tribe are enslaved to religion itself not to another foreign group of people. |
