Rivers State where the wrong color combination of your dresses is enough to have you killed on the spot in many areas.

Disstroy is spot on.

The number one problem of the south is cultism of which Rivers State is the HQ.

For fvcks sake, it was very well known that sooo many cult clashes were sponsored by both Amaechi and Wike. The highest rate of political assassinations have to be in Rivers.

The reason this is an even bigger issue is that this has become a cultural issue. With whole languages, signs, dressings and symbol to go with them.

Less than 50% of students walk into any government secondary school and public university and doesn't come out belonging to one cult group or the other. One has to be very strongly resolved and averse to peer pressure to escape not joining any cult group.

And whether you believe it or not, gangsterism breeds violence ALWAYS!

disstroy is spot on. Insecurity is a big issue in Rivers and this insecurity is one not fueled by ideology or poverty but a nascent culture of gangsterism that has been groomed and nurtured by the state's political leaders.

I don't even know there's an igala community in Anambra. If they're, it means, they're less than 3% of the entire state making the prospects of a person of that community statistically speaking, rising to the very top, herculean. Doesn't mean it can't happen sha.

Hope to see the day it actually happens. We'll be glad to celebrate it.

We saw how APC took this country many step backwards, we've seen how our leaders have been completely useless for soo many years since our parents were born. We've never tested good leadership in this country.

Your fellow youths and Nigerians successfully banded together to form a political block to dismantle the terrible leadership class of the country, but many, decided to betray that cause because the carrot of tribalism and familiarity were dangled to their faces..

The Obidient movement was never about Peter obi, it was about a class struggle to seize power from leadership that have failed this country. It was about us the masses carrying out a bloodless coup across the country, from Abia to Rivers to Lagos to Kaduna to Zamfara.

But unfortunately, part of the intelligent masses let themselves be used against their own interest.
A matured man would be shouting "OUR LAGOS", Meanwhile he's struggling to put bread on his table. (No shade here). Allowing political propaganda rewire his brain and be a tool for corrupt politicians that don't care for him but care about their personal private jets and private mansions in Ikoyi and bourdillion while the children are safely tucked away in multimillion dollar mansions in foreign countries, far away from the "our Lagos".

Again, don't blame the west, let's blame ourselves!!!
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Donjazet2: 10:11am On Mar 29, 2023
The thing with half baked or conspiracy theories is that once you ask for further clarifications, the person devolves into incoherent ramblings or uses insults and abuses to mask their stupidity and ignorance on the issue to which they speak.

"Africans are mentally enslaved to the west".

Ask the purveyor of this statement to explain in detail what that sentence means and watch them babble incoherently.

How exactly are "Africans mentally enslaved to the west"??
Unless we're talking of our political leadership, which is still not true, because last I checked, the bulk of our foreign debt was now to Asia.

And more so there is nothing wrong in being in alliance with the western coalition. Our leaders just have to be smart. Former independent colonies have used their relationship with the west to grow their economies tremendously. South Korea, Japan, Singapore, India, Egypt, Australia, Canada. All formerly conquered by the west in one way or the other but have now grown tall.

We need to look more inwards and start pointing the finger at ourselves. Not even at our leaders but ourselves the masses.

After all, It is on this board that someone respected said "we'll vote for this person because HE IS OUR SON". All other metrics of leadership didn't matter, just being "our son" was the single most important factor for choosing our leaders.

When that decision proved fatal, rather than claw back, we doubled down for an even worse leader than the last, we now have enablers of the failed government providing cover for the failed leaders and supporting them, again, because he is "our son". America had nothing to do with this. We are doing it to ourselves. We've let tribal sentiment erode our sense of justice and truth. We've become blinded to the overall picture of our society.

Please let's stop blaming the west and look inward at ourselves. We are the architects of our modern problems.

Spy360:
Should any culture or its aspects be termed or qualified as good or bad?

We know that cultures are the ways of live of peoples. These ways were adopted based on their idea of what's good and necessary for their continued survival and even existence.

Culture is dynamic and transient. So that, those aspects as time progresses that does not ensure the ultimate goal of survival are ditched or adjusted.

So for example, animal sacrifices were required to appease gods for good agricultural productivity. Then with time, when manure was discovered, there was no longer the need to such sacrifices. So we cannot conclude that animal sacrifice was bad culture, because as at that time in reference it was good practice.

It is similar to the use of greenhouse fuels today, some day it will phase off but the future generations should not then consider our generation as barbaric.

Cc A001, Donjazet2, Bombblacks
Noo, there are indeed BAD and BARBARIC aspects of culture.

There is no way to rationalise or conceptualize the slaughtering of innocent twins for centuries out of ignorance.
Or murdering albino babies,

Or making a widow drink the dirty water that was used to bath her dead husband's dead corpse.
Or making sure a woman never ever achieves sexual satisfaction throughout her life.

These things were done out of gruesome ignorance, they had no positive addition to the culture at all but actively caused harm to all its victims.

And mind you, some of these practices are Still carried out to this day as we speak.

To know about African cultures, start from your immediate environment: the Ibo culture. That's an African culture.

What you want to learn on Nairaland is better learnt from your people at home.

When I was a Muslim years ago, I used to consider African cultures as evil and barbaric as taught by the book of lies from Arabia.

But when I got older and read many books of history, I broadened my scope, left religion, and realized I was wrong about our cultures.

Then, I moved closer to the pagans in my vicinity and Osun to learn the Yoruba culture from them. I still do so till now.
Good. Now can you tell us the positive aspects of your culture which is worthy of emulation?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Donjazet2: 9:34pm On Mar 27, 2023
A001:
There's nothing like African culture. All these frivolous discussions. SMH

Yoruba culture, Ibo culture, Ebira culture, Ijaw culture, Hausa culture, and thousands of other cultures in different parts of Africa are what's African cultures.

Each of those cultures has their good and bad sides, like all other cultures in the world.

As said earlier, cultures, like people, have their good and bad sides.

If you can't see the good sides of the Yorubas, your fellow Ibos, Ebiras, Ijaws, Swahilis, and other ethnic groups in Africa, I'm not the one to convince you.
Here we go again, around in circles!

It's good you've actually taken my point about Africa not being a monolith, I corrected you after you kept talking about "African culture". Good to know you've learnt something from me, the ignorant one.

Now could you answer the question about positive African culture you keep talking about. Be it Yoruba or Igbo. What are tr aspects of our culture you find worthy of emulation?

You said that African history is useless and has no value and that you no rate African cultures at all because they're backward and barbaric. Now, you don dey change mouth, lols
I really wish that rather than repeating this one million times, you actually get to correcting why you think those words are wrong.

Maybe I said something someway, you took it another way or maybe indeed I'm largely ignorant about African culture and think it's all barbaric, savage and it all belongs in the dark ages, how about you get to educating me on why you think that view is wrong, and not just condemning and condemning and condemning and condemning till eternity?

How about you set to making valid points that expose how my own points are wrong?

Let me guess, you're first sentence is about to be , "I don't have your time". cheesy

I don't have the time for that. There are many good aspects of the African cultures and many bad aspects as well.

They're visible to the blind and audible to the deaf.

To see the good sides of the African cultures, start from your immediate environment: the Ibo culture.

There are many kind and generous Ibo people. If you don't know this, I'm not the one to convince you.
Notice how you're yet to answer this question.

Maybe to make it easier, rather than hammering on about my "ibo brothers", how about you use your own Yoruba culture as a reference point and tell me the positive aspects of African culture that we should imbue and imbibe within ourselves.

Some of the kindest people I know on this forum are Ibos, Ebiras, and Ijaws. So when you say African cultures are barbaric and savage because of the bad sides, you should know you're just making a noise and being unreasonable.
Why do you keep supposing that I'm saying EVERY thing about African culture is "barbaric and savage" despite my best efforts in clarifying that stance.

A001, I'm not saying that everything about African culture is barbaric. I'm saying some, if not most are outdated.

Another mass shooting in the US. 18 dead. Killed by a citizen with very easy access to guns. AS USUAL!
Every country with it's unique problems. I'm sure an estate in Lagos or Abuja is far more peaceful and fulfilling than one in the burbs of Chicago. The inner cities where an average of 2 die everyday f4om senseless shooting.

Amoto94, maybe you could help here, but note, your view shouldn't be from your religion which is largely "unafrican" but from your culture.

A001:
Not interested in this discussion. If you can't see the positive sides of over 1.4 billion people in a region, then you need serious psychiatric help.

Cultures are the software of the mind, and all cultures have their good and bad sides. The answers you seek are all around you.

Start from your culture at home, unless all your people in that side are savage and barbaric.
cry cry
Come on man, you can do better than this. Not everything is quarrel, fight and abuses. Surely we can communicate maturely, man to man. It's not like we have an outstanding beef or something. We both championed the cause for a new Nigeria, so what's all these with your insults once you're engaged?

You can see I called you out because I want to hear what you have to say. Please let's be civil.

I appeal to you to see me as someone who is very very ignorant about African culture, maybe if you see me as so, it will help in making you educate me rather than insult me.

So I ask again, A001, can you point out the positive aspects of African culture which we must nuture and imbue within us and possibly export to the world?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Donjazet2: 8:51pm On Mar 27, 2023
Secondly you never gave me your answer on Ugandan anti-gay law or your perspective on gay people.

I'm particularly curious about your view on this because there is a woman like you I follow on twitter, her name is uju-anya. Just like you, she champions the supremacy of African culture, the difference between you two being that while you are Yoruba-centric, she is more igbo-centric. Note that she is also an atheist.

Here comes the caveat, this woman despite being a very vocal champion of "African culture" is an open homosexual. A lesbian with a married Nigerian female partner. A phenomenon which is looked upon as largely "unafrican". But this doesn't stop her from championing the African cause which is why I'm curious as to your views, seeing as you're also irreligious but largely afrocentric.
